What this is about

Coleman has had tents under the name Sundome on the market for several decades already. They have always been simple dome-shaped structures. But here you an upgraded version with added light system and a few more features. Note that they have more tents with the word Elite in the name, so they should not be mixed.

The picture below shows the tent without the fly so you can see its basic shape under the two X-crossed poles. What you do not see is a set of loops on the canopy where you attach a divider. So the tent is formally a 2-room configuration. 

Doors and windows

This tent has two different doors. One is a hinged door and this means it has a frame on the perimeter. This includes poles that you put into perimeter zipped sleeves. This hinged door has a handle and the usual zipper, see the picture above. So you can close it fully with the zipper but you do not have to.

Because of this feature, I have included it in my list of hinged door camping tents. The door on the opposite side is larger and here you have the usual zipper only, you can see it in the picture:

Below you can see this second door from inside, as you realize it has a mesh section in the upper part, so this is a window on the door. The same feature is also on the hinged door, so you practically have two windows on the opposite sides and they allow for views around.

Integrated LED lighting system

This is yet another great feature here that includes a switch shown in the pictures below. It is clearly visible in the dark as you realize from the second picture.

There is a cable that connects the switch with the light under the canopy shown below. The system is CPX 6 compatible, powered by a battery cartridge that need 4 D-batteries (sold separately) or a rechargeable cartridge (sold separately). 

You have 100 (high), 42 (low), 5 (nightlight) lumens options and the runtime is 26 hours (high), 65 hours (low), 81 hours (nightlight). 

So these features are a good reason for having this tent in my list of best lighted tents.

Materials

The poles: You have 11 mm diameter fiberglass poles. Two are used for the dome. You have a snag-free continuous pole sleeves for easy setup. There are two short poles that create small awnings above both doors, so this is a useful dry entry design.

They claim that the pin-and-ring system that helps keep corner pole connections from slipping is a patented design.

The fabric: The fly is a partial coverage type and this is a polyester taffeta 75D. They do not provide information about its waterproof rating. The canopy is a 68D polyester mesh and taffeta.

On the floor you have a 1000D polyethylene, 140 g/m², so this is a very strong and highly waterproof material.

This all is their WeatherTec system and their Polyguard fabric, with patented corner welds, protected seams, and a covered zipper to help keep water out. They claim that the tent can withstand 35+ MPH winds. 

Auto-roll windows

This is a design with a metal strip in the window shutter, see the picture.

These metal strips you insert into the sleeve/slot in the middle of the window, and close its with the Velcro tabs. The metal coils up by itself when you want to open the window/panel.

• Insta-Clip suspension for easy poles attachment.

• 2 Storage pockets are on the walls to keep you organized.

• Official setup time is about 10 minutes.
• Expandable carry bag lets you tear away the rip strip for easy packing.

Ventilation

The canopy has plenty of mesh, and you have seen about its two mesh windows on the opposite sides. This should work good enough.

Who is it for

Regarding the area, the tent is officially for 6 people, and for this you have 120.6 ft² (11.2 m²). This implies 20.1 ft² (1.86 m²) per person. This may look a lot, but it is best to downgrade the number of users to up to 4 maximum.

Regarding seasons & climate, I see this tent as a 2 season family camping shelter for occasional outdoor adventures. It has plenty of great features for such a use.

But with such a fly design and those small brims, I would not use it in very windy places, no matter what they say about wind testing.

Regarding the weight, this is not bad in view of its overall floor area. The tent weighs 20 lb (10.89 kg). The packed size is 29.9 x 12 x 9.5 inches (76 x 30 x 24 cm). All in all, this is a car camping shelter and you are not supposed to carry it long distances.

Regarding the price, it is very reasonable for a tent with so many useful features.
