What this Gotland 5 tent is about
Here you have a great example of a tunnel tent supported with 4 long loops, huge and tall, with an 82.68 inches (210 cm) peak height. There is an inner tent with a removable divider so this is the sleeping area, and you also have a large living room in the rest. The structure is clear from the floor plan shown below. The tent is a hybrid single-double type, where the living room is the single-layer part. This is very typical for tunnel tents from manufacturers in the EU.
So you have 3 rooms in total, but you can use the space as you wish. You can have 2 rooms after removing the divider, or you can even remove the inner tent and have one gigantic room. The floor is fully sewn-in and sealed, and the inner tent has yet another floor which is also fully sealed.
The tent has three huge doors indicated in the floor plan above, and all of them are double-layer with mesh and panels. The panel of one of the doors can be used to create an awning, you can see this in the top picture above, the poles for the awning are included. There are also 6 separate windows, some are solid and with shatters for privacy, and some are with mesh and panels.
The picture above shows how it looks from the other side, and with all the doors open. Below you have a view inside with the inner tent and its doors open. Observe the large living room with its sewn-in floor.
Ventilation
When the sky is clear you will have as much ventilation as you want through all those mesh windows and doors. The picture below shows that there is a large gap between the inner tent and the shell. The inner tent is attached to the shell. This allows for air circulation and to fight condensation. There are also back vents/windows that allow for air flow through the tent. But what I dislike is the fact that there are no floor vents. They are necessary during long hours of rain.
Other features
This tent has lots to offer, not only the large area. So below you can see its storage pouches on the inner tent, you have them on both sides next to the inner doors.
You can see also shutters on the windows for privacy on solid windows and for protection on the mesh windows. There is a lantern hanging point, and an E-cable port is available as well.
Materials
They write that the tent is built from recycled materials and designed in Germany. Here is what it includes:
The fabric
The shell is a 100% polyester, 185T with a PU coating that gives it a waterproof rating of 5000 mm. No doubt you will never need more. All seams are taped.
The inner tent is also polyester, but breathable 185T. Mesh sections are with a quality material that does not let any insects in. The floors are 100% polyethylene 125 g/m² and this is a highly waterproof material with a 10000 mm rating, so you are definitely safe from groundwater.
The poles & pegs
You have 4 fiberglass loops 11 mm in diameter, and the mentioned 2 awning poles are steel 16 mm in diameter. A full set of pegs and guylines is also included. This is not a freestanding tent and it is essential that it is staked properly. This all comes in its included carry bag.
Who is this Skandika Gotland 5 Tent for
Regarding capacity, officially the tent is for 5 people, and for this it offers 201 ft² (18.68 m²). This implies 40.2 ft² (3.7 m²) so you have a camping castle. In spite of such a low capacity, it is large enough to be included in my list of extra large family camping tents. With its fully sealed living room, this tent can easily accommodate up to 10 people.
Regarding seasons & climate, the tent is built as a 3-season camping shelter, it can be closed to preserve the warmth. It is very suitable for a cooler environment like in the UK and Scandinavia.
Note that it is very tall and the poles are fiberglass which is not a particularly strong material. So I would rather not use it in very windy places. Observe that poles are from outside so you can pitch the tent even when it is raining and the inner will remain protected, this is normally described as a dry setup. This tent is huge but 2 people can pitch it in 20 minutes or so.
Regarding weight & packed size, this tent is heavy and bulky, but you have seen how big and tall it is. So the weight is 40.8 lb (18.5 kg) and this is around 1 kg per square meter, not bad at all. The packed size is 31.5 x 16.5 x 8.3 inches (80 x 42 x 21 cm). All in all this is a car camping tent.
Regarding price, it is very moderate for what you have here. This is a great value for the money.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
So the dimensions of this Skandika Gotland Group or Family Tunnel Tent 5 Person are enormous, and it can accommodate twice as many people as its official capacity tells you. Its organization in 3 rooms is excellent, and its waterproof rating is simply impressive. Fully recommended. It is included in my list of best tunnel tents for camping. Note, they have a larger 6-person version as well.
In the table below you can see the summary of my rating, and some pros and cons. This will allow you to compare it with some other tents of this type here in the site.

I like the look of this tent, but as I’m a 70 year old lady I wonder how easy it is to put up on my own?
Any one able to give me advice.
Thank you. Lynda

Hi Lynda, it is easier when two people do the job, but in principle, one person can do this.
