Snow Peak Living Lodge M

Last Modified: 03/02/2024

The Snow Peak Living Lodge M is a huge 4-season structure supported by aluminum poles, with an inner tent and a full coverage fly that creates a large porch with vestibules.

Key features & benefits

  • Cabin style tent with a full coverage fly.
  • Footprint included.
  • Suitable for all seasons.
  • Very tall.
  • Huge living space/porch.
  • Strong aluminum poles.
  • Incredibly durable fabric.

What this is about

Here you have the smaller of the two tents from a series which Snow Peak launched recently. In my separate text you have its larger cousin the Snow Peak Living Lodge L described in detail. So this is again a sort of a cabin-type non-freestanding construction that includes a huge shell/fly, and a large inner tent.

As you know, cabin-type tents are with steep and sometimes completely vertical walls, but here you have walls that are angled outwards, see the picture:

The floor plan below gives some details so you can have some idea of what this tent offers. They make the base oval and this is the same design in many of their tents, with the idea of less wind resistance.

Obviously, this is a very tall tent and you can see its peak heights, so it is included in my list of very tall camping tents. There is an inner tent (the gray area in the pictures above), and you have a huge porch in front of it. The porch is floorless but there is a vestibule that protects the area from the front. The same angled vestibule design you have on the rear side. This porch (living area) can be understood as an extra room.

You have 4 huge windows on the sides (two are visible in the picture below), they are double layer with mesh and with inner panels.

Note that the inner tent also has two large double-layer windows that match the two windows on the back side of the fly in the picture below. The inner tent’s doors are also two-layer type so you have plenty of ventilation from all sides.

You have already seen in one of the pictures above that the porch walls are rolled up, but this can be done in various ways presented in the pictures:

Here the front vestibule is party open.
Here the front vestibule is party open.
Porch with one wall only.
Porch with one wall only.
All porch walls rolled up.
All porch walls rolled up.

In view of so many variants and because of such a great porch, I have included this tent in my list of best cabin tents with a porch.

When the vestibules and fly windows are closed, you have vents on the top of the roof above the vestibules, one on each side of the tent. One is visible in the pictures above. This makes it different from the mentioned Living Lodge L where you have 2 vents on each side.

What is included

The package includes the following elements:

  • Fly.
  • Inner tent.
  • Ground sheet.
  • 3 Main poles.
  • 6 Side poles.
  • 10 Pegs.
  • 8 Ropes with a stopper.
  • Loop belt.
  • Carrying case, pole case, and peg case.
  • Seam sealer.

Note that you need 10 extra pegs (sold separately) for basic setup. This is very surprising in view of the price of this tent. In any case, they recommend 6 pegs with a length of 25 cm or more, and 4 pegs with a length of 35 cm or more.

Materials

The poles & pegs: The tent is supported by 3 vertical poles in the middle with 30 mm diameter, and with 6 angled poles on the sides with 17.5 mm diameter. This is a 6061 aluminum alloy.

There are 10 duralumin pegs in the package, and they are 23 cm long. As mentioned above, they do not provide enough stakes for the ropes.

The fabric: The fly is something rarely seen, this is a 300D polyester Oxford, with a PU coating and 2000 mm minimum waterproof rating, and on the outer side it is Teflon water repellent.

The inner tent is built of a 75D polyester Oxford, Teflon water repellent, and it has its own sewn-in and sealed bathtub floor.

This tent comes with a footprint included, and this is a durable 210D polyester Oxford with a PU coating and 1800 mm minimum waterproof rating.

The inner tent attaches to the shell with buckles. You have a sealer included, and they recommend that you use it at 4 places on the inner tent floor corners, two locations at the roof vents, and several locations on Velcro tabs. You can see this and all other essential details in their nicely prepared  Snow Peak Living Lodge M manual.

Who is this Tent for

Regarding the area, they write that the tent is for 3-5 people. There is no information about the floored area in the inner tent, so my estimate is around 76 ft² (7 m²). The dimensions of the inner tent (the gray area in the floor plan shown previously in the text) are such that it can easily accommodate up to 5 sleeping pads. But I see the tent as perfect for 4 users and this is how I rate it below.

There is a large porch and vestibules on both sides. So again, they do not provide the numbers for the covered space, and my rough estimate is 163 ft² (15.1 m²). So this is a huge living area and you can keep here all your camping furniture and gear. Together with the inner tent this makes incredible 239 ft² (22.1 m²).

Regarding seasons & climate, this is a tent for all seasons and for any climate. It is perfectly ventilated if you use it in a warm environment. On the other hand, all its windows and doors are fully closable, and this is what you need in a cold climate.

The inner tent is far under the fly which has an incredible denier value and a great waterproof rating. So you have all protection that a tent can provide.

Regarding the weight, the tent is heavy, it weighs 52.9 lb (24 kg). But you have seen its dimensions, plus its durable materials, plus its included footprint. The packed size is also not so great, but this is expected from such a tent. This is car camping shelter, so the weight and the packed size are not really a big deal.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

So this Snow Peak Living Lodge M is incredibly impressive in many ways. It offers lots of very functional and fully protected space. The waterproof rating is great, the fabric is incredibly durable, you have a footprint included, and the craftsmanship is at the highest level. Plus you have their lifetime warranty. Fully recommended. It is included in my list of best family camping tents for 4 people.

Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all the tents here in the site so that you can easily compare, and note again that I rate it as a 4-person tent.

My first tent was the one I used with my wife when we went on our honeymoon. In fact, you can see it in About page here in the site. Read More…

No mention of insect mesh or protection if on doesn’t want to close all the doors.

Hi, the best feature of Snow Peak tents is ventilation. So you have plenty of mesh everywhere, including both inner doors. I have added a sentence, thank you for pointing this out.
