What this is about
Here you have a new tent in the Arizona GT series. After Super Arizona and Arizona GT 8/9, this is the smallest in the series, and they are all differently built.
The tent is an extended dome structure with the inner area which is close to a square. The two additional loop poles on the sides are there to support vestibules which you have on the two sides. Note that the tent is not freestanding, all must be staked down properly to be functional.
There are two large D-shaped doors on the two narrower sides, plus two large windows on the longer sides of the tent. Those windows are with mesh and with zippered panels that can be open from outside.
It allows for the awning configuration shown in the picture below. This extends the covered area so you can sit in the shade or use it for cooking.
The tent is with a full-coverage fly similar to the other two tents in this Arizona GT series so you have full protection in this 2-layer design. This is why I have added it to my list of tents with the full fly. This is also a rather tall structure for a dome tent, with a peak height of 80.7 inches (2.05 m).
Who is NTK Arizona GT 7/8 person tent for
Space-wise, the declared capacity is 7 to 8 people and this is what I use in the title above. They do not provide the exact numbers for the inner area, but from the picture below you can estimate that it provides around 101 ft² (9.4 m²). This would mean 12.6 ft² (1.2 m²) per person if used by 8 people.
So it is probably possible to squeeze 8 sleeping pads on the floor. But for a real family camping, I see it best suited for 4 people or so, say parents with up to two small kids.
Seasons-wise, they describe it as a 3-season tent and this is indeed so. You have a great waterproof rating and the fly which fully protects everything. All the doors and windows can be closed if you feel cold.
Weight-wise, with its 24.9 lb (11 kg) of weight, this is a moderately heavy tent. You will see how it compares with some other tents built in the same style, there is a comparison table below.
The packed size 26 x 10 x 10 inches (66 x 25 x 25 cm) looks really good, but my rating is always with respect to the total covered area, and here you do not have it so much.
In any case, this is a tent for places with motorized access, you can transport it in the car or on a motorbike.
Materials
The poles
There are 4 of them here and this is a chock-corded fiberglass. They are equipped with the usual pin and ring system for the connection with the tent’s base and with double gold plated ferrules, see the pictures below. Everything is color-coded for easy setup.
The fabric
They use the same materials here as in their other full-coverage tents. So the fly is a 190T polyester laminated with polyurethane that gives it a 2500 mm waterproof rating. This is enough for any weather conditions in 3-season camping. The seams are sealed.
The inner tent has plenty of fully breathable ultra-thin polyester no-see-um mesh designed to keep even the smallest insects and mosquitoes out.
The floor is a heavy-duty anti-fungus seamless polyethylene with an inner silver coated layer, and built in the bathtub style. They claim that this NTK Arizona GT 7/8 person tent meets CPAI-84 flammability requirements.
Ventilation
This tent has plenty of mesh for airflow but in view of its full fly, vents are essential to fight condensation if you have to keep all panels closed. So they have added several vents on the two narrower sides, this allows for cross ventilation and should work well to get rid of vapor. There is nothing one could object to such a design.
Other features
- Heavy-duty carry bag with compression straps and ID label.
- E-cable zippered port.
- O-ring on the ceiling for lantern attachment.
- Storage pocket on the wall.
- Guylines and stakes are included.
The price
This tent is currently on the market with the price available in the link below. So as of the moment of writing this text, it is a bit expensive but you will see below some of its competitors with aluminum poles that are much more expensive. This is a new tent on the market and the price may drop later. Note also that this is an Amazon Prime product so you can have it shipped for free.
