Here you have my comparison between Naturehike Massif 4 4-Season Hot Tent and Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 4 Person Tent. They may look similar, but my conclusion is the the former is far better. Read here why this is so.
Tents similarities and shared features
These two tents look very similar and they share a number of features. These include the following:
- Both tents are officially for 4 people. This includes two inner vis-a-vis tents and a large central floorless living area.
- Both tents are supported with 6 aluminum poles.
- Both have four doors, so you have them on all four sides of the tent.
- There are two vestibules in both tents. They are on the two narrow sides of the tent.
- Both tents allow for two large awnings (poles not included) on the longer sides, see how they look:
- The height difference is minimal, you have 70.8 inches (180 cm) peak height in the Naturehike tent, and 70 inches (178 cm) in the Big Agnes tent.
- The overall structure, shape, and floor plan are very similar. Below you can see more details, and all the dimensions.
The differences between Naturehike Massif 4 Hot Tent and Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 4 Person Tent
Here are the most important differences given in no particular order:
- Regarding fabric, there is some mess in the Naturehike Massif 4 Hot Tent description. It is apparently made of a silicone coated polyester, but they write also that it is made of nylon. It is hard to know which is correct, but most likely only the floor of the inner tents is made of nylon. The Big Agnes tent is made of a PU coated polyester. From what you can read in some sources, a silicone coating is far more enduring than a PU coating and this makes the Naturehike better.
- Waterproof rating of the Naturehike tent this is officially 3000 mm, compared to 1500 mm in the Big Agnes tent.
- You have closable skylight windows in the Naturehike tent, see the picture below. There is no such a luxury in the Big Agnes tent.
- There is a stove jack on the roof of the Naturehike tent, this you do not have in the Big Agnes tent.
- The frame is external in the Naturehike tent, as compared to the frame under the fly in the Big Agnes tent. More about this below.
- Both doors on the longer sides of the Naturehike Massif 4 tent are double-layer type. This includes full size mesh doors paired with panels. One of them is in the picture below. This is not so with the Big Agnes tent where you have only panels.
- Ventilation in both tents looks similar. This includes mesh inner tents and four vents on the shell/fly. Actually, the vents are quite low, and I am not impressed with them. But you have already seen the huge mesh doors in the Naturehike tent. When the sky is clear, you can use them to ventilate the tent while being protected from flying insects.
- There is a perimeter snow skirt in the Naturehike tent, you can see it in the picture below. This you do not have in the Big Agnes tent.
My rating
Based on what is already mentioned and on the text below, here you have my rating for the two tents. As you realize, the Big Agnes tent is no match for the Naturehike tent for almost all the rating criteria I use.
Weight
Area
Packed size
Doors
Ventilation
Waterproof rating
Seasons
Setup
Naturehike
Massif 4
Big Agnes
Wyoming Trail 4
Weight: The Naturehike Massif 4 tent weighs 17.6 lb (8 kg). The Big Agnes tent is much heavier with its 22.3 lb (10.12 kg).
Area: In the Naturehike tent you have 126 ft² (11.7 m²) of the total covered area. This includes the two floored inner tents, the central living room, and two vestibules.
The Big Agnes tent is only a bit larger, it offers 131.5 ft² (12.2 m²). The difference is clearly not substantial at all.
Packed volume: When packed, the Naturehike Massif 4 tent measures 26.4 x 11.8 x 10.6 inches (67 x 30 x 27 cm), so this is 54.3 liters of volume.
You have 25.5 x 16.5 x 9.5 inches (65 x 42 x 24 cm) as the packed size of the Big Agnes tent, and this is around 65.5 liters of volume, so it is quite bulkier.
Doors: I already mentioned this issue above and you have seen a picture. The Naturehike Massif 4 tent design offers a far better protection from flying insects while still having maximum air circulation.
The corresponding doors on the Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 4 tent are only panels, and this is far inferior to the Naturehike design.
Ventilation: This is related to the doors design, and you have more options in the Naturehike tent.
Waterproof rating: You have seen the numbers above, and also about the coating difference, so the Naturehike tent material is better.
Seasons: The Naturehike tent comes ready for a wood burning tent stove, and you can use it in all seasons and have heating when needed. This is a big bonus that ads to the versatility of the tent. A huge advantage here.
On the other hand, the Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 4 tent is suitable for up to two-three seasons. You do not have much protection from the cold in such a tent.
Setup: In the Naturehike Massif 4 tent the poles are added from outside. This means you have a dry setup design, so you can set it up even when it rains and the inner tents will remain protected. This is also optimal for windy places.
If you have ever been in a situation to prepare your tent when it rains, you will know how much better this design is than the design in the Big Agnes tent where you have to add the fly after you prepare the frame and the inner tents.
Regarding the price, both tents are expensive, but the Big Agnes tent costs more. This may change when you read the text so check the links given below.

Final thoughts
In summary, both tents presented here are functional and with great features. Both offer an almost optimal privacy due to the fact that the inner tents are physically separated.
But the Naturehike Massif 4 Hot Tent is a far better family camping tent. It outperforms the Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 4 Person Tent in all the criteria used in my comparison table above.
