Both Coleman tents and Core tents are extremely popular on the US market, with many tents that remain bestsellers for years, and for all the good reasons.
The comparison between Coleman tents and Core tents can be done only for the US market area. The reason is that Core tents are not globally available, while Coleman has branches on three continents.
So in the US area, both brands are incredibly popular and some of the best-selling tents belong to these two brands. But Core has a smaller number of tents on the market, yet they tend to remain popular for many years. On the other hand, Coleman has them many, and they launch new models very frequently.
Both brands build affordable car camping tents.
Global presence
I mentioned above that Coleman is available on three continents. But if you are in the US, this information is of no importance to you, both brands are there and they are widely available at various sellers.
The Core brand is actually Core Equipment, so do not get confused, this is the same company.
Coleman vs Core regarding versatility
In this analysis I shall not consider Coleman tents from the EU and AU branches. On the US market, Coleman has tents in all general shapes like dome and extended dome tents, cabin-type tents, and tunnel tents.
Those include also instant setup tents, and lighted tents. The picture below shows one of its best-selling tents, the Coleman Evanston Dome Tent with Screen Room. It has more than 8000 ratings by Amazon customers, and the average when I checked was 4.6/5.
Core tents are mostly cabin-type, see one great example below, and dome or extended dome tents. I do not remember any tunnel-type tent from this brand.
They also have instant setup tents and lighted tents. The picture shows one that combine both of these features, the Core Lighted Instant Cabin Tent that they build as 6, 9, 10, and 12 person versions. This tent is with a very high average rating on Amazon.
Coleman vs Core regarding new technologies
Currently, there are no air beam tents from Core on the market, at least as of the moment of writing this text. Coleman-US is the same, so for the US area there are no difference here. But Coleman-EU has some really advanced air beam tents on the market.
Regarding dark rest design, so far I have seen only a few Core tent of that type. On the other hand, Coleman has them many on all three continents, and in all possible shapes and sizes.
Regarding popularity
If you check Amazon bestselling tents in the group of camping tents, you will see both brands presented. As of the moment of writing this text, there are several tents of Coleman in the top 100 best-selling tents on Amazon, and the same holds for Core.
As of the moment of writing this text, the number 1 Amazon best-selling tent Coleman Sundome has tens of thousands reports by customers, this tells you about its popularity.
So Coleman is a bit more popular, and this is partly because of so many tents on the market. Some of its most popular tents have been around for many years, in this sense Coleman is similar to Core.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes Core tents?
I could not find reliable information about this. Most likely their tents are built in China.
What is the largest Core Cabin tent?
The largest tents of Core are 12 person, and they have them as instant and non-instant, lighted and non-lighted.
Are Core Cabin tents good for all seasons?
Core cabin tents are bulky and tall, most suitable for calm weather without much wind and rain. They are with mesh ceiling so you would not feel great in a cold environment. Therefore, I do not think they are built to be used as 3-season tents.
Are Core tents any good?
The answer is yes, Core tents are in general a great value for the money. They may be slightly more expensive than their Coleman counterparts, but they are worth the investment.
Who owns the Coleman Company?
According to Wikipedia, the Coleman Company is owned by Newell Brands with headquarters in Chicago. They have several domestic plants in the USA, but those do not make tents from what I have found.
Who makes Coleman tents?
Coleman tents manufacturing is most likely in Asia, there is no reliable information about this.
Who founded the Coleman Company?
This is a brand with a long history. The company was founded by William Coffin Coleman in 1900, and he began by selling gasoline pressure lamps in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
Is Coleman a good brand for camping?
I think the answer is generally yes. They make everything for outdoors, from shelters, sleeping equipment, furniture, to lanterns, stoves, etc. In fact, I do not think there is a brand that could compete with Coleman regarding versatility of products they have.
Are Coleman tents waterproof?
Frankly speaking, my first ever experience with a Coleman tent was terrible. I had it at almost 3000 meters in the Alps, untested and brand new, and it leaked everywhere.
However, I want to be fair, this single experience means nothing. I know for sure that they have very reliable tents on the market on several continents. But make sure you test your tent before you get in trouble as I did.
Summary
In summary, both Coleman and Core are very popular brands in the US. But Coleman is far more present on the market with many of its tents in various shapes. So Core is not a match in this sense.
Regarding reliability, my feeling is that Core tents are less criticized by users, they are a great value for the money. Let me know what you think about this.
