- Great price.
What is in the name – what type is this
♦ At the Coleman site, they call this tent Signature Prairie Breeze 9 person tent but on Amazon the word ‘signature’ is omitted, so just to know that this is the same tent.
♦ This is a very typical cabin-type tent, so you have straightened and completely vertical walls. The good side of this is that you have lots of volume, the tent is truly livable and very tall, no less than 7 ft (213 cm) peak height, and you have a feeling of being at home. Though such a tall structure is not for strong winds.
♦ The Coleman Prairie Breeze is also a fully freestanding tent, so you can pitch it on any terrain, literally. But the tent comes with stakes and guylines so you can secure it completely.
♦ This is a typical summer camping tent, and you can realize this from its design with 6 huge windows, the minimal fly which covers only the ceiling, and the integrated fan (more about this below).
♦ The tent comes with a nylon divider that creates two 10 x 7 feet rooms. It attaches by 3 tabs on each of the walls and by 4 tabs on the ceiling.
Coleman Signature Prairie Breeze tent – who is it for
The floor area of 140 square feet (13.02 m²) is certainly big enough for 9 people sleeping on pads on the floor. But at the Coleman site, they write it is best suited for 7 people. You can increase livability by using bunk beds, there are great models available both for kids and for adults, and you can see them here. With such bunk cots you can have lots of space for 9 people.
But bear in mind that the tent has no vestibule or any other storage area, so it is best to downgrade it to 5 – 6 people if you camp with kids.
The packed size 40.5 x 14.5 x 8.5 inches (103 x 37 x 22 cm) and the weight 37.6 lb (17.06 kg) are such that you need a car for transportation. So you can use it for family camping, hunting, and any other summertime activity at places with a car access.
Fan and LED lighting
This is a bonus that comes with this tent, and you have the following:
- The system operates on 4D batteries or one CPX 6 cartridge.
- For the light alone you have 75 lumens on high with 195-hour runtime.
- For the fan alone you have 26-hour runtime on high; 34-hour runtime on low.
- For the light and fan combined: 75 lumens and 20-hour runtime on high; 75 lumens and 27-hour runtime on low.
This is why I have included it in my list of Best Lighted Tents. The fan has two speeds and two directions, with the air up or down. You have a switch on the wall so using the system is easy.
You have a switch on the wall, see it in the picture:
Other features & materials
The tent comes with a port for electrical cable. Note that you have one door only, this is not so great. But you have 5 separate windows plus a window on the door.
The poles and fabric
The 6 vertical poles are powder coated steel and the 6 roof poles are fiberglass. The tent material is nylon. The floor is with that they call WeatherTec System, with welded and inverted seams combined. Note that the floor is bathtub type.
The detachable fly is waterproof, but they do not provide any information about the rating. I would not expect more than 600 mm, this is typical for such summer tents. The same is with the side walls and the inner panels on the windows and on the door, they are waterproof but do not put this tent on a hard test.
Here is a video from a user of this tent, please have a look:
As long as this tent is used for summer camping, there is not much to object to it. You do not have any vestibule here, but this is a part of its design; a vestibule would obstruct the views through those great windows. As of the moment of writing this text, the price is a bargain for such a tent.

Final thoughts
In the conclusion of this Coleman Prairie Breeze 9 person tent review, I wish to stress again that this is a typical summertime family camping tent that offers lots of comfort. But bear in mind that its design is not for strong winds and a lot of rain, so better check some other tents here in the site if you plan to camp in such an environment.
For example, this giant Ozark Trail 10 person tent with screen room is a dome-style tent, more aerodynamic, and this reliable NTK Arizona GT 9 tent will definitely protect you in any weather conditions. But if you still want a cabin style, check this Coleman Tenaya Lake 8 tent which comes with a closet and check also their Hampton 9 tent which is very similar to the tent presented here.
Please see how I rate this tent against my standard set of criteria used for all the tents here in the site so you can easily compare:

I set this tent up mid May 2020 and lived in it till Nov 1, 2020. It was amazing! We had severe windstorms, which it made it through perfectly fine (although honestly I screwed the tent down to a platform, knowing I was using it long term). Perfectly waterproof. Love it! Only issue is the rainfly – after 1 full season I can see ‘pinholes’ in the fabric.
Awesome tent!

I need a new rainfly for a Coleman Signature 9 person Prairie Breeze tent. Do you have one?
JV says
Hi Walt, no I do not have them. It is best to follow the links in the text, they will take you to Amazon and there you can contact the seller. They might tell you more.
