Eureka Space Camp 6 Person Tent – Strong Aluminum Poles

Last Modified: 12/03/2023

Eureka Space Camp 6 Person Tent is a dome-style double-layer tent with aluminum poles, a full-coverage fly, numerous storage pockets, gear lofts, and an easy setup.

Key features

  • Aluminum poles.
  • 2 Doors & 2 Vestibules.
  • 10 Pockets.
  • 2 Gear lofts.
  • Full coverage fly.

What this is about

This Space Camp 6 is a completely new tent on the market which Eureka launched for the season 2019, so this is a new series which includes this 6-person tent and smaller 4-person tent.

This is a double-layer tent with a full-coverage fly and I have included it in my list of tents with full fly. The structure is dome type but with pre-bent poles, so the legs poles are almost straight and the tent offers lots of headroom. You also have brow poles that make the doors vertical. So the structure looks almost like a cabin tent.

The tent is not freestanding strictly speaking, but this is only because of the two vestibules that need to be staked down to be functional. However, you can certainly use it and stay the night without staking the vestibules. The fly attaches with buckles to the corners and with Velcro tabs to the poles above.

The main door with dual zipper allows for various configurations.

Who is it for

Regarding the area: This is a big tent and you will hear this also in the video below. But the declared capacity is 6 people, yet the floor area is only 83 ft² (7.7 m²) and this means 13.8 ft² (1.28 m²) per person. You also have two vestibules which add lots of useful protected area for storage, so the total area becomes 122.5 ft² (11.4 m²) and per person this gives 20.4 ft² (1.9 m²). Nevertheless, I would say this tent is for a maximum of 4 people, perfect for parents with one or two small kids, or just for couples who want lots of space. See the floor plan and the dimensions:

Floor plan and dimensions.

Regarding seasons & climate: The inner tent is with lots of mesh and it is fully covered with the fly. The waterproof rating is quite typical and good enough, the poles are thick aluminum, the ventilation is excellent. In view of all these features, this is a tent for 2 – 3 seasons, and it offers full protection from elements. It is not the best option for a cooler climate, and if this is what you need check my list with cold weather tents.

Regarding the weight & packed size: You will see in the comparison table below that it is lighter than some of the competitors built in the same style, it weighs 16 lb 1 oz (7.28 kg). Its packed size is also very good (L x D) 25 x 10 inches (64 x 25 cm). So it is portable but not something for the trail. If this is what you need, check my list with backpacking 6-person tents.

This Space Camp 6 tent can be transported in various ways, even on a bicycle, see how it looks when packed, you have a strap to carry it short distances on the shoulder:

Materials & Construction

The poles

There are 2 main poles that create the dome plus two short brow poles above the doors. The former are 13 mm and the latter 11 mm, both 7000-series aluminum. They attach to the tent through a combination of clips and hubs, and grommets in the corners.

The fabric

The inner tent is a 68D 185T polyester taffeta and the fly is with the same denier and tenacity values but you have 1500 mm coating. The mesh areas are 40D nylon no-see-um. The floor is also 68D 185T polyester taffeta but with an 1800 mm waterproof rating.

The inner doors are huge and both the same size and the design. But the vestibules are asymmetric; one is with dual zippers that allow for an awning configuration, and the other is with a central zipper shown below.

The back vestibule is with one zipper.
The back vestibule is with one zipper.

Ventilation

There should be no issues with ventilation, the design you have here is excellent. The fly is with three vents, and one of the vestibules allows for a low vent configuration shown below. The mesh on the inner tent is there for ventilation as well, so nothing is missing here.

Other features

  • 10 Storage pockets.
  • 2 Gear hammocks, see the picture.
  • Lantern ring on the top.
Two gear lofts are in the package.

Here is a video by the manufacturer, the 4-person version is presented, so see the features they are the same as in the 6-person tent:

It is best that you see this video by the manufacturer, this is again the 4-person version but the procedure is the same. One person can set this tent up easily.

Eureka! Space Camp Tent 6 vs Competitors

I have decided to show you this Space Camp 6 tent side by side with two top-notch tents from other brands. As you see it is much lighter but it offers less space as well. The NTK Omaha 6 tent is far more affordable but see its poles and weight. In any case, please follow the links for more details.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

So in the summary, I wish to stress that this Eureka Space Camp 6 Person Tent is really nicely built. It comes with quality poles and a full fly, there are so many pockets and gear lofts to organize life in the tent. I would only ignore the declared capacity which is unrealistic, but this is typical for such tents. If you can afford it you will have a great camping tent.

Obviously, there are more affordable options on the market, but note that here you have aluminum poles and the tent is very functional. Please see how I rate it, the same criteria are used for all the tents in the site:

My first tent was the one I used with my wife when we went on our honeymoon. In fact, you can see it in About page here in the site. Read More…
