What this is about
They have launched this Quad tent to fill the gap between their Crua Tri 3-person tent and Crua Loj which is a 6-person tent. They all follow the same general tunnel-cabin type shape and offer plenty of space, and come with impressive features.
This Quad tent is officially for four people, but it can accommodate more as you will see below. The tent is with a peak height of 7.38 ft (225 cm), so you have a stand-up height in the bigger part of it.
Dark rest and insulated inner tent
You have a fully enclosed and floored shell that protects an inner tent within it, with its own additional fully sealed floor. The inner tent comes with a removable divider that creates two sleeping units, each within its own door.
But more importantly, the inner tent is an insulated structure. It is designed to offer temperature regulation with its a cushioned layer shown below. This is what they call the CruaBreathe Technology, and it includes microfiber-enforced fabric to resist the conductive flow of heat. This is why I have included it in my list of insulated tents.
It is supposed to keep you cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. The material is thick and this adds a lot to sound dampening when you are inside.
When fully closed, this inner tent completely blocks light from outside, so this is a perfect example of a dark rest tent.
Living room & vestibule
The rest of the shell tent creates a large living room which is roughly of the same size as the inner tent.
In addition, on the front you have an extra space that can be described as a floorless room or as a fully closable vestibule. But they call this part a porch.
Doors and windows
There are three external doors in total and all are double layer with mesh and panels. Two doors are in the porch area, one on the front and one on the side.
The third door is a side door with a direct access to the living area. Note that this side door has an additional pole that creates a brim for a dry entry, you can see it in the top picture above. Because of all these features, I have included it in my list of best tents with three doors.
There is also an inner door under the porch with the access to the living area. It is with a drop-down design for people with wheelchairs. This is convenient to have also when you camp with kids, to avoid tripping when they run in and out.
The inner tent is with its own two inner doors.
There are two large solid windows on the sides, and they are equipped with inner panels for privacy. Two additional solid windows are under the vestibule/porch, so when you keep the vestibule open, you have views to the front of the tent.
Awning configuration
The main front door is with a huge flap and dual side zippers, which allows for the awning shown in the picture. The poles for this purpose are included.
This creates an additional covered space that extends the tent for around 180 cm, and you can use it for sitting in the shade and for cooking.
Other details
- The tent features multiple storage pockets that are on the wall of the inner tent, so here you can keep lots of stuff and stay organized.
- There is a light hook on the ceiling of the living room.
- You also have a cable access port.
- Instruction manual is included.
Materials
The poles and stakes: It is interesting that this tent comes with aluminum poles, and this makes it different from its cousins that are with a steel frame. You have five shock-corded and color-coded pre-bent loops.
Note that the side parts (leg segments) are completely straight, so the tent has straight and steep side walls just like in a cabin type tent.
The attachment to the tent is through roof sleeves and pin-and-rings on the base. On the sides you have clips.
There are also a pair of awning poles, and two short pre-bent poles that create a brim above the side door on the living room.
No less than 38 stakes are included in the package, and 18 guylines.
The fabric: The shell tent is a laminated polycotton, 80/20% combination of polyester and cotton, and the bathtub floor is a thick polyethylene 180 g/m².
Bonuses
You have already seen the included awning poles, but there is more.
The tent comes with a porch footprint included, so you can use it if you want to separate your belongings from a muddy or dusty ground.
They have added also a carpet for the living room. This is a great bonus in particular if you camp with small kids, so they will feel comfortable and separated from potentially cold ground.
Ventilation
The tent has numerous vents on three sides. No less than five of them are on the walls around the inner tent, you can see them in the picture below.
But this is not all, there are also two low vents in the living room as well. This means there are 7 vents in total.
The inner tent is with its own openings that match those vents on the shell tent, so you can use them as it suits you.
But as mentioned above, there is a huge two-layer inner door under the vestibule, it is fully protected so you can use it with its mesh layer whenever you need extra air circulation. All, in all, ventilation here is simply excellent.

Who is it for
Regarding the area, you have the living room of 64 ft² (6 m²) and in the inner tent 58 ft² (5.4 m²). The total inner area per person is therefore 30.5 ft² (2.85 m²), so this is more than enough in view of its official 4-person capacity.
Do not forget the vestibule where you have additional 38 ft² (3.6 m²) of the covered area. You can use this for furniture and for cooking without worrying about the floor.
In fact, the living area is fully protected and with a sealed floor, so it can easily accommodate four people more if necessary.
But there is one detail that I dislike regarding the inner tent and its sleeping area. The total inner room dimensions are 9.5 x 6.1 ft (290 x 188 cm), and if you use it without the divider, it is easy to put four pads on the floor.
However, with the divider is place, you have the length of 188 cm in each of the two units, and this is far too-short for most of users.
In view of this, although the tent is officially a 3-room configuration (plus the fully protected vestibule), I have included it in the group of tents with two rooms.
Regarding seasons & climate, the tent is so impressive that it can be used in any season and in any climate. Though the waterproof rating is not officially given.
You have a strong frame to protect you from the wind, and the tent is fully closable if you feel cold. The insulation will also help in a cold environment.
If you camp with kids, the dark rest will come good when they take a nap during the day.
Plenty of venting options will make you feel comfortable in a warm environment. But all in all, I see it best suited for a cooler climate. After all, Crua Outdoors is an Irish brand.
Regarding the weight, there are two almost identical separate carry bags shown in the picture below, and both are heavy. The total weight is shown in the specifications. But they are with wheels, just to know.
The packed size is also not the best feature here, but this is completely normal for a tent that has an inner insulated tent.
Regarding the price, this is a pricy item, but this is also a high-quality product that will serve you for years in and any weather situation. Please follow the link below for updates.
