Coleman 10×10 Instant Screen House Review

Last Modified: 12/03/2023

This Coleman 10×10 Instant Screen House Review is about a beautifully designed and incredibly popular structure with a 60-seconds setup, and with full protection against flying insects.

Key feature & benefits

  • Instant setup.
  • Pre-attached frame.
  • Two zippered doors.
  • Full protection from flying insects.
  • Stand-up height.
  • Great price.
  • Freestanding.

What is in the name

This item has been on the market for many years and it is one of the most popular among the screen houses. You will see it at some sellers under the name Coleman 10’x10′ Slant Leg Instant Canopy Screen House.

The word ‘instant’ in the name describes the fact that the frame is pre-attached to the tent and it remains so all the time. This makes setup easy and quick, one person can make it ready in under one minute.

You have telescopic poles here so this is both good and bad. The good is that setting the structure up is easy, you simply extend the four legs poles as shown in the picture below. The bad is that, as usual with instant tents, the packed size is not so great, this item remains a bit long when packed.

The words ‘screen house’ means that you do not have the usual walls. So the sides are all mesh and the only taffeta is on the roof. This is a structure designed to protect you from annoying flies and mosquitoes in the camp or anywhere outdoors.

This Coleman Instant Screenhouse 10×10 is very tall with a peak height of 7 feet (213 cm). You have two doors on opposite sides. This is a fully freestanding construction but you have some pegs (8-10) included to secure it against winds. The structure is without a floor, I have seen some people asking about this.

Who is it for

Regarding the size, the floor area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²) so this is quite enough space to put almost any camping table inside and to accommodate up to 4 people. Note that the walls are not very steep so the volume is decreased at the shoulder height but this is still a nice space and the structure looks well-proportioned and stable.

Regarding the purpose, you can use this screen house anywhere outdoors. It is designed to protect you from flying insects, no more no less.

The roof is rather small so do not expect lots of shade. It is best to use it under some trees. But you might want to compare this with some other screen houses that offer more protection from elements.

This is a very useful item to have in the camp and use as a dining room or as your camping kitchen area next to the tent. You can use it also simply for sitting and you will not be disturbed by insects. The picture below shows how you should not use it.

Regarding the weight, with its 19.84 lb (9 kg) this is a heavy item and you are not supposed to carry it anywhere. It is for places with a car access only.

Regarding weather protection, do not expect much, this is just a screen and not a tent. The roof is there to offer a bit of shade and not protection from the rain.

Materials

There is not much here, this is just mesh and a bit of 60D polyester taffeta on the roof. As mentioned above it is not waterproof, it is not meant to be. The frame is steel, sturdy and strong, just as it should be.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

So you have seen it, this Coleman 10×10 Instant Screen House looks cool, it is incredibly easy to use and you can set it up anywhere in almost no time. But it is a bit long when packed and heavy, so you need a car to move it around.

It has been around for many years, tried and tested by many users, and everything is known about it. The price is more than fair for such a great product. Fully recommended.

My first tent was the one I used with my wife when we went on our honeymoon. In fact, you can see it in About page here in the site. Read More…
