The Kelty Daydreamer 6P Tent is a simple and very tall dome type 3-season shelter with a dark rest design and with a large vestibule, and it offers full protection in any weather.
Key features & benefits
- Dome type tent.
- Full coverage fly.
- Dark rest design.
- Tall tent.
- One door.
- One vestibule.
- Fiberglass poles.
What is in the name
This Kelty Daydreamer tent may look similar to some other tents of this brand, you have them many presented here in the site, like the Kelty Discovery Element 6 Tent and the Kelty Wireless Tent 6 Person. But there are some interesting details here that make it different.
The tent is a simple dome supported with the usual x-crossed poles, but it has a full coverage fly that creates a large vestibule. Note that the vestibule flaps can be rolled to the sides to keep them out of way as shown in the picture below.
In this configuration the tent is more or less freestanding. But if you need the vestibule for storage, you have to stake the flaps as in the top picture above.
The tent has only one door, and I would say this is perfectly enough. On the rear side, the fly has a zipper which can be open as in the picture below.
With this you have a rear window, because the inner canopy is all mesh. They call it the Sunrise Window. This is a detail that makes it different from ordinary full-coverage fly tents.
Note also that the peak height is 77 inches (196 cm), so you have a stand-up height in the middle.
Dark rest design
You have seen the word Daydreamer in the official name of the tent. My guess is this is due to the fact that the underside of the fly is with a coating that makes the inner completely dark. From what I remember, this is the first true dark rest tent from this brand.
So when all is closed, you can sleep longer in the morning and also take a nap during the day without the usual glare. This is a very useful feature, and I have included it in my list of dark rest tents.
Materials
The poles: You have fiberglass poles here, they are quite thick with a 13 mm diameter.
The picture below shows that here too they use their Quick Corner design, and this includes corner pockets for poles.
Kelty is the first brand with this design introduced a few years back, but there are other brands using this now.
The fabric: The inner canopy is all No-See-Um mesh, but closer to the ground you have a 75-denier polyester with a 3000 mm waterproof rating. The same material is used for the floor.
But note that although the denier value of the fly is the same, its waterproof rating is very high 5000 mm. It is with what they call the Twilight Tech coating that gives the tent its mentioned dark rest inner.
They claim that the materials are PFAS-free and durably water repellent (DWR).
Note that the fly is with very useful guyline pockets, one shown below, so the ropes will not dangle around.
Other details
- Reflective guylines to avoid tripping at night.
- Shark Mouth carry bag for quick and easy pack up.
- White gear loft make it easier to find the important stuff.
- White wall pockets.
Ventilation
The tent’s canopy is all mesh so vapor can easily escape. To cope with condensation, they have added a small roof vent, the picture below.
In addition to this, on the two sides the fly has low guylines to stake it out (see the top two pictures above). This effectively creates two wide areas for air circulation from the ground. I would say that there is not much to object to the design regarding ventilation.

Who is the Kelty Daydreamer 6P Tent for
Regarding the area, the tent is officially for 6 people, and you have 89.2 ft² (8.3 m²) of the inner floored area.
This means 14.9 ft² (1.38 m²) per person so this is not much. But the dimensions are such that you can indeed put 6 pads on the floor.
The vestibule adds no less than 26.7 ft² (2.5 m²) of a covered and protected area to keep your shoes and gear.
In my view, this tent is perfect for parents with one or two small kids. The dark rest design comes good if the children have to sleep during the day.
Regarding seasons & climate, you have already seen about the impressive waterproof rating of this tent. So with its full fly, there is no doubt you will be protected in any rain situation.
The tent is tall, but the shape is aerodynamic, and it is fully closable, see the picture below. This is why it will behave well even in very windy places. So this is a true 3-season tent suitable for any weather situation.
Regarding the weight, it is not light, but I think this is not a big deal, it is designed to be a car camping tent.
The packed size is such that I would describe it as moderately compact. You can transport it even on a motorbike. It is perfect for a group taking part in an open-air festival or concert.
Regarding the price, I would say it is fair for such a good tent and the brand behind it. Please check the links below for updates.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
In summary, the Kelty Daydreamer 6P Tent stands out as a reliable and functional shelter for small families or groups looking for comfort and weather protection.
Its dark rest design is a major highlight, offering a restful environment for daytime naps and extended morning sleep.
The combination of a full-coverage fly, durable materials, and high waterproof ratings ensures excellent protection against rain and wind, making it a solid choice for three-season camping.
While the interior space might feel tight for six adults, the spacious vestibule compensates by providing additional storage for gear.
In terms of usability, the tent excels with features like the Quick Corner design for easy setup, ample ventilation, and smart storage solutions like the gear loft and pockets.
Its weight and packed size are well-suited for car camping or motorcycle trips, though portability for backpacking may be limited.
With a fair price point for its quality and features, the Daydreamer 6P offers a dependable option for campers who value comfort, weather protection, and the ability to enjoy restful sleep outdoors.
