The CORE Instant Cabin Tent 6 Person is an easy to use ventilated freestanding summer camping tent with great windows and an interesting overhanging fly design.

What this is about

This is a tent from a new Core Performance series that includes tents for 4, 6, 8, and 10 people, all built in the same style. So this is a very typical cabin-type structure with straight walls. It is pleasant with its large windows and it is also fully freestanding.

As the name suggests, this is an instant tent so all the elements are pre-attached, only the fly you have to add extra. The official setup time is 60 seconds only. The picture below shows how the tent looks without the fly. The leg poles are telescopic, so this is all easy to use.

There is only one door here, and it is with two zippered windows. Two separate windows are on the sides. The inner rear wall is a space where you can attach the large organizer shown in the picture below.

Materials

The poles: The frame includes straight steel tubes. One particular detail here are those short poles in the corners that separate the fly from the tent, and with this you have partly protected windows. One is shown in the picture below, note that these poles are also pre-attached.

The same feature is available also in the Eureka Jade Canyon X 6 Person Tent so this is not a unique design but it is rare and interesting.

You also get 10 stakes that are 7 inches (18 cm) long, so this is enough to properly secure the tent.

The fabric: The fabric is a very durable 150D polyester, and on the floor it is 210D. The official waterproof rating is 1200 mm, this may not look much but you do not need more. This is what they call the H20 Block Technology.

The tent comes with large and snag-resistant premium zippers. You also have an E-cable port integrated.

Ventilation

The tent’s ceiling is all mesh, you can see it in the picture without fly. The two side windows plus two on the door are all with mesh and you can have as much air flow as you want. They are partly under the overhanging fly so you can keep them partly open even when it rains. 

But there is a large rear vent which will be needed if you have to keep the windows closed. This works together with the Extended Eave Technology that positions the rainfly further away from the mesh ceiling. So hot air has plenty of ways to escape. This is all properly done, there is not much one could object here.

Who is it for

Regarding the area, the tent is apparently for 6 people and for this it offers 90 ft² (8.3 m²). This would mean 15 ft² (1.4 m²) per person, so not a castle really. I see it best suited for a couple, or for parents with one kid.

But its dimensions are such that it is possible to put 6 sleeping pads on the floor.

Regarding seasons & climate, the tent is designed with that cool overhanging fly which is not for windy places. So this is a summer camping tent for calm weather.

But note that its windows are with zippers so this is all closable except for the ceiling of course, and this makes it better than the mentioned Eureka Jade Canyon X 6 Person Tent where the windows are just with toggles.

Regarding the weight, this is a heavy tent with its 25 lb (11.3 kg). But this is normal with instant tents, because of those telescopic poles that imply some overlapping segments. You have also seen that the fabric is quite durable, and this adds weight.

The packed size is as expected for an instant tent, the carry bag shown below is long. This is again related to its instant setup design.

Regarding the price, it is quite steep. But this is a very good tent and from a respectable outdoor brand that is specialized in such family camping tents, so you know what you are buying.
