There are many Vango tents presented here in the site, and this is one of the best family camping tents brands. I sometimes receive questions about the fabric used and its waterproof rating. So I thought it would be good to have such texts for reference, and this is the first of them, there will be more.

ProTex 70.SRN

They describe it as one of their strongest fabrics used for flysheets. This is a high-quality Korean nylon 6.6 with greater strength and wear resistance than standard nylon. It is combined with a ripstop weave for ultimate strength and durability. Seams are always fully taped, siliconized and PU-backed. They use it in the Vango F10 Project Hydrogen tent.

Here are the rest of the features:

  • Fire retardant meets ISO5912 standards.
  • 5000 mm HH.
  • Retains color in extended UV exposure.
  • 70D Nylon 6.6 fabric. This explains the number 70 in the name.

ProTex 15 SRN

They describe it as one of their lightest flysheet constructions, but it is also among their most durable. The number 15 means 15D fabric, and this is high-quality ripstop nylon. They use what they call the ColourLokTM technology for high performance. You have this fabric in their Helium and Xenon tents series.

Here are the features:

  • 15D Nylon.
  • Fully factory taped seams.
  • Fire retardant meets ISO5912 standards.
  • 3000 mm HH.
  • PU coating.
  • Siliconized water repellent.
  • High-quality Korean dye retains color in extended UV exposure.

ProTex Haven

They use this fabric in their Vango Omega tents and in Vango Galaxy 300 tent shown in the picture. So here you have the waterproof rating that is among the highest among the trekking tents, you have 5000 mm. Other features include:

  • Fully taped seams.
  • 70D polyester fabric that is lightweight and strong.
  • Fire retardant meets ISO5912 standards.

ProTex RS

This fabric is used in many of their tents, and these include Vango Tempest, Mirage, Pulsar, Cairngorm, Halo, etc. It is lightweight and extra strong, built to protect you from the harshest outdoor environments.

This is a 70D polyester with the added ripstop weave. You have fully factory taped seams for complete protection and peace of mind, and the waterproof rating is 5000 mm. Its fire retardant meets ISO5912 standards.

Protex Shield

This fabric they use in their Carron tents series, and in Krugger 300 and Kibale 350 tent shown in the top picture above. So this is again a highly waterproof polyester 70D material with a 3000 mm HH, durable and strong.

As usual, you have full factory taped seams for complete peace of mind. Fire retardant meets ISO5912 standards.

So, these are all the types of the Vango ProTex Fabric currently used in their smaller and technical-type tents. This material you can see also in their Apollo 500 tent presented here in the site. As you realize, the waterproof rating is very high, in the range 3000 – 5000 mm, and some of these tents are with a durable 70D fabric. But they have more of this stuff, so read my text about Vango Sentinel fabric types.

My first tent was the one I used with my wife when we went on our honeymoon. In fact, you can see it in About page here in the site. Read More…
