Naturehike Air 12 Y Inflatable Tent with Stove Jack: A Fair & Comprehensive Assessment

Last Modified: 01/10/2024

The ‎Naturehike Air 12 Y Inflatable tent with stove jack is a unique glamping cotton canvas shelter with two rooms, excellent ventilation, ready for a wood burning camping stove, and suitable for all seasons.

Key features & benefits

  • Unique cabin type tent.
  • 2 Rooms.
  • Inflatable air beams for support.
  • Integrated stove jack.
  • Breathable cotton canvas tent.
  • 3 Wall windows.
  • 2 Skylight windows.
  • 1 Door.
  • Floorless living room.
  • 3 Aluminum awning poles included.

Overview

Here you have a totally unique design. The tent is of a cabin type with completely vertical walls and a very specific roof structure. It can be described as fully freestanding.

The peak height is impressive 78.7 inches (200 cm), but from the picture below you realize that the wall on one side is quite low:

There are two rooms here; the inner floored room is on the right in the floor plan above. The room on the left is floorless, so it can be described as a vestibule as well. In the picture below you can get some idea of how it looks inside.

I have no idea what they mean by the number 12 and the letter Y in the name. This brand typically uses such numbers to describe the inner area, but you will see below that the area is different here.

Air beams instead of solid poles

For tent support you have massive inflatable beams that are in their sleeves. This air beam frame is what makes the tent self-supporting.

Note that the tent comes with a manual pump included, you can see it below. With this, one person can erect the tent in 5 minutes easily. This is why I have included it in my list of best inflatable tents.

Note that there is a long roof beam on the top that bridges the tent and make it much more stable, the picture below shows how it looks.

The windows and the door

The tent has one but very large double-layer door visible in the picture below. It has a full size zippered mesh plus a zippered panel so you can use them as it suits you.

There are 3 wall windows in total, one is visible below. All of them are with a fixed mesh plus an inner zippered panel. So you can regulate privacy and air circulation.

But there are also two roof windows, one is visible in the picture below. These are with a translucent solid material, plus a panel.

Integrated stove jack – hot tent

The tent comes ready for a wood burning tent stove, there is a stove jack on the roof, you can see below how it looks with a pipe in place. The mentioned skylight windows are also visible.

Below you can see the stove jack from inside. Note that it is in the floorless room, so when you use a stove you do not have to worry about the floor. Because of it, I have added it to my list of best tents with a stove jack.

Awning

This is yet another great feature of this tent. There is an extra flap that is of the size of the front wall, and you can lift it up and crate the huge awning shown in the picture. For this you have three bonus poles included in the package.

Because of this design I have included it in my list of best canvas tents with an awning.

Materials

The picture below shows all the elements in the package, and you can also see the carry bag dimensions when all is packed. Note that it includes 21 iron stakes that are 25 cm long, and 10 ropes.

The poles: You have only those three awning poles 200 cm long, and they are made of an aluminum alloy. You do not have to use them for just every trip, in particular if you know it will be windy. In this case the awning panel can be rolled up and fixed under the roof.

The fabric: They use a natural cotton here. From some statements found online, its waterproof rating is in the range of 1000-1500 mm. For such a breathable fabric this is a lot if true. I have included it in my list of best canvas tents for camping.

The floor in the inner room is made of a PVC. This material should be fully waterproof. The beams are made of a TPU material. All zippers are YKK, and this is the best you can expect.

Ventilation

The tent has all ventilation features that you need. You have already seen about its breathable fabric and all mesh openings on the walls. Note that the rear windows are partly protected by the roof that extends over them, so you can keep the at least partly open even when it rains.

But they have added two high vents on the narrow sides of the tent, you can see one in the picture. They are with triangular mesh and from outside you have flaps that can be staked out. All in all, ventilation is practically optimal.

Who is it for

Regarding the area, if you search around you will see it described as a tent for up to 8 people. The pictures below which they provide make no sense at all.

Unrealistic sleeping suggestions.
Unrealistic sleeping suggestions.

In the tent as it is, the only area with a full protection is the floored inner room (on the right side in the two pictures above) where there is a place for up to 4 people maximum. In this inner room you have 61.3 ft² (5.7 m²) of space, and its dimensions are such that it can have 4 pads on the floor.

The floorless area (the room on the left side in those two pictures) is a very functional and useful part to be used as a living room, but you have no protection from crawling insects.

In both rooms together you have more than 11 square meters, and the extended awning adds another 7 square meters. So this is plenty of space for up to 4 users, but not for any one more.

Regarding seasons & climate, the describe it as a 4-season tent and I would agree with this. If you use it in winter, it will be better than most of synthetic winter tents.

If you also use a wood burning stove inside, this may even be a pleasant camping experience. But note that the sleeping area is separated, so heating with a stove will not be efficient in this part of the tent.

On the other hand, the tent is perfectly ventilated for use in any other season. The natural canvas is better than any synthetic-made tent for summer camping, this is a fact.

The shape is boxy, so not ideal for very windy places, but those beams can never break, and you have enough stakes and ropes to secure it properly. Observe also those three integrated straps on the rear side.

Regarding the weight, this tent is very heavy with its 70.5 lb (32 kg). In fact, the numbers on Amazon are even higher but they are likely wrong.

The reason for this weight is the canvas fabric which is thick and strong, then there is that extra awning flap with its enormous 7 square meters size, plus all the beams with their sleeves and zippers. So the tent is easy to pitch but not to carry anywhere, you should use it close to your car.

The packed size is also enormous, and the reasons behind this are the same. So make sure you have plenty of space in the car for transportation and also for storage at home. I have a tent of a similar packed size and I transport it in a roof box.

Such a weight may be a real issue when you need to dry the tent after your trip, it needs lots of space, and you will have to turn it a couple of times, so dealing with all this may be hard.

Regarding the price, this is a glamping tent, not for people on a budget, please follow the link below to check for updates.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

In conclusion, the Naturehike Air 12 Y Inflatable Tent with Stove Jack stands out as a distinctive and innovative option in the world of camping shelters. Its unique cabin-type design, supported by inflatable air beams, creates a spacious and self-supporting structure.

The inclusion of a floorless living room, integrated stove jack, and an expansive awning with bonus poles adds versatility to the camping experience. The breathable cotton canvas material, along with well-designed ventilation features, contributes to a comfortable and adaptable shelter suitable for various weather conditions.

However, the tent comes with some trade-offs. Its considerable weight and bulky packed size make it less suitable for backpacking, requiring proximity to a vehicle for transportation. The sleeping capacity advertised for up to 8 people seems optimistic, with practical protection and space considerations limiting it to a comfortable 4-person occupancy.

Despite these drawbacks, the Naturehike Air 12 Y Inflatable Tent excels in providing a glamping experience, particularly for those seeking a four-season tent with the option of a wood-burning stove. As with any product, individual preferences and specific needs will play a crucial role in determining its suitability for prospective buyers. The tent is added to my list of best tents for 4 people.

Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all of them here in the site so that you can easily compare. Note, I rate it as a 4-person tent.
