This Core 9 Person Extended Dome Plus Tent with Vestibule 16′ x 9′ is with three separate windows and with floor vents, supported with fiberglass poles, and suitable for 3 season camping.
Key features & benefits
- Extended dome tent.
- Fiberglass poles.
- 1 Door.
- Lightweight.
- Floor vents.
- E-cable port.
What is in the name
This tent is one of the largest in their latest series of 5 tents that they launched recently. On their site it is under the name used in the title. But on Amazon you will see the awkward name CORE Tents for Outdoor Family, Hiking, and Backpacking. In fact, none of them is for hiking and backpacking.
They also use the word Vestibule in the name, and this is for a part of the tent which is just a porch supported with an extra loop.
But this all aside, the tent is a single-room extended dome type structure with a central area under two X-crossed loops and two extensions on the sides, each supported with one loop. The picture below shows it without the fly so you can easily understand its structure.
The door that you see in the picture is the only one, not so great for a tent which is supposed to accommodate 9 people. You also have three separate windows, plus one on the door itself. Some of these openings are visible in the picture below. Observe also the E-cable port which is available.
The tent is moderately high, only 72 inches (183 cm). Its dimensions and general shape are identical to their Core 9 Person Extended Dome Tent 16 x 9 that has been on the market for years, but there are some differences in details.
Materials
The poles: You have fiberglass used for the poles, and they attach to the tents through grommets on the base (the picture below), and clips and sleeves on the canopy.
Note that the poles in the central area are pre-bent on the ceiling so this creates more volume and head space. You also get 20 stakes in the package and they are 7 inches (18 cm) long.
The fabric: The tent is made of a 75D polyester so this is a durable material, and its waterproof rating is 1200 mm. This may not look much but it is enough and typical for tents from this brand, and all seams ate raped.
The fly is a partial coverage type and it creates the mentioned porch which is reasonably well protected, see the picture below. But I stress again this is not a vestibule.
The floor is a catenary cut 115 gsm polyethylene. There are large mesh areas on the canopy and also several mesh pockets are mesh, one is shown in the previous pictures above.
Ventilation
The windows are with mesh and panels so you can have plenty of cross flow. When you have to keep this closed in the case of rain, you have the mentioned large mesh sections on the ceiling.
In addition to this, there are two floor vents on the narrow sides of the tent. Note that these vents are closable, so you have mesh plus inner zippered panels, see below how this looks. This is to prevent cold drafts when not needed.
Outside, the vents are with flaps that can be staked so that air can get in easily, see one of them:
So these are great details, and all essential elements are in place, there is nothing to object here.
Who is it for
Regarding the area, this tent is officially for 9 people and the area is 144 ft² (13.4 m²). The dimensions are such that it is indeed possible to put 9 sleeping pads on the floor.
But this is not a castle for 9 people, for real camping and if you want more comfort, reduce the number of people by half or so.
Regarding seasons & climate, they describe it as a 3-season tent and this is realistic. It has all the elements for warm weather, and it is still closable enough if you use it in a cooler environment. But with such a fly and porch, I would avoid very windy places.
Regarding the weight, this tent can be described as lightweight for its overall size. But it weighs 27 lb (12.2 kg) so this is not something to carry long distances. The tent is for car camping so the weight is not really so important.
The packed size is more important, and the picture below shows how it looks when packed. For its overall size, the tent can be described as compact and my rating for this is very good, more below.
Regarding the price, I would say it is very good for such a great tent and from this brand.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
In summary, this Core 9 Person Extended Dome Plus Tent with Vestibule 16′ x 9′ is well built and reliable. It may look similar to some other tents from this brand, but there are differences.
The tent is easy to use, it is moderately light and compact, and perfectly suited for 3-season family camping at places with a car access. Fully recommended.
Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all of them here in the site so that you can easily compare:
