This Eureka Copper Canyon 12 Tent review is about a freestanding family camping tent with 2 doors and 2 rooms, a very livable and comfortable structure.
Key features & benefits
- Cabin style tent.
- 2 doors & 2 rooms.
- 6 windows in total.
- Electric cable port.
- Great packed size.
- 2 gear lofts.
What type tent is this
The Copper Canyon 12 is the largest tent in this very popular series from Eureka, and this is a cabin style freestanding tent. This means it is very tall, so indeed it is 7 ft (213 cm) at the highest point, and this feature is the same for all the tents from this series, see for example the smaller tent Copper Canyon 6 from the same series.
This is a camping tent, quite heavy, and it is for summer camping in very moderate weather conditions. So do not use it in very harsh situations and you will enjoy its features.
As you realize from the picture, the structure looks very stable and sturdy with its 6 thick main poles/legs. Note that I have included this tent in my list of best 12 person camping tents.
Who is it for
Sizewise, the floor area of 168 ft² (15.6 m²) is such that it can accommodate the declared number of 12 people sleeping on the floor. But to have any comfort here, you would have to downgrade this to around 7 – 8 users maximum. Note that there are no external covered spaces for storage, all must be kept inside.
The tent comes with a divider, so you can create two separate rooms and both will have separate entrance doors on the opposite sides. So this makes it an option for two couples or for two small families with 1-2 kids.
The structure is with mesh on the ceiling and with large windows and doors with windows, so such a construction implies a very good ventilation, but the warmth is not preserved so this is a tent for summer camping.
The almost vertical walls imply that you can use cots and bunk cots which will fit nicely against its straightened walls. See some possible options here.
The packed size is really excellent, 28 x 10 inches (71 x 25 cm), but the tent is heavy and you will need a car for transportation to your camping place; it could be transported also on a motorbike.
Comfort, materials, and constructions
This is a very tall tent, and it allows you to stand in every part of it, even in the corners. The two doors and huge windows only add to the overall comfort of this construction.
Lots of mesh around allows for the air circulation, and you should not have issues with condensation. But bear in mind, there is no vestibule or porch here, all the stuff must be kept inside. So if this is an issue, better check some tents with screen porches, like this Ozark Trail 10 tent or the Northwest Territory 10 tent.
The divider makes two separate rooms, each big enough to accommodate the biggest queen size bed.
You have a single-layer tent in its biggest part, with a minimal fly that covers only the ceiling. The whole structure is very tall and boxy, so do not expect it to work so nicely in heavy winds.
The fabric used here is polyester with 1200 mm PU waterproofness rating, the same in all the areas of the tent. So this is good enough for a normal summer camping. The floor is bathtub-style which is a good feature to have as it minimizes ground level seams.
The tent is with huge windows on all sides and with two doors which also have mesh windows on them. These openings are extra panels for rain protection and for privacy.
The frame consists of vertical steel poles plus the fiberglass roof poles. They are with the diameters of 12.7, 16, and 19.5 millimeters, so this is partly behind the weight of this tent, which is over 17 kg.
The tent comes with 6 pockets plus 2 gear lofts to keep some gear out of the way. You also have a power cord port here.
It is best to set this tent with the help of a partner, and in such a case it will be ready in about 15 minutes. There is color coding here to help you in the process. To take it down plan some 10 minutes or so.

Good and less good features
Here is my short summary:
- 2 rooms.
- Great packed size.
- Very livable.
- Not for heavy rains or strong winds.
As of the moment of writing this text, the price of this tent is around $460, so the tent is expensive but if you like the style it is worth the investment.

In the conclusion of this Eureka Copper Canyon 12 Tent review, I would stress again that this is a very comfortable tent but only if you downgrade the number of users considerably. The tall walls and huge windows will give you a feeling of being at home. I would use it for summer camping only, do not think it can withstand lots of pressure from any side. If you need a smaller tent of this type, check this 8-person version.
If you still need something different, please look around, this site is only about family camping tents. See these Newdora 12 cabin tent, Ozark Trail 12 Dark Rest tent, and Ozark Trail Base Camp 14 tent. Check also in the Categories above.
