Key features & benefits

  • Dome type tent.
  • Freestanding.
  • Very tall.
  • Pipe jack.
  • 4 Doors.
  • Huge porch.
  • Extended awning doubles as projector screen.
  • For all seasons.
  • Very thick aluminum poles.
  • Cable port.

What is in the name

Actually, there is a lot. On their site it is with the name as in the title above, but they sell it in Amazon in a group of tents under the name Massif Hot Tent with Stove Jack.

But you will find it on AliExpress also under the names Blue Ridge Mountain Hiking Trail/Ozark Trailstar Tent.

Regarding the number 10.9 in the name, it indicates the total covered area in square meters, but more about this below.

The tent is with a massive shell that protects an inner tent which is a sleeping area, and it creates a large floorless room which you can describe as a porch. They call it ‘hall’ as you realize from the official name.

They built it as a slightly extended dome type structure, the picture below shows the areal view. It is completely freestanding and self-supporting, so you can move it short distances and rotate even after the poles are in place.

But note that the poles are pre-bent, and this add more volume inside than in standard dome tent, and you realize this from the picture below.

For a dome tent, it is very tall, no less than 78.74 inches (200 cm) peak height. With such a height and pre-bent frame, you also have a stand-up height in a bigger part of the tent.

Integrated pipe jack

The aerial picture above reveals an important feature on the roof, the pipe jack. Below you can see more closely how it looks. When not in use, you can keep it closed, the flap for this is in place.

So the tent comes ready for a wood-burning tent stove which you place in the front floorless room as you see in the picture:

Because of this feature, I have included it in my list of best tents with a pipe jack.

The doors and windows

This is again something luxurious, the tent has no less than four doors. Those on the front and on the rear side are double-layer, with a separate zippered mesh and zippered panels.

The doors on the longer sides are with mesh on the upper part, paired with zippered panels for protection and privacy. With this you have windows on them when needed.

But there are also two separate double later windows, you can see more in the picture:

The inner tent is with two double layer D-shaped doors. Below you can see the door that matches the external door on the shell:

On the other two sides of the inner tent you have double layer windows. They match the windows on the shell tent. Below you can see how this looks when panels are rolled, and you have views everywhere around.

Awning

There is more related to the door design. The main front door panel and the rear door panel allow for an awning configuration with the help of two poles (not included).

But it also features a detachable extended awning flap shown in the picture below. With this you create more shade and covered area for sitting outside. The picture shows how it looks:

This extended panel can also serve as a projector screen for outdoor movie nights as shown in the picture:

Materials & other details

The tent comes with the following elements:

  • 1 × Rainfly.
  • 1 × Inner Tent.
  • 3 × Tent Pole.
  • 16 × Tent Stakes.
  • 6 × Wind Ropes.
  • 1 × Storage Bag

All of them are shown in the pictures:

The poles & stakes: You will be shocked when you see the poles, they are extraordinary thick and strong shock-corded 7001 series aluminum alloy tubes. They create the mentioned dome type configuration.

Note that there is a version on the market with the third short pole which is for the roof only, it lifts the sides and make the doors vertical. But this is a smaller tent and should not be mixed with the one presented here.

Observe that the poles are added from outside, there are long sleeves on the roof. This is very useful when you have to pitch the tent during rain. You can do all the job and the inner will remain protected. This great feature is typically described as a dry setup design.

The pictures below show how to set the tent up, one person can do the job easily in just a few minutes.

Below you can see a few details, the clips on the sides of the tent and a stiffener that keeps the vent open.

The stakes are also made of a 7001 aluminum alloy and they are of a good quality, I have the same in several of my tents. Though the color is not my favorite, see how they look:

The fabric: The shell tent is made of a 75D 290T polyester with an impressive 3000 mm waterproof rating, so I would describe it as moderately durable. They use a far more durable material in their Naturehike Village 13 Instant Tent.

They have added a silver coating on its underside, for extra UV protection and also to reflect heat back to occupants. This may be useful when you heat the tent with a wood stove.

The inner tent is a combination of a B3 polyester mesh and a 240T polyester pongee, so this is a strong material. Its floor is bathtub type, and it is made of a more durable 150D polyester Oxford with a 4000 mm waterproof rating.

