The list includes the following two types:
- Simple dome tents. Here you can have a partial coverage fly, and such tents sometimes have multiple windows, this is its best feature. Those are tents for summer camping. The other type are tents with a full-coverage fly, and here you normally do not have windows, but they have vestibules that add lots of protected area to store your gear and to use it for cooking or for sitting.
- Extended dome tents. Here you can have an extension on one side or on two sides. Because of this, such tents can have multiple rooms.
- Inflatable tents with air beams. This is something rare. There are many tunnel-type tents with such air beams but here you have a dome tent, completely unique.
All the tents in the list are presented in detail in my separate full reviews, so here I give only some basic information about them.
1. Jack Wolfskin Grand Illusion IV

This Jack Wolfskin Grand Illusion IV tent is a mix of an extended dome and a tunnel tent and a true two-wall tent. This means that you have an inner dome with full taffeta and a huge fly that covers the inner dome tent and creates two vestibules. It comes with top quality DAC aluminum poles and a high waterproof rating, and I have included it in my lists of tents with full-coverage fly and also to the list of cold weather tents for camping.
You have 53 ft² (5 m²) of the inner floored area, but the total protected covered space is 104.3 ft² (9.77 m²), and its official capacity is 4 people. The tent has 2 doors and 2 solid windows, and it is nicely ventilated with its 2 roof vents. The weight 14.44 lb (6.55 kg).
2. MOON LENCE Camping Tent 6 Person

This tent offers the inner floor area of 62.4 ft² (5.8 m²) so you realize why it is in such a position here in the list. But observe also that this is an ultralight structure that weighs only 9.04 lb (4.1 kg). This is why I have included it also to my list of best 6-person backpacking tents. Note it is without vestibule and this is also partly behind such a weight.
The tent is an ultra-packable dome with one door and two windows, and it is very easy to use. The poles are fiberglass and this is surprising in view of its weight. Note that it comes with a huge back vent close to the floor, so it is nicely ventilated. It is also incredibly affordable.
3. NTK Indy GT XL 5/6 Person Tent

This NTK Indy GT XL 6 Person Tent is an extended dome and this is why it is here. As you realize, it is so high in the list because of its modest inner area which is only 62.4 ft² (5.8 m²). But it has a huge floored porch as well with its 49 ft² (4.5 m²). So it offers far more comfort than you might expect by judging only its inner tent.
This is a true 3-season camping tent with a full-coverage fly and I have included it in my list of best tents with a full fly. It has 2 large doors and it allows for the awning configuration shown in the picture. The awning poles are included. Because of the mentioned porch, it looks like a 2-room tent.
The poles are fiberglass and the waterproof rating is huge 2500 mm, as typical for all the tents from this brand. Note also that this is an Amazon’s Choice product and the price is excellent.
4. Mobihome 6-Person Tent Family Camping Quick Setup

The Mobihome 6-Person Tent Family Camping Quick Setup is an extended dome structure as you realize from the picture. This is also a semi-instant construction. So the central dome is with a pre-attached frame that opens like an umbrella, and there are two extra poles to be added on the sides.
The tent is oval in shape and although it looks big, it is quite compact with the dimensions 13.5 x 7 ft (410 x 210 cm) and the area that is around 75 ft² (7 m²). There are four windows and one door. The poles are fiberglass and the tent is quite lightweight with its 14.3 lb (6.5 kg). Note also that it is incredibly affordable.
5. MOON LENCE Instant Pop Up Tent 4-5 Person

This MOON LENCE Instant Pop Up Tent is a very pleasant dome tent with its 5 windows and one door, and it is fully freestanding. The base is a pentagon shape supported by its fiberglass poles.
As its name suggests, this is also an instant tent so setting it up is incredibly easy. The tent is very light, it weighs 10.25 lb (4.65 kg). The floor area is 75 ft² (7 m²). It is very suitable for people who change the place frequently. You would want to know that it is incredibly affordable.
6. Marmot Orbit 6P Tent

This Orbit 6 is everything but an ordinary dome tent. In fact this is an extended dome where the extension is far bigger than the main dome part. The inner area is only 77.5 ft² (7.2 m²), but you have a huge porch so the total protected area is 182.5 ft² (16.9 m²), and this gives 30.4 ft² (2.8 m²) per person. So although it is high here in the list, it offers far more space than many other tents.
You have the top quality materials used in its construction, the poles are DAC aluminum, and the fabric is polyester. The waterproof rating is 1500 mm for the fly and 2000 mm for the floor. The tent is with a full-coverage fly so you have complete protection from elements. Please read more in my full review.
7. ALPS Mountaineering Taurus 5 Outfitter Tent

