What this is about

This Naturehike Ranch Hot Tent with Stove Jack is a teepee (tipi) tent of a particular type. So you have a true double layer structure with an inner tent under its shell. The picture below shows its inner space:

The inner tent is fully floored and sealed as you realize from the picture above. The area in front of it looks like a floorless room. Below you can see how the floor plan looks, and some important dimensions.

As you realize, the tent is very tall, as usual for tipi tents. But note that the roof is angled so the volume is far less great. In view of its type, the tent is not freestanding and it is supported with a single but massive central pole. The main steps in its setup are shown in the picture:

Ready for a wood burning stove

The tent comes with an integrated stove jack, you can see it in the pictures. It is in the area above the front room, so this is the area where you can place a wood burning tent stove and heat the tent.

Because of these features, I have included this tent in my list of best tents with a stove jack.

The doors & awnings

The inner tent is with two doors, and those are matched with the doors on the shell. Note that the package includes no less than 4 awning poles, so you can create two separate awnings.

With this you can extend your living area during the day as long as the sky is clear. This is a remarkable bonus, you will not find many tents on the market with something like that.

The picture above shows one way of using the awning, so that you have more wind and sun protection from the sides. But the picture below shows how you can extend its side flaps for more shade when needed. Observe that you have plenty of head room under the awning, even if you are a tall person; the awning poles are 2 meters tall.

Materials

All the elements in the package are shown in the picture, together with the included carry bag: 

The poles: All of them are a thick aluminum alloy, see the picture above. The tent pole is 2.8 m long and its diameter is 33 mm. The awning poles are 2 m long and with 22 mm diameter.

The fabric: They write that the shell is a 150D encrypted oxford. The word encrypted means that the fabric density is better than in standard fabric. They also write its waterproof index is 2000-3000 mm, and this is more than you will ever need. Note that on Amazon they write it is 4000 mm.

They claim that they use a silver coating for sun protection, and apparently this reduces the damage of UV-A/UV-B to the skin. In addition, they write it has already been tested for UV protection, UPF50+, so this is the highest rate you can expect. This means it will block more than 98% of sun’s rays.

Ventilation

The inner tent is all mesh so vapor can easily escape. But they have added 4 vents on the top of the shell tent, you can see some in the pictures. So you should have enough vertical air flow for ventilation even when the external flaps are closed.

Who is it for

Regarding the area, the tent is an octagon at base, and each of its 8 sides is 2 meters long. They write that the area is 19.3 square meters (208 ft²), so this is huge. 

Around 12 square meters are the inner floored area, and this means 2 square meters per person in view of its official 6-person capacity. So this is a lot, but again, bear in mind the angled roof.

The rest is in the front floorless room where you would keep a stove. If you are without the stove, this is more than 7 square meters for sitting and for storage. All in all, this is a true castle.

Regarding seasons & climate, you have seen in the official name the words Hot Tent used. So if you need a tent for cold weather camping, this is it. But this holds only if you plan to heat it with a stove. You have a pipe jack already, so just add a stove and you can heat this tent.

The inner tent is just a mesh, so without a stove, it would be cold inside if you use it on its own. In this case it is not for winter use.

But you can use it also in any other season. It is ventilated and those awnings will come good if you use the tent for summer camping. So it can be described as a 4-season tent.

Note that you have plenty of stakes and ropes to secure the tent to the ground, so it will be fine even in windy places.

Regarding the weight, the tent weighs 27.1 lb (12.3 kg) and this may look a lot. But see its features like the height and the area, so the weight is justified.

The packed size is also reasonable for its overall dimensions, you have the numbers below. 

Regarding the price, I would say it is a bit steep but justified for the quality and craftmanship of this tent.
