Best Sierra Designs Tents for Camping

Last Modified: 02/01/2023

Here you have my selection of Sierra Designs tents for camping, and some of them are light enough to be carried on the trail as well. These are reliable and affordable tents from a globally known brand.

Best Sierra Designs Tents for Camping.

The tents include simple dome and extended structures, with a full and also with a partial coverage fly. You even have an example of a dark rest tent here.

The tents in the list below are ordered by the floored area from smaller to larger:

  1. Sierra Designs Nomad 6 Person Tent
  2. Sierra Designs Fern Canyon 6 Person Tent
  3. Sierra Designs Alpenglow 6 Person Tent
  4. Sierra Designs Tabernash 6 Person Tent
  5. Sierra Designs Aspen Meadow 8 Tent

1. Sierra Designs Nomad 6 Person Tent

This Sierra Designs Nomad 6 Person Tent offers a floored area of 84.4 ft² (7.84 m²). This is not so big for 6 people, but it also has two vestibules so the total protected area is 120 ft² (11.1 m²).

In view of so much covered space, its weight looks truly impressive. Namely, the tent weighs only 12 lb 13 oz (5.81 kg). This is why I have included it in my list of best 6-person backpacking tents.

Here you have a full-coverage fly, and I have included it in my separate list with such tents. There are two doors, and you also have a vent on the fly.

The tent is supported with top-quality DAC aluminum poles. Note that it has an integrated window on the fly, it is visible in the picture. This is cool to have because it allows for views around in the periods of rain when you have to keep everything closed.

2. Sierra Designs Fern Canyon 6 Person Tent

Here you have a very simple dome style structure but it still includes one extra ridge pole. It is fully freestanding so you can pitch it anywhere. But this is why there is no vestibule for storage as you realize from the picture.

The tent has one door and you have an E-port, and a gear loft is included. It is supported with fiberglass poles and the canopy fabric a combination of a no-see-um mesh and taffeta. The fly is 68D polyester taffeta with a 1200 mm waterproof rating, DWR. The same material is used for its bathtub type floor.

The tent weighs 13 lb 7 oz (6.1 kg) so it is indeed lightweight. The floored area is 90 ft² (8.36 m²).

3. Sierra Designs Alpenglow 6 Person Tent

This tent is an extended dome style shelter with its inner area under the dome and a vestibule that is supported with an extra pole. So it is very easy to set it up, and one person can do this.

But this is also a dark rest shelter. They claim that it blocks 98% of the daylight, so it is included in my list of best dark rest tents.

As you see from the picture, the tent is with a full coverage fly, and the fabric is with a very high waterproof rating. The poles are fiberglass, and you also have an E-cable port.

The tent weighs 18 lb 5 oz (8.3 kg), and the inner area is 100 ft² (9.2 m²). The vestibule adds to this a protected space that is around 18.3 ft² (1.7 m²).

4. Sierra Designs Tabernash 6 Person Tent

Sierra Designs Tabernash 6 Person Tent.

The Sierra Designs Tabernash 6 Person Tent can be described as an extended dome style tent. This is because it has the usual X-crossed main poles that support the dome, but there is yet another loop that supports its front vestibule.

From the picture you see that you have a full-coverage fly, for a complete protection in a 3-season camping. The tent is tall, you have a peak height of 72 inches (183 cm).

It is roomy enough to accommodate 6 people, you have 100 ft² (9.3 m²) of the floored area. But note that you also have 27 ft² (2.5 m²) under its vestibule.

The poles are fiberglass, and this makes the tent very affordable. There is an E-cable port, and a gear loft is included. The weight is 17 lb (7.71 kg).

5. Sierra Designs Aspen Meadow 8 Tent

This is a tent with a central dome part and two extensions on the sides. As you see from the picture, you have a full coverage fly. The fly includes a large front vestibule for storage of your gear.

There are two doors, the rear door on the opposite side is without vestibule but it has a small brim. The tent is suitable for 2-3 seasons camping. It is supported with 6 different fiberglass poles, two for the central dome, two for the extensions, one for the vestibule, and one for the rear brim.

The fly is a 185T taffeta with a moderate 1200 mm coating and the floor is a polyethylene. The tent weighs 21.74 lb (9.86 kg) and its floored area is 126 ft² (11.6 m²).

Summary

So this was my selection of the Sierra Designs tents for camping, and it will be updated whenever I find a tent that deserves to be included here. This is why you might want to bookmark this text and visit if occasionally and keep as a reference.

If you are not sure how to choose, here are a few tips.

• If you need space to store your gear, then choose one of the tents with vestibules. You have them several of this type.

• Do you want to sleep longer in the morning? If so, you should definitely consider the dark rest tent that is in the list above. Note that it also has a vestibule.

• But if you want a tent that is fully freestanding and you need such a design because of the ground where you plan to camp, choose a tent without a vestibule. You have this in the list.

• Need something for the trail with your friends? There is something for you in the list above.
