What this Berghaus Air 6XL Polycotton Tent is about
This tent is a polycotton version of their another synthetic tent that has been around for some time. So here you have a fabric that is a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Such materials are strong and relatively heavy so the tent makes far less noise when it is windy.
The tent is a very typical tunnel-shape construction and you can see its floor plan in the picture below.
You have an inner tent within the shell, this is the darker area on the right in the picture above. This is a sleeping area with two removable dividers so you can have several different configurations regarding bedrooms.
The inner rooms are wide and long enough to accommodate 2 people each. Below you can see how they look.
In front of the inner tent you have a huge living room with its numerous windows, and with a fully sewn-in and sealed floor. See how impressive this all is:
Note that the inner tent has its own floor, plus the floor of the shell underneath it. In terms of rooms, you can have one gigantic room if you remove the inner tent. If you remove dividers there will be 2 rooms, but you can also have 3 or 4 rooms in total.
There is also a partially protected porch in front, with its windows and roof. Because of all these features, I have included this tent in my list of best tents with 4 rooms and best canvas tents with a porch.
The tent is very tall, you have 86.6 inches (220 cm) peak height on the main axis in the center. This means a standing height in most of the tent.
Air beams
There are no solid poles here. You have 5 long high performance TPU air beams for support. Their position is marked with yellow lines in the picture with the floor plan above.
Each of beams is with a separate spring loaded quick release air valve for easy deflation at the touch of a button. Access points to the valves are on the sides, you will see two of them in the picture below that shows side doors. There is a 2-way double efficiency stirrup pump with gauge included.
Even the awnings above the side doors are with air beams, see how this looks, so you have a dry entry:
The doors & windows
The tent has 3 large doors, one is deep under the porch and here you have a full size mesh plus a panel. See how it looks:
The side doors have solid windows on them, but here too you have a full-size zippered mesh. The picture below shows these side doors on the opposite sides.
There are 4 large windows in the living room, plus 2 in the porch, plus 2 on the side doors. All if them are translucent solid constructions. The solid windows in the living room are all with shutters for privacy.
Storage elements
This is yet another great feature here. You have storage pouches at various places, two of them are between the inner doors, and some are under the windows, there are storage pockets inside bedrooms as well. See the pictures:
Materials
You have already seen about the shell fabric. The floor seems to be a polyester, no info about its rating. They claim these are fully fire retardant materials tested to the European EN 5912 safety standard.
The inner tent is a breathable polyester. The material is darkened to reduce early morning light but I would not describe this as a dark rest tent. Other features and details include:
- A full set of steel pegs, stakes, and guylines.
- Electric zipped access points on both sides of tent, and Velcro tidies to run the cable to a top lantern point.
- Valve tightener and repair kit.
- A robust wheeled carry bag with adjustable buckles and with a large U-shaped top zipper.
Ventilation
Ventilation here is almost perfect for a tunnel-type tent. You have seen about its three large doors with mesh. So when the sky is clear, you can have as much ventilation as you want.
There are also multiple high vents on all the sides of the tent, below you can see the rear vents and one of the side vents. But there are no floor vents in the living room, pity.
Who is it for
Regarding the area, this depends on the way you use the tent. You have more total space if the inner tent is removed. There is a gap between the inner tent and the shell, so this takes some space when the inner tent is in place.
But in any case this is a huge area. The total floored area of the shell tent is 244 ft² (22.7 m²). The tent is officially for 6 people. This means 40.7 ft² (3.8 m²) per person. Not many tents can match this. This is why the tent is included in my list of extra large family camping tents.
Note that the living room alone has around 129 ft² (12 m²) and it is fully protected. So if necessary, the tent can easily accommodate at least 12 people. The porch offers extra 48.4 ft² (4.5 m²).
All in all, this is a great shelter for a large group of friends at some summer festival, and a perfect option for families with kids.
Regarding seasons & climate, this is a tent that will perform great in any season and in any environment. They do not provide waterproof rating, there is only a statement that the tent is completely waterproof.
I do not think there is such a thing as a fully waterproof tent. With such polycotton tents the waterproof rating is usually low but they are very reliable. You have expanding thread seams, and this means that stitching expands after first wetting/condensation to enhance future waterproofing. The same is with the cotton threads in the fabric.
The tent is well-ventilated and this makes it a great option for a warm weather camping. But all its openings can be closed if you are in a cold environment.
The beams cannot break. They may bend under strong wind pressure, but they restore the shape instantly when the pressure drops. So in spite of such a size, the tent should perform well even in windy places.
Regarding the weight, this is a very heavy structure with its 108.5 lb (49.2 kg). This is partly because of its great size, its inflatable beams, and also partly due to the cotton used in the fabric.
The packed size is 37.8 x 23.6 x 21.7 inches (96 x 60 x 55 cm). So the tent is only for places with a car access.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
So this Berghaus Air 6XL Polycotton Tent is clearly an incredibly well-built family camping polycotton tent. It can be used in all seasons and in any weather conditions. It allows for various configurations regarding the number of rooms.
The space is huge, the tent is tall and pleasant with its numerous solid windows. Though it is heavy and bulky, but its air beams make it easy to use and one person can set it up with ease. Fully recommended.
Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria. I apply them consistently to all the tents here in the site so that you can easily compare:

Great tent when dry and you can put away dry. Virtually impossible to deal with when wet. I recently went camping and the tent pitch was wet & muddy at pack away time. I had a horrendous 2hrs trying to clean the mud off & then pack the tent away. I realised a buffoon invented the tent or someone who didn’t think about packing it away. It weighs 50kgs dry, so imagine it wet! I absolutely lost my temper packing it away. It doesn’t separate into sections, a very bad design fault. I had to unpack the thing and hang it over my Defender, hose it down, that took hrs, then let it dry. what a ridiculous design!
