Key features & benefits

  • Pre-attached frame.
  • Cabin type.
  • Very tall.
  • 6+2 Windows.
  • 1 Door.
  • Great ventilation.

Overview

This tent is at the site of the brand under the name Bushnell Preserve Series 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent. So as the name suggests, it is an instant setup tent, but it should not be mixed with the tents from their Shield series which are also instant and they have a 6-person tent as well.

This is how it looks without the fly.
This is how it looks without the fly.

The picture shows the Bushnell Instant Pop-Up 6-Person Tent without the fly so you can see its ceiling which is all mesh. The corners are almost completely vertical, but the side walls expand out, so you have plenty of volume inside.

This together with its enormous height makes it very pleasant. You have a stand up height everywhere, the peak height is no less than 94 inches (239 cm).

Instant setup

Here you have the words Instant Pop-Up used in the name by some sellers, and the meaning is that the frame is pre-attached on three sides and on the roof. There you have integrated X-crossed poles that remain fixed to the tent all the time.

So when you unfold the tent, you pull out those orange loops on the side walls and the tent will expand outside. After that you push the roof from inside and it will pop-up. Note that the tent is very tall, so it may be best to pull up the roof first as shown in the picture.

But there are a few extra poles to add around the door, and there is also one pole used for the small awning above the door.

Windows and the door

This tent has one door, and it is full height and huge. There are 6 separate windows plus two on the door. All of them are double-layer, with mesh and with zippered panels. The picture below shows how it looks with views around.

Other details

The tent is fully freestanding, and this is even when the fly is on. So you can set it up anywhere, and you can move and rotate it in the camp to position as it suits you. But there are stakes and guylines included, so never miss securing it properly.

You also have an E-cable port to use a cable if you are in a camp with power available, see the picture. There are several storage pouches in a storage set on the wall.

Materials

The poles: You have fiberglass used in those side and roof panels, and the same material is in the awning pole and the pole above the door. The two legs poles at the sides of the door are steel.

The fabric: They use the same fabric for the whole Preserve series, so this is a very durable 210D polyester used for the walls and 300D used for the floor. The waterproof rating is 2000 mm, more than enough.

Ventilation

You have already seen those 8 mesh windows plus the ceiling which is all mesh. So as long as you can keep at least some of these windows open, you can have plenty of cross flow and air circulation.

But in the case of rain, all these openings must be closed. The minimal awning above the door protects nothing, it is quite useless, so you have to keep even those two windows on the door closed.

But no worry, they have added several large floor vents, see one below. This will allow for fresh air coming from the ground.

In addition to this, the fly is minimal, it only protects the mesh ceiling. To allow vapor escaping easily, they have added a few stiffeners that raise the fly and create what looks like standard roof vents, one shown below. All in all, ventilation is perfect here, there is nothing to object.

Who is it for

Regarding the area, the tent is officially for 6 people, and it offers 138 ft² (12.8 m²). This makes 23 ft² (2.1 m²) per person, so this is a generous space.

Regarding seasons & climate, the tent is nicely ventilated as you have seen above, and this makes it perfect for warm weather camping. But all the windows are closable, the picture below shows how they looks from inside when closed.

The waterproof rating is very good and all those seams are sealed. So there is no doubt you will be protected in any weather conditions. But the tent is very boxy and tall, and this is why it is best to avoid very windy conditions. All in all, this is a very good 3-season tent.

Regarding the weight, this is very heavy with its 37.8 lb (17.1 kg). But it is large and tall, and all those zippers on the windows add weight.

The packed size is a far from great, the tent is enormously long when packed. Its dimensions are 74 x 10.1 x 8.5 inches (188 x 26 x 22 cm), so be ready for this.

Regarding the price, all tents from this Preserve Series are expensive, but they are worth it.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

In summary, this Bushnell Instant Pop-Up 6-Person Tent is enormously pleasant and it looks great. The height is simply impressive and the same holds for its 8 windows.

The tent is nicely ventilated and it is suitable for 3-season camping. But do bear in mind its packed size and weight, this tent needs lots of space in the vehicle, it is very long.

I have included it in my list of very tall camping tents and also in the list of best 6 person instant tents for camping.

Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all of them here in the site so that you can easily compare:
