The Browning Echo 6-Person Tent is a very light and compact 3-season tent with a full coverage fly, 2 vestibules, and with quality aluminum poles.
Key features & benefits
- Aluminum poles.
- Full coverage fly.
- Ultra compact tent.
- Very light.
- 2 Doors & 2 vestibules.
- Fly vents.
Overview
This Browning Echo 6-Person Tent is the largest in their new series of three tents that also includes a 4-person and a 2-person version. The picture below shows how it looks without the fly so you realize this is a very simple dome tent and easy to use.
The tent is quite tall for a dome style structure, you have 6 ft (193 cm) peak height here. So this is a stand-up height in the center, but observe that the volume is limited as usual with dome-shaped canopies. In this setup without the fly, the tent is fully freestanding.
There are two doors here on the opposite sides, and they match the two vestibules created with its full-coverage fly. You can see below how the vestibule flap rolls to the side where you can attach it with toggles and have a free access to the tent. Because of these features, I have added it to my list of best full coverage tents.
Note that the fly must be staked out properly to have the vestibules functional, so this is why the tent is not freestanding in general.
Materials
The poles & stakes: You have two shock-corded 7000 series aluminum poles 11 mm in the diameter. Their attachment to the tent is visible in the picture below. There are grommets at the tent’s corners, and clips on the canopy. So this is all very easy to use. The package also includes 7075 aluminum stakes and guy ropes.
The fabric: The tent is built from a UV-resistant 75D 185T polyester. The fly is with 1500 mm waterproof rating and the same material bathtub floor offers 2000 mm rating. All seams are factory-sealed. You have extra large #8 zippers. This tent comes with bonus mesh storage pockets and a gear loft inside.
Ventilation
There are two large triangular mesh areas on the sides of the canopy, and the doors are also with mesh sections on their upper parts. There are no floor vents, it would be better with them but I do not think they are essential. But they have added two fly vents, they are visible in the pictures.
Who is this Echo 6-Person Tent for
Regarding the area, the tent is officially for 6 people. It offers 100 ft² (9.3 m²) of the inner floored area, plus 15 + 15 ft² (1.4 + 1.4 m²) under its two vestibules.
This means you have the inner area of 16.7 ft² (1.55 m²) per person, and the total covered area per person is 2 square meters. This is very good for a tent of such a weight and packed size.
Regarding seasons & climate, with such a full coverage fly and decent rating, plus its aluminum poles, you will be protected in any weather conditions. The tent is quite high but the profile is aerodynamic, so there is no doubt it will perform well even if you happen to camp in very windy places. This is a true 3-season tent, no doubt about this.
Regarding the weight, in view of its 13 lb 3 oz (6 kg), this is a very light tent, so light that I have added it to my list of best 6 person backpacking tents.
The packed size is also very good, it measures (L x D) 26 x 8.5 inches (66 x 22 cm). Such a tent you can transport even on a bicycle. So this is a versatile outdoor shelter which you can use both for family camping and for the trail assuming that users share the weight.
