The Eureka Copper Canyon LX 12 Tent is a freestanding and easy to use cabin type family camping shelter, tall and pleasant with its numerous windows and two doors.
Key features & benefits
- Cabin type tent.
- Freestanding.
- 2 Doors.
- Very tall.
- E-cable port.
- Storage pouches.
Overview
This Eureka Copper Canyon LX 12 person tent is the largest in this Copper Canyon series that includes 4 tents in total. These tents have been on the market for a number of years already, previously without the LX letters in the name. So this is a modified and the latest version.
This is a cabin type tent with steep and straight walls, and it is very tall with a 84 inches (213 cm) peak height. This means you have a stand-up height almost everywhere in this tent.
The fly is a partial-coverage type so it protects mainly the roof, but this is why the tent is fully freestanding, and in addition you have great views around as you realize from the picture below.
There are two doors here and a removable divider shown below, so this is formally a two-room tent. Note that the windows are with inner shutters that attach with toggles only. I wonder what they were thinking with such a design.
Other details
- The tent has a small brim above one of the doors for a dry entry.
- There is also an E-cable port shown below.
- The floor is a bathtub style.
- There are plenty of stash pockets and a gear loft shown below.
- You have small pockets to stow away guy lines.
Materials
The poles: You have a combination of steel used for the 6 legs that are 19 mm diameter, and fiberglass used for the 3 roof poles with 16 mm diameter and a brim pole.
The legs attach to the tent’s base with the usual pin and ring system, so this is easy to do. On the sides you have clips and on the roof the tent has sleeves. Dealing with sleeves may be annoying with shock-corded poles when you have to pull them out but this is all standard design.
I mentioned freestanding feature, but you have 14 stakes included plus 6 guy ropes so never miss to secure the tent properly.
The fabric: All parts of the tents are the same 75D 190T polyester taffeta with a 1200 mm waterproof rating. The mesh sections are a 68D polyester no-see-um.
So these are moderately strong materials, the waterproof rating is good enough for the walls and the fly, but this value is quite small for the floor. As mentioned above, the floor is a bathtub type so the seams are well above the ground.
Ventilation
The ceiling is all mesh, and you have already seen its numerous windows with mesh. The fly is without vents but this is not a big deal because it is a minimal fly and vapor can escape everywhere.
More important is absence of floor vents. When it is raining you have to keep the windows closed. Though the windows cannot close properly with those toggles, and they are quite low so you may be fine with what you have here.
Who is it for
Regarding the area, the tent is officially for 12 people. The picture below shows its floor dimensions and what the manufacturer thinks how you can use it. It is very difficult to have such two rows of pads on the given tent’s width.
So you have 168 ft² (15.6 m²) of the floored area, and this would mean 14 ft² (1.3 m²) per person. There are no vestibules for storage, so all in all, it is best to downgrade the number of users drastically. You might want to compare this with the Eddie Bauer Olympic Air 12 Tent which is of a similar size but a different shape.
Regarding seasons & climate, I mentioned its height and great windows, so this is perfect for a completely calm weather without winds, and with as little rain as possible. Remember those windows without zippers.
This is a summer camping tent and you should not put it to harsh tests. So it is best to disregard the statement on Amazon about its 3-season use.
Regarding the weight, the tent is on the heavy side with its 37 lb 14.1 oz (17.2 kg). But it has lots of floor space and it is tall, so the weight is justified.
The packed size is 29.53 x 11.42 x 11.42 inches (75 x 29 x 29 cm), not bad for such a large tent. The carry bag is well done, see below how it looks.
Regarding the price, it is steep but the tent is pleasant and you have a brand behind it that has been around for far longer than a century.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
In summary, this Eureka Copper Canyon LX 12 Tent is pleasant and easy to use. It offers lots of head room and you have a stand up height everywhere. I see it best suited for calm weather summer camping, and it is certainly not large enough for the official number of users.
Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all of them here in the site so that you can easily compare:
