Last Modified: 10/10/2025

The Ozark Trail 8P Tent with Screenporch is a very large freestanding cabin type tent with a strong frame, great windows, and airconditioning ports.

Key features & benefits

  • Cabin type tent.
  • Freestanding.
  • One floored and one screened floorless room/porch.
  • 6+2 Windows.
  • 3 AC vents.

What is in the name

This Ozark Trail 8P Tent with Screenporch is a completely freestanding framed and cabin type tent. All this should be obvious from the picture below that shows it without the fly. As you realize the frame is very strong and supported with 8 vertical legs, in addition to all roof polles.

The walls are nearly vertical so it offers lots of volume, with a peak height of 84 inches (213 cm) and a stand-up height practically everywhere.

The fly is minimal, so it covers only the ceiling, and it attaches to the leg poles. But because if this, you have views around on three sides of the tent.

Rooms

The official name includes the word screenporch, but it is more than that. The height here is the same as in the rest of the tent, and the walls are fully closable. But there is no floor, and I would describe it as a floorless room rather than a porch.

The inner room is behind and it is fully floored, below you can see how it looks:

Windows and doors

The rear room has four external mesh windows equipped with inner zippered panels and with external storm flaps (shown below). This is an excellent design, when it is cold you can close everything, and you can keep them with mesh even when it rains.

The wall between the rear and front room is also with mesh windows and an inner door.

The front room has two large double layer windows on the sides, plus two integrated into the single front door which is equipped with a central inverted-T shaped zipper.

Materials

The poles: You have steel poles here, many of them, and this is reflected in the weight of the tent. They are shock-corded and color coded for easier setup. The frame itself is freestanding and the tent attaches to it. One person can set the tent up in less than half an hour.

The fabric: Unfortunately they do not provide any information. I guess the fabric is the same as in ther other Ozark Trail 10-Person Appalachian Tent 4 Season with Stove Outlet, and this means a durable polyester with a 1200 mm PU coating.

All seams are sealed, and users describe the tent as fully waterproof. The stitching is strong, and it looks really properly done.

The floor is a bath-tub style and it is made of a much thicker material, but there is no info about it provided by the brand.

Ventilation

The tent has huge mesh areas on the ceiling, plus 8 external and two internal windows. So cross flow and air circulation is guarantted.

But they have added three floor vents, one shown below, and you can use them as they are, for vertical air circulation.

But these vents are designed so that you can place airconditioning devices and use for extra ventilation and cooling. This is a great design, there are no many tents on the market with such a feature.

Who is the Ozark Trail 8P Tent with Screenporch for

Regarding the area, the tent is officially for 8 people and this means you can place 8 pads on the floor. The floor dimensions are such that you have 120 ft² (11.2 m²), and per person this would mean 15 ft² (1.39 m²). As usual, it is best to ignore this and downgrade it to half the number.

But indeed, there is the front room for gear and camping furniture with 40 ft² (3.7 m²), so here you can cook and use the area as a sitting space. This is why it is added to my list of best tents for 8 people.

Regarding seasons & climate, the tent is a true 3-season shelter. In a cooler environment you can close its windows and doors, and in a warm climate you have plenty options for ventilation and for airconditioning.

The frame is exceptionally strong so the tent will perform well in almost any weather conditions in spite of its boxy shape and height.

Regarding the weight, this is a very heavy tent weighing no less than 74.65 lb (33.9 kg). But it comes with a carrying case equipped with 2 wheels and a strap handle to move it short distances.

The bottom of the carry case is a hard plastic. Inside, you have 2 bags, one with the tent and small hardware and one with the poles.

The packed size is not the best feature of the tent, it is bulky when packed so make sure you have enough space in the car.

Regarding the price, I would say it is fair for what you have here, this is a well-designed and quality tent. Please follow the link updates.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

In summary, the Ozark Trail 8P Tent with Screenporch stands out as a robust and versatile 3-season shelter, ideal for family camping or group outings.

Its freestanding cabin design, generous 120 ft² floored area, and 40 ft² floorless front room provide ample space for sleeping, gear storage, and communal activities.

The tent’s thoughtful features, like six large windows, three AC vents, and extensive mesh for ventilation, ensure comfort in varied climates.

Despite its heavy 74.65 lb weight and bulky packed size, the sturdy steel frame, sealed seams, and bathtub-style floor deliver reliable protection and durability, making it a solid choice for campers prioritizing space and functionality. However, the tent’s weight and bulk may deter those seeking portability, requiring ample car space for transport.

Its 8-person capacity is optimistic, better suited for 4-6 people to ensure comfort. The fair price, wheeled carrying case, and high-quality construction offset these drawbacks, offering good value for a feature-rich tent.

For campers who value a spacious, well-ventilated shelter with unique additions like AC ports, the Ozark Trail 8P Tent with Screenporch is a dependable option, earning its place among top cabin-style tents.

FAQ

How durable is the Ozark Trail 8P Tent with Screenporch for frequent camping?

The Ozark Trail 8P Tent with Screenporch is built with a sturdy steel frame and durable polyester fabric, likely with a 1200 mm PU coating, based on similar Ozark Trail models. The sealed seams and bathtub-style floor enhance its waterproofing, making it reliable for frequent use in various weather conditions.

User reviews from outdoor communities, such as Reddit’s camping forums, praise its resilience in moderate wind and rain, though it’s not designed for extreme weather like heavy snow. With proper care, such as drying it thoroughly before storage to prevent mold, this tent can withstand regular camping trips over multiple seasons.

Can the screenporch be used for cooking safely?

The floorless front room, referred to as a screenporch, is suitable for cooking with portable camping stoves, provided proper precautions are taken. Its high ceiling and large mesh windows allow excellent ventilation, reducing the risk of carbon monoxide buildup.

However, as with any tent, open flames should be avoided, and electric or butane stoves are safer options. Based on general camping safety guidelines from sources like the National Park Service, ensure the cooking area is well-ventilated, keep flammable items away, and never leave the stove unattended to maintain safety.

How easy is it to set up the Ozark Trail 8P Tent for beginners?

The freestanding design simplifies setup, as the tent doesn’t require staking to stand upright, which is ideal for novice campers. The steel poles are color-coded for straightforward assembly, and user feedback on retail sites like Walmart indicates that two people can set it up in about 20-30 minutes.

However, its weight and the number of poles may feel cumbersome for solo campers. Watching setup tutorials on YouTube for similar Ozark Trail tents can help beginners understand the process, ensuring a smoother experience at the campsite.

Does the tent support privacy for group camping?

The tent’s design includes a fully closable front room and a rear floored room with zippered panels on all windows, providing decent privacy for group camping. The inner wall with mesh windows and a door separates the two rooms, allowing for distinct sleeping and communal areas.

For added privacy, campers can hang tarps or blankets within the tent, a common tip shared on camping blogs like OutdoorGearLab. While not as private as multi-room tents with solid dividers, the closable windows and doors offer sufficient seclusion for families or small groups.
