The Naturehike Car Tail Tunnel Tent is a versatile two-layer car camping tent for year round use, designed to be used on its own and also attached to a vehicle.
Key features & benefits
- Tunnel type tent.
- Car-connectable.
- Huge porch.
- Three double-layer doors with awnings.
- Two translucent windows.
- Aluminum poles.
- Suitable for all seasons.
What is in the name
This tent is far more functional and versatile than what you might expect from its simple tunnel shaped structure, and this will become clear when you see all its features below.
Car attachment features
The word Tail in the name of this tent is most likely used to describe the fact that it is designed to be attached to a car as shown in the picture below. To use it that way, it comes with a removable car-connecting module.

To attach the tent to a vehicle, one of the two vestibules is made removable. Below you can see the tent with it removed and also the two sets of zippers, one for the vestibule and one for the partition/divider.
After that you can attach the car connecting element, see how this looks:

You then use the included 4 suction cups with straps, and attach them to the vehicle, and use the straps to connect to the tent.
In the picture below you can see the mentioned partition element on the left side under the car attachment porch. It completely closes the tent when you go away with your car. So this is a truly excellent design.

But as you realize from the picture above, it can be used on its own as a tunnel type tent with three loops for support. So this is an adaptable tent that serves dual purposes as both a tunnel tent and a car tail tent.
The tent is a true two-layer shelter, so you have a full-taffeta inner tent under the outer shelter. The picture below shows the inner tent with its two D-shaped huge doors. They are two-layer, with full-size mesh and taffeta layers.

The shell tent creates a large floorless room/porch, it is larger than the inner tent (the numbers below), and it offers full rain and wind protection. This is an area where you can use all camping equipment and cook without being worried about the floor.

Doors, awnings, and windows
The shell tent has three doors on three sides, and all of them allow for awning configuration which you can see in the picture below. Note that you have only one set of awning poles included.

With extended awnings you have much more covered area to sit in the shade. As the sun changes its position on the sky, you can change the siting post accordingly.
All three doors are double layer with full sized mesh and panels. So this is a really luxurious design. With this you have views around whenever the sky is clear while being protected from flying insects..
But they have also added two translucent windows, and those are also equipped with inner shutters for privacy.
Storage features
With such a large and fully covered and protected floorless room/porch, you have plenty of space for everything you use in the camp.
But they did not stop there, if you go back and see the inner tent, you will realize that they have added huge wall pouches to keep you smaller items off ground. They are on the sides of the inner door.
Elements in the package, setup, materials
The package includes:
- The shell tent, inner tent, removable car-connecting element, removable partition wall, bundling straps.
- 10 Guylines.
- 3 Aluminum alloy poles.
- 2 Aluminum alloy awning support poles.
- 4 Suction cups for car connection.
- 32 Stakes.
- Carry bag.
All the elements are shown in the picture.

Regarding setup, this is all what you can expect from a well-built tunnel tent. One person can do the job with ease. The most important steps are shown in the pictures below.
It is best to stake the tent on one side, and then add poles one by one. They are color-coded just to know. When all are in place, you stake the tent completely and put guylines in place to raise the structure from the ground.

The poles: You have three long and very thick shock corded poles, and this is a high quality aluminum alloy. One set of awning poles is also in the package (those are black in the elements picture above).
The fabric: The shell tent is made of a 150D polyester Oxford with silver coating and 2000 mm rating. So this is a very strong fabric for a tent.
The inner tent is a 63D 210T polyester, and this is again a solid material for an inner tent. Its floor is a 150D polyester Oxford with 3000 mm PU coating.
Ventilation
You have everything for optimal ventilation. Large mesh openings are on all four sides of the shell tent, even the removable partition wall panel is with mesh paired with flap. So you can create as much air circulation as you want.
The inner tent is attached to the shell, and there is a wide gap between the two, so air can circulate and this is great to fight condensation.
If you have to close everything, you have two roof vents. The inner tent is taffeta, but both doors are with huge mesh areas that are also closable. All in all, there is nothing to object here.

Who is the Naturehike Car Tail Tunnel Tent for
Regarding the area, the tent is officially for four people, and for this it offers around 77 ft² (7.16 m²), or 19.4 ft² (1.8 m²) per person, which is not bad.
But there is also the large living area/porch with its 97 ft² (9 m²), see the floor plan and the dimensions below. So the total covered area is 174 ft² (16.16 m²), and this is a true luxury. This is why I have added it to my list of best 4-person family camping tents.

Regarding seasons & climate, the describe it as a 4-season tent and I would agree with this. You have a true double-layer structure, with plenty of venting options when it is warm, and all closable when it is cold. The picture below shows how it looks when closed.

Waterproof rating is very good, so you have full rain protection. I have no doubt that this tent will perform well no matter where you use it.
Regarding the weight, with 44.1 lb (21 kg) the tent is heavy, but as a car camping tent this is not really a big deal.
The packed size is such that I would describe it as a bit bulky, the numbers below. But this is a large tent so the packed size is not a surprize.
Regarding the price, it is steep, so if you are on a budget you might want to look elsewhere. But check at their site for updates and possible discounts.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
In summary, the Naturehike Car Tail Tunnel Tent is one of the most thoughtfully designed hybrid shelters I’ve come across in years. It successfully combines the simplicity and storm-worthiness of a classic tunnel tent with genuine, practical car-connection capability, without forcing you to choose one mode over the other.
The removable vestibule + partition system is brilliantly executed. The three awning-capable doors and huge floorless porch give you living space that most dedicated car tents can only dream of. The true double-wall construction plus excellent ventilation make it a legitimate 4-season option.
Yes, it is heavy and the price is undeniably premium, but when you consider the build quality, the sheer amount of protected space (174 ft² total!), and the fact that you are essentially getting two tents in one (tunnel + tailgate annex), the value proposition becomes much clearer. This especially for families, overlanders, or anyone who frequently camps out of their vehicle.
If you want maximum comfort, panoramic views, real all-weather performance, and the flexibility to camp with or without your car, this Naturehike’s Car Tail Tunnel Tent is currently one of the very best options on the market.
Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all of them here in the site so that you can easily compare:

FAQ – Naturehike Car Tail Tunnel Tent
Can this tent really be used in all 4 seasons, including winter camping?
Yes, the Naturehike Car Tail Tunnel Tent is legitimately one of the better 4-season car-connectable options available. The full double-wall construction, 2000 mm fly + 3000 mm floor, robust aluminum poles, and the ability to completely close all mesh (including two roof vents that remain functional) give it solid cold-weather and storm performance.
Users in regions like Canada and northern Europe have successfully used it in snow and high winds when properly guyed out. The tunnel shape sheds snow well, and the large floorless porch acts as an excellent gear storage or cooking area that stays warm when the inner tent is sealed.
Will the car-connection module fit SUVs, minivans, and hatchbacks of different heights?
The included connection skirt has a generous height range (approximately 170–210 cm when using the suction cups and adjustable straps), which covers most hatchbacks, SUVs, crossovers, and minivans.
For very tall vehicles (full-size vans or lifted 4×4s), some owners add simple bungee extensions or use magnetic hooks instead of suction cups. The system is more forgiving than many dedicated tailgate tents because the skirt is soft fabric rather than a rigid frame.
How many people can actually sleep comfortably, and is it good for families with kids or dogs?
The inner tent officially sleeps 4 on pads, but in real-world use most reviewers find it ideal for 2 adults + 2–3 kids (or 2 adults + gear + dog). The 77 ft² inner area plus the huge 97 ft² covered porch creates a palace-like living space.
Families love it because kids and pets can play safely in the fully protected porch even in rain, and the three separate awning doors give multiple “rooms” and escape routes.
Is it difficult to set up alone, and how long does it take?
One person can pitch it in 10–15 minutes once familiar (many owners report 12 minutes on average). The color-coded aluminum poles and clear sleeve design make it straightforward.
First-time setup with the car-connection module might take 20–25 minutes while you figure out the suction-cup straps and partition, but after that it’s very repeatable. It’s noticeably easier than most large cabin tents of similar size.
