What this is about
The Berghaus Air 8 Inflatable Tunnel Design 8 Person Family Tent has been on the market for many years already together with its several smaller cousins, in my separate text you can see the Berghaus Air 4 tent.
This is a tunnel-shaped construction with two doors and two separate solid windows. One of the doors is with a small brim supported by a loop so here you have a dry entry point. Both doors are double-layer type with an inner mesh layer for ventilation, so you have 2 extra windows on the doors as well.
There are also 4 inner doors with mesh sections on the upper portion, see below how they look. You can also see storage pouches on the inner wall between these two doors.
Below you can see one of the inner shutters on the solid windows. You can raise it to half the height and fix in place with toggles, or you can close it completely for privacy.
How many rooms?
It is best to look at the floor plan below to understand its structure. The gray areas on the two sides are its inner tents with bedrooms. The positions of the doors are also shown. The white area in the middle is the living room. Observe also how tall this tent is, you have a stand-up height in the biggest part of it.
Note that the inner tents are with dividers. So you can have maximum 5 rooms (4 separate sleeping units plus the living room), and this you can modify as it suits you by keeping or removing those dividers.
You can even remove one of the inner tents to have a much larger living room, or you can remove both inner tents and use only the shell for some family events in the garden.
The picture below shows one of the inner tents, the other is exactly the same. You can see how it is attached to the shell above, so removing it is easy.
Here you can see this inner tent with the divider in place:
Materials
This is mainly about the fabric because there are no solid poles here. The shell is a polyester with an impressive 6000 mm waterproof rating. I doubt you will ever need more.
The floor of the shell tent is a strong and fully sewn-in material, most likely polyethylene, they do not give the details. Note that the inner tents also have their separate floors so you have double protection from the ground.
Fly sheet and groundsheet are fully seam taped and these are fully fire retardant materials tested to the European EN 5912 safety standard.
The inner tents are a breathable polyester that allows condensation to pass through for freshness. These are darkened bedrooms to reduce early morning light.
Air beams: There are 5 of them, high-performance inflatable beams of superior quality and strength, with quick-release spring-loaded valves that deflate the poles at the touch of a button.
To pitch the tent you have a two-way stirrup pump with gauge included. One person can easily do the job in 10 minutes or so. Because of all this, the tent is included in my list of best inflatable tents.
This all comes in its wheeled carry bag shown in the picture above, it is equipped with adjustable buckles.
Other features
- Velcro cable loops.
- E-cable port.
- 4 Corner stake pegs and steel round-wire pegs.
- Adjustable pegging points.
- Numerous storage options below the windows, in the bedrooms, and on the wall between the inner doors, you have seen this in the pictures above. Not many tents on the market have them in such a number.
- Lantern hanging points in the living room and in the sleeping rooms. See the picture.
Ventilation
Ventilation in this tent is at its best. You have already seen about its mesh doors. There is a wide gap between the inner tents and the shell, this is for air circulation and to reduce condensation.
But this tent has many vents on the shell. The picture below shows 4 of them, there are more on the other sides.
In other words, the tent is with vents on all 4 sides. So you have:
- High vents above the windows (one is shown in the picture above).
- There are two vents on the narrows sides of the tent. The picture below shows that you have Velcro tabs there so you can close them if you feel cold:
- There are several low vents. So this all allows the air to circulate in all directions and up and down.

Who is this Berghaus Air 8 Inflatable Tent for
Regarding the area, the inner bedrooms are officially for 8 people. But the tent’s total floored space is 242 ft² (22.5 m²), and 9.9 square meters of this is the living room. This means 30.2 ft² (2.8 m²) per person in total.
Note also that the living room is fully protected and with a sealed floor, so if necessary it can accommodate 4 people more. All in all, this is a very generous space, and you have plenty of wall pouches for storage.
Regarding seasons & climate, you have seen how excellent ventilation in this tent is. This makes it suitable for summer camping. On the other hand, the openings can be closed and its windows are solid, so it can work well also in a cooler climate.
The tent is tall but its inflatable beams can never break under wind pressure so the tent should perform well even in windy places. I see it as a very good 3-season tent.
Regarding the weight, this is a heavy shelter that weighs 66.1 lb (30 kg). It is also quite bulky. But this is a large tent, and you also have a wheeled carry bag to move it short distances.
Regarding the price, the tent is expensive but a high quality, and it has been tried and tested in the past by many people. There are many sellers that offer this tent, you will have links below so check the prices and compare them.