They write that the pipe jack fabric is a heat-resistant Aramid.

Other details

There is a lantern hanging loop at the highest point on the ceiling, the picture below, and you also have large mesh puches to keep your stuff off the floor.

You also have an E-cable port for the inner tent, the picture below.

Different variants of the Naturehike Dune 10.9 One Room and One Hall Tent

From what I have seen online, in some parts of the world they sell it with an extra roof cover. I am also pretty sure that there is a version with solid windows.

Ventilation

With mesh doors on all four sides, plus two separate mesh windows, this tent offers the best possible air cross flow. The inner tent is with mesh ceiling so vapor can easily escape.

They have added two roof vents (one visible in the picture above), so you can keep them open to reduce condensation. The inner tent doors and windows can be kept with mesh whenever you need maximum ventilation and when you are not cold.

I would say that regarding ventilation, there is nothing to object, you have in place all that is needed. They describe it as a 5-sided ventilation, and it is indeed so.

Please see a bit more in this video:

Who is the Naturehike Dune 10.9 Tent for

Regarding the area, the shell tent is of a size of a 6-person tent. The total covered area is 115 ft² (10.8 m²), so strictly speaking it is not 10.9 as the name of the tent suggests, but this not a big deal really.

The inner tent occupies only half of it. They give the picture with three pads on the floor, and this is realistic. But the official capacity is four people, so you could indeed place four pads if you orient them differently, see the pictures and the dimensions.

Floor plan and dimensions.
Floor plan and dimensions.

The inner room area is 52 ft² (4.8 m²), and you also have 61.4 ft² (5.7 m²) under the porch. I see it perfect for couples, but a family with with two small kids can easily fit in and still use the wood stove in the living room.

Regarding seasons & climate, if you use this tent for a warm weather camping, you have plenty of options for ventilation. On the other hand, its waterproof rating is such that you will surely be safe and dry no matter of weather conditions.

In a cooler environment, you can close almost everything. Note however that the ceiling of the inner tent is not closable. Observe that it has a perimeter skirt to prevent cold drafts.

If you use the tent for winter camping, you can heat it with a stove, and here again bear in mind it is almost completely closable.

The tent is tall but its profile is quite smooth, and the frame is very strong. So there is no doubt it will work great even in very windy places.

All in all, this is a very versatile tent for year-round use. It includes a stove jack for winter camping and a snow skirt to prevent wind and snow buildup.

Party mode: If you remove the inner tent, you have a canopy tent covering an area of about 115 ft² (10.8 m²). The picture below shows how this may look:

Observe that with the extended awning you get far more area in the shade, and which is more or less protected even from the rain. The floor plan of such a covered area in this case looks loke this:

Regarding the weight, with its 26 lb (11.8 kg), it could be described as moderately heavy. But bear in mind its height and volume. On the other hand, this is a tent for car camping so the weight is not really important.

The packed size is such that it can be described as a bit bulky, the dimensions are shown below.

However, remember that this tent has 10 windows and doors on the outer and inner tent, and all of them are double layer. This adds both weight and bulk. So the weight and packed size are justified and expected for a tent with such incredibly luxurious features.

The carry bag is truly nicely designed, it has two carry straps and compression straps, plus grab-straps on the two narrow sides.

It has a burrito style access on the top, with a cinch cord and a flap that closed the bag. It opens wide, so it is easy to pack the tent back. In addition, you will notice setup instructions sewn-in inside of the bag.

Regarding the price, I would say it is a bit pricy, but this is a quality and versatile tent. Check the links below for updates and compare the prices.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

In summary, the Naturehike Dune 10.9 One Room and One Hall Tent is a versatile, high-quality option for year-round car camping.

Its robust aluminum frame, excellent ventilation, and thoughtful features like a pipe jack and snow skirt make it suitable for diverse climates and weather conditions.

With a spacious interior, stand-up height, and a unique combination of functional and luxurious touches such as the awning and projector screen, it offers great utility and comfort.

While slightly heavy and bulky, its ease of setup, durable materials, and ability to transform into a canopy for group gatherings further enhance its value.

Despite being on the pricier side, this tent delivers on performance, making it a worthwhile investment for campers seeking reliability and flexibility. I have included it in my list of best dome type tents, and best tents with a full coverage fly.
