Key features & benefits

  • Vertical walls.
  • Integrated pipe jack.
  • 3-Layer roof windows.
  • Great storage elements.
  • A-frame door.
  • Ventilated.

What is this Cabela’s Ultimate Alaknak 10’x10′ Outfitter Tent about

This tent is the smallest in the series of four Alaknak tents that have been on the market, tried and tested by many people.

This is a cabin type tent in the sense that it has completely vertical side walls, but it is with a central pole that makes it similar to a bell-shaped or a teepee tent. Because of that central pole, the peak height here is enormous 107.1 inches (272 cm). The walls are 44.1 inches (112 cm) high so you have a stand-up height only in the central area of the tent.

Integrated pipe jack – ready for a wood burning tent stove

This tent comes with an integrated pipe jack which you can see in the picture above. Here you can use pipes up to 5 inches in the diameter. When not in use, there is a storm flap to cover it, you can see it rolled below the pipe. The material around the pipe is heat-resistant so you do not have to worry about it.

This pipe opening on the roof is matched by a U-shaped zippered opening on the floor where you can place a wood burning tent stove, see how it looks:

If you do not use a stove inside, simply keep the opening zipped and you are safe from crawling insects.

The door & windows

The tent is a single room, single-layer, and single-door construction. Note that the door is framed, you have an A-shape support structure for the awning that provides a dry entry. The door is a double-layer type with a full size mesh and a separate panel.

There are three roof windows with the 3-layer design unique to this Alaknak series. This includes a zippered inner panel to reduce daylight, then you have a fixed mesh as the second layer, and on the outside you have a zippered translucent vinyl panel. This solid panel can be rolled up for extra ventilation, the picture shows its zipper on the three sides.

Materials

The fabric: You have an ultra-rugged 300D polyester oxford shell, not many tents can match this. It is with a PU coating, and the official waterproof rating is quite modest 1000 mm. But many people have reported that the tent  performed well in the rain. They manufacturer claims that the fabric is UV and fire resistant.

The floor is also a 300D polyester oxford but with a 5000 mm polyurethane coating. They say it is bathtub type but the side seams are very close to the ground.

The door is an inverted T-style construction with a mesh and a panel. The zippers are YKK, among the best you will find.

The poles & stakes: There are many poles here and the longest and thickest is the central pole. You also have the mentioned A-shaped door pole, this is a shock-corded set of several tubes. On the perimeter there are 10 poles, the picture below shows some details on one of them and how it is connected to the tent.

The package includes 26 steel stakes and 13 tie downs. Other features include 4 storage sets on the walls with a unique fold-down shelve, one is shown below, plus a large zip-close storage bag.

Ventilation

This Cabela’s Ultimate Alaknak 10’x10′ Outfitter Tent is almost perfectly ventilated. You have already seen its roof windows with mesh, plus its large mesh door. But when it is raining, you have to keep them closed and rely on vents.

So no worry, they have added three sidewall vents with hook ‘n’ loop closures for better ventilation. One is shown below, and you can see that it has a mesh against insects. There is also an inner zippered panel, so these vents are fully closable if you feel cold.

There are also several vents around the central pole on the highest point if the roof. One vent is above the door under the awning, see how it looks.

Who is it for

Regarding the area, you have 100 ft² (9.3 m²). This is enough for 6 people and I shall rate it as a 6-person tent. I think this is its official capacity, I may be wrong. But if you use a stove inside, it is best to limit the number of users to 3 maximum.

Regarding seasons & climate, this is a tent that will work fine in any season. You have already seen its features related to the heating. For the warmer part of the year you have plenty of ventilation options.

It has many side poles, however, this is a tall and boxy construction and I would avoid very windy situations.

Regarding the weight, this is not its best feature, the tent weighs 60 lb (27.2 kg).

Regarding the price, it is a bit steep, but this is a well-built tent and it should serve you for years. You will see it in the links below.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

So this Cabela’s Ultimate Alaknak 10’x10′ Outfitter Tent comes with some features that are unique to this series. They include those 3-layer roof windows, 3-layer side vents, and also the wall storage elements. I would say that the overall shape is also unique.

These tents have been on the market for a number of years so you know what you are buying. Fully recommended.

This tent does not come with the stove. It is just ready for stove. So you can order the stove from some other seller. There are many of them presented here in the site, just follow the link.