Here you have one of the most typical tents in the dome style, just two simple poles that create the main frame. So this is a 5-person tent and the inner area is 80 ft² (7.44 m²). The tent is also with the full coverage fly so you have two vestibules that add 32 ft² (3.25 m²). This means that the total protected area is 112 ft² (10.7 m²), and per person you have 22.4 ft² (2.14 m²).
The materials are very durable, you have the floor with 210D nylon and the fly is 75D polyester, while the poles are super durable aluminum.
The waterproof rating is the same for the floor and the fly, it is 1500 mm and you will not need more with such a construction. This tent will protect you in any weather conditions in a 3-season use. Please see more in my full review.
8. Kelty Trail Ridge 6 Person Tent with Footprint

You see already from the title what makes the difference between this and many other tents here in the list; it comes with a footprint included. Though it is not the only tent with this addition. There is also the Trail Ridge 8 tent described here in the site, with the same features so there is no need to present it separately.
The tent is with the floor area of 82 ft² (7.62 m²) which is not much, but you have two nice symmetric vestibules that add 34 ft² (3.2 m²) of the protected area. The setup is very easy, the structure is freestanding, the tent is lightweight enough to be carried on the trail, and it comes also with a gear loft as yet another bonus.
The fly is a full coverage type so you have full protection with this tent. The tent is with the stargazing fly design, so you can fix it so that you enjoy the stars during the night.
9. Big Agnes Bunk House 6 Tent

In this tent you have an extended dome of a particular type. One of the extensions is a part of the inner tent, and one is an extension of the vestibule. The tent offers 83 ft² (7.7 m²) of the inner floor area, but there are also two large vestibules so the total protected area is 139 ft² (12.9 m²).
There are two doors and two asymmetric vestibules that allow for the awning configuration shown in the picture above. You also have top-quality aluminum poles and a full-cover fly, this is why it is included in my list of best tents with a full fly.
The tent offers several different configurations, including a unique shelter mode configuration, and it comes with a unique carry bag design. Note also this is a very tall tent with 81 inches (203 cm) peak height.
10. MSR Habitude 6-Person Camping Tent

This MSR Habitude 6-Person Camping Tent is a top-quality tent with aluminum poles, it is portable and lightweight, and very easy to use. This is a dome structure and this is the reason for having it here in the lits.
But this is also a full-coverage fly tent for full protection in a 3-season use. This is why I have included it also in my list of best full-coverage fly tents. You have one very tall door and one huge vestibule. It weighs 14 lb (6.35 kg), so you can carry it on some shorter tours. The tent offers 83 ft² (7.7 m²) of space in the inner area and also 13.8 ft² (1.28 m²) under its vestibule.
11. Marmot Limestone 6 Tent

The Limestone 6 tent is a simple freestanding dome, but the two main poles are designed so that it looks almost like a cabin tent. So the walls are tall and straightened and you have 76 inches (193 cm) of the peak height. In addition to this, there are two short poles that go around the ceiling area and pull the walls up and make them vertical. So although the floor area is rather small, only 83.3 ft² (7.75 m²), this is a tent with lots of headroom.
This livability is further increased with the two asymmetric vestibules that add extra 27 ft² + 12 ft² (2.5 m² + 1.1 m²) of the protected area. The tent is with two very large doors and with a full-coverage fly, so you have full protection from elements for 3-season camping. Marmot is a top brand, this is a quality tent, and the price is to match all this.
12. Mountainsmith Conifer 5 Plus Tent

The Conifer 5+ is what its name says, a 5-person dome-style tent. This is a very versatile item, lightweight enough to be carried as a hiking tent, and nicely packable so that you can transport it even on a bicycle.
The tent is with a very good waterproof rating, you have 2000 mm in the fly and 5000 mm in the floor. All quality materials are used here, the tent has been on the market for many years, and this is a world-renown brand.
On the first look the size may not look so impressive, you have 84 ft² (7.75 m²). But note that you also have two vestibules areas with 33 ft² (3.1 m²). In fact, one of the vestibules is with its extra pole and it looks like a porch. This is why the tent is an extended dome type. Please see more in my detailed review.
13. REI Base Camp 6 Tent

