Alprang Camping Tent is a 6 person dome tent, freestanding and with a partial coverage fly, so this is a very affordable tent suitable for summer camping in mild weather conditions.
Key features & benefits
- Very good price.
- Easy setup.
- Good packed size.
- Freestanding tent.
- Electric cable port.
ALPRANG Camping Tent – what type is this
This is a very typical freestanding tent, so as soon as you pass the two poles through the sleeves and fix them in the four corners, the structure becomes self-supporting and you can move it around and rotate to find the best position in the camp. So there is no hub element here, the sleeves play the role in its freestanding structure. Even when you add the fly and fix it in the corners, the structure is still fully freestanding and you can move it.
But you have 13 pieces of steel stakes and 4 guylines, so stake the tent to the ground if this is possible and put your mind at rest, this will make it safe from any sudden wind.
The structure is a simple single-room dome with two X-shaped poles and it is relatively low and aerodynamic, as usual for such tents.
Who is it for
Sizewise, the tent is officially for 6 people. But its floor area is 90 ft² (8.4 m²), and this gives 15 ft² (1.4 m²) per person. Clearly, they have used the backpacking principle to determine the capacity of this tent. For a real camping this is far from enough, note that you have no vestibules to store your stuff. So think about this tent as a camping tool for 2 – 3 people only.
Yes, I know they claim you can fit 2 queen size beds inside (and you can indeed), but this can work only if you levitate in the air when you are cooking inside during the rain. Take a look at this Coleman Queen size bed, this is a great tool for a couple in such a tent; one bed of this type will still leave enough space around, and equally important under the bed.
But if this is about a summer open-air festival when the tent is only used by a group of friends to stay overnight, it will definitely serve the purpose and 5 – 6 people can squeeze inside sleeping on the pads.
Seasons-wise, it is officially a 3-season tent but I would not use it in very harsh weather conditions. Use it as a summer camping tent, for 1 – 1.5 season and you will be doing great with it.
Climate-wise, this is a tent for a mild environment. You have lots of mesh on the ceiling and this cannot be closed during the night. So this is great for a warmer environment but if you need something for a cold weather, better check one of these tents.
Note also that so much mesh which you have here is not the best option if you camp in an environment with lots of sand/dust in the air. You would do much better with an enclosed tent with solid windows and without mesh on the ceiling. So for such an environment you might want to check these Eurohike Rydal 600, Vango Omega 500XL, or Eurohike Buckingham Elite 6 tents.
Weight-wise, the tent is with 14 lb (6.4 kg) of weight and it packs to 28 x 7 x 7 inches (71 x 18 x 18 cm). So yes it is portable and no, I would not carry this tent in the backpack. This is a camping tool to be used at places with a car or motorbike access.
Materials & construction
You have 2 main poles plus one short pole for the front hood. This is fiberglass, so it is not particularly robust and needs a careful handling. But this works well in dome tents of this size.
The floor is polyethylene, and they did it very strong so you have 1000D here. This is a plastic material and fully waterproof. They did not provide any information about the fly and the walls, but it appears this is a polyester with a very high waterproof rating of 3000 mm. If this can be taken as a fact, this makes the tent highly waterproof. But again, bear in mind that the fly is not full coverage type. If you need a tent with a full coverage fly, please check this list.
Windows & the door
You have one door only and this is a double layer with mesh and panel, so you have a window on the door. Next to it is yet another window with the same double layer structure.
This is a very simple structure and one person can set this tent up in 5 – 6 minutes. All is intuitive and self-evident.
You have a hook at the apex where you can attach a lantern. There are 4 guylines, this does not look so much but you will not need more for such a tent and for summer camping. You also have an electric cable port here, and some very small pockets.
There is a floor vent on the back and you can see it below. This in combination with the mesh on the inner tent and the partial fly should work fine and you should not have issues with condensation. Note also that the front hood allows for keeping the window at least partly open even when it is raining so this will help and improve the air crossflow.

Good and less good features
Here is my short summary:
- Great price.
- Reasonable weight.
- Reasonable packed size.
- Very easy setup.
- Only one door.
- No vestibule.
- No full coverage fly.
- Too small for the declared capacity.
The absence of vestibules means that you have to keep all your stuff inside. The area is far to small for 6 people in any case.
The Amazon price for this tent at the moment of writing this text is only $81, so this is a really affordable option.
The tent is very new on the market, but it has already collected a huge number of reports, so on Amazon alone you have them more than 50 and the average rating is really impressive 4.8/5. With such a price, the popularity of this tent is not a surprise. See how I rate it:

In summary, this Alprang Camping Tent looks really cool, the structure is simple and the setup is easy. You can pitch this tent anywhere, it is fully freestanding. But ignore the declared capacity, you cannot use this tent for so many people. All in all, if you do not want to spend much and need a decent tent for occasional summer camping, this should be on your shortlist.
But if you need something different, just look around, this site is full of large tents, you will find something for you. For a dome style tent with a full coverage fly, check this Kelty Acadia 6 and also the Slumberjack Trail Tent 6. If you need a cabin type tent, please check this reliable ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek 6 and also the ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek Two-Room Tent. If the storage area is important, check this Eureka Boondocker Hotel 6 Tent.
