The Eureka Jade Canyon X 6 Person Tent is a very tall and pleasant cabin type family camping tent supported with steel and aluminum poles, with four large windows, one door, and a high waterproof rating.
Key features & benefits
- Cabin type tent.
- Overhanging roof design.
- Very tall.
- Steel & aluminum poles.
- Good waterproof rating.
What this is about
There has been a Jade Canyon series from Eureka on the market for a number of years already, but the tent presented here is from its latest update. These new tents are with the letter X in the name.
The tent presented here is the larger in the series of two tents, they also have a smaller 4-person version with the same features. This is a very typical cabin type tent with what they call the CabinMAX architecture. They write that this offers 30% more livable space than typical cabin tent designs.
So what you see here are very steep walls and straight side leg poles. But one nice detail sets it apart from its competitors, and you can see it in the picture below that shows the tent without the fly.
There are those four short poles in the corners that are added to make the fly overhanging. You can see in the pictures below how this works. As you see, the windows are partly under the roof so you can keep them open in a light rain. This design is from their previous Desert Canyon series that has been discontinued.
They have added an extra pole to create a brim above the door, visible above, so the door is also partly protected and you have a dry entry point.
There are 4 large windows on all sides, they are with mesh and with panels from inside, you can see this in the picture below. There is one detail here which is definitely not improvement as compared with their previous Jade tents.
Namely, the mentioned windows’ panels are without zippers. It is hard to understand what they were thinking. The same design is in their new Eureka Copper Canyon LX 12 Tent and in Eureka Copper Canyon LX 6 Person Tent.
There is also a lantern hanging hook on the ceiling, and you have several wall pouches, one is shown above. Other details include an E-cable port, and small pouches for guylines, see the pictures below.
Note also that the tent is very tall, the peak height here is 84 inches (213 cm). So you have a stand-up height everywhere in the tent. With its large windows and such a height, the tent is very pleasant and livable.
Materials
The poles: You have a really great combination of steel used for the legs and aluminum used for the roof. This combination is rare in such cabin type tents. The legs are with a 19 mm diameter and the roof poles are 16 mm diameter, so all of them are surprisingly thick and strong.
You have a full set of steel stakes and guylines included. This all fits nicely in the included carry bag.
The fabric: The inner body fabric is a 68D 190T polyester taffeta with a 2000 mm rating. The fly is a 75D 190T polyester taffeta with the same rating, and mesh sections are a 40D polyester no-see-um. The floor is a 75D 190T polyester taffeta with a 3000 mm rating.
So these are strong materials, except for the floor where one would expect a higher denier value. The fly is a partial coverage type and it attaches to the frame in the corners. This makes the tent truly freestanding.
Ventilation
The tent has plenty of mesh, and the fly is with a brim above the door so vapor can escape. There are no floor vents here. The tent would be better with them.
But you have seen the inner panels on windows, you cannot close them in any case so this should compensate for the absence of floor vents. Perhaps this could be the only positive side of this strange design.
Please see more in this video, it shows the 4-person tent which is smaller of course:
Who is it for
Regarding the area, the tent is officially for 6 people and it offers 100 ft² (9.3 m²) of the floor area. This would make 16.66 ft² (1.55 m²) per person. So this is not a camping castle and it is best to downgrade it to 4 people maximum.
Regarding seasons & climate, the tent is very pleasant and it looks cool. Its waterproof rating is very good as well.
But in view of its boxy shape and its height, plus the strange panels design on the windows, I see it best suited for summer camping and it is best to avoid windy places and strong rain.
Regarding the weight, this is a heavy item with its 24 lb 1.6 oz (10.9 kg), but indeed the frame is strong and reliable. The packed size is (L x D) 29 x 10 inches (74 x 25 cm), so this is for car camping only.
Regarding the price, it is steep, but you have quality materials here, plus a brand that has been around since 19th century so you know what you are buying.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
In summary, this Eureka Jade Canyon X 6 Person Tent is well built and you have quality materials. In particular the frame is a good steel/aluminum combination and it is very strong.
The tent has a high waterproof rating and some rare features. In fact, they have mixed features from their previous Jade Canyon series and Desert Canyon series, both have been discontinued. So now you have this new Jade Canyon X series instead.
The windows are large and pleasant so you have views on all the sides, but their toggled panels are not the best detail here.
Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all of them here in the site so that you can easily compare:
