Eureka Desert Canyon 6 Person Tent is a brand new model they launched recently, a freestanding cabin style sturdy structure with a great packed size.
Key features & benefits
- Exceptionally tall and livable tent.
- Durable materials.
- Shelter pitch option.
- Removable Gear Caddy for off-the-ground storage.
What kind of tent is this
As you see from its shape, you have a cabin-style tent, very tall (no less than 218 cm peak height), with very steep walls, and with 6 people capacity. This height together with its huge windows and the large door gives you a home feeling in this tent.
This is a brand new model they launched recently, and you might want to know that there exists also a 4-person version available on the market.
The tent is freestanding and the fly attaches to the tents bottom structure through buckles, so you can rotate it and even move around once you set it up. But do not miss to stake it down to avoid problems in the case of a sudden wind, steel stakes are included in the package.
The structure is single-layer in the biggest part, only the mesh ceiling is covered by the rain fly.

Who is it for
Space-wise, this is a square structure with 100 square feet of the inner space, so this makes 16.7 ft² (1.55 m²) per person. Having no extra storage space (vestibules, porch) this is far from enough for real camping. They have used the backpacking principle for the declared tent capacity.
So in practice, I would not use it for more than 3 – 4 people. In such a case this is a really livable and comfortable camping tent.
Seasons-wise, the tent is formally a 3-season type, but if you check all its features and parameters you will see that it is best suited for summer camping and in very mild weather conditions. The length/height ratio here is 1.4 so such a boxy structure is not best suited for strong winds.
Construction & materials
The frame is steel here and the roof poles are fiberglass. You have sleeves for the roof poles, and at the corners you have plastic connectors, see the picture below. This is a tall structure and I have included it in my list of the very tall tents for camping.
You have an overhanging fly design, so although it is not full coverage, it protects the windows and the door, and you can keep at least their upper sections open even when it is raining. All the materials (the fly, the main body, and the floor) are a burly 75D 185T polyester taffeta. The ceiling and the mesh on the windows and on the door are built from a 68D polyester.
Both the fly and the tent’s main body are with a 1200 mm waterproof rating. This is a modest value but you do not need more for such a design. The floor is with an 1800 mm rating, so again quite reasonable. All seams are sealed.
Shelter pitch option
This implies that you can use the poles and the fly only to create a large and pleasant shade for picknicks. So this is a nice bonus with this tent.
This tent features also the removable Gear Caddy which adds some off-the-floor storage space and maximizes the available floor space.
You have only one door here, but it is really large and quite enough for this square structure. There are 4 small mesh pockets on the walls.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
This Eureka Desert Canyon 6 Person Tent is a very strong and stable structure, the setup is easy, and it packs well to its included carry bag. The weight is such that you will use it at places with a motorized access. It can accommodate the declared number of 6 users, but for real camping with all the stuff you need, it is best to downgrade this number drastically.
Note that there is yet another tent of the same capacity from this brand presented here, and you might want to compare them, so check this Eureka Copper Canyon 6. But if you want something bigger from the same brand please check this Eureka Copper Canyon 12. If you need something of the dome-style from the same brand, check this Eureka Midori 6 which offers full protection with its full-coverage fly.