When you see this tent without its fly, you realize that more dome-shaped it cannot be. This is a strongly built dome structure with aluminum poles that create 7 cross points, this makes the tent stable in any weather conditions. It is built as a true 2-layer tent with a full fly and inner taffeta with floor vents and roof vents. It is included in my list of best tents with a full fly. Because of its design, it is included also in my list of tents for cold weather camping.
You have a floored area of 83.7 ft² (7.78 m²), but there are also two vestibules that add 27 + 17 ft² (2.5 + 1.6 m²). This makes the total protected space of 127.7 ft² (11.9 m²). The tent is for 6 people and this is large enough. There are many storage pouches inside. The weight is 20 lb 10 oz (9.36 kg), so this is not a tent to carry long distances, it is a basecamp tent as its name says.
14. Eureka Midori Basecamp 6 Tent

I guess more simple a dome tent cannot be, so what you have here are just two poles that create an X-shape structure and the inner tent is attached to it. The tent is fully freestanding and it is also with the full coverage fly. So although the waterproof rating may look modest, only 1500 mm, this is a true 3-season tent. This and the affordable price make it very popular.
The inner area is not so great for the declared 6 people capacity; you have only 85 ft² (7.9 m²), but see also its vestibules which add 38 ft² (3.5 m²). So the vestibules add a lot to the livability of this tent. But note that you do not have any window here, this is why you have such a fly, so if you want something with windows, check the Alprang trent below.
15. Kelty Tallboy 6 Person Tent

This Kelty Tallboy 6 Person Tent is a new tent from this brand, launched for the season 2020. So this is a very simple and easy to use dome structure with one door and one window. The tent is fully freestanding, and this means that the fly attaches to its corners so you can move it around even when the fly is on.
But this also implies that there are no vestibules for storage. The poles are fiberglass, and it comes with a great price tag. The weight is 14 lb 1 oz (6.38 kg) and the floor area is 86 ft² (8 m²). So how tall is this Tallboy 6? Well, you have 72 inches (183 cm) peak height.
16. Mountain Hardwear Optic 6 Tent

The Optic 6 tent provides 86 ft² (8 m²) of the inner area, and there are also two asymmetric vestibules that add some covered space. So the total protected area is 112.6 ft² (10.5 m²).
This is an unusual design with the doors positioned next to each other around the same corner and you have a large angle for views. The two vestibules are asymmetric and as you see from the picture, one allows for the awning configuration. All quality materials are used in the construction so you have DAC DA-17 aluminum poles and the waterproof rating for both the fly and the floor is impressive, 3000 mm. Please read more in the link below.
17. The North Face Wawona 6 Tent

The inner area which this Wawona 6 tent offers looks modest, so you have only 86.11 ft² (8 m²). But you have one huge porch which looks like a room, plus yet another vestibule, and they offer 44.7 ft² (4.2 m²) + 21 ft² (2 m²) of extra space.
This is a single layer design and an extended dome as you realize from the picture. You have no less than 3 external doors and also 3 internal doors. There are two large mesh windows with panels and the tent is equipped with two huge vents on the roof. This is a tent for 3-season use and for practically any climate. Please read more in my full review.
18. Kelty Wireless Tent 6 Person

This Kelty Wireless 6 tent is a typical dome tent so it deserves to be here in the list. It offers an inner area of 87.2 ft² (8.1 m²), but the tent is with a full-coverage fly, and the fly creates two vestibules. So you have extra 32 ft² (3 m²) under the two vestibules combined, and this is a useful space to store your camping gear.
The tent is from their new series launched for the season 2020. It is surprisingly tall for such a type with a peak height of 76 inches (193 cm). The weight is 17 lb 3 oz (7.8 kg).
It comes with a feature unique to Kelty, and they call it Quick Corners design. They have added some sleeves that keep the poles in place and they will not jump out when you go to the other side to fix the pole in another similar corner.
19. Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack

Here you have this Russian-Bear Hot Tent with Stove Jack which is an extraordinary dome structure. It can accommodate up to 5 people and the area is 88 ft² (8.17 m²). The tent is heavy and it weighs 55.1 lb (25 kg) but you should see what it offers.
This is an instant-setup and also a full double-wall structure suitable for all seasons and all climates. You have two doors and 2 windows, but note that the windows are 5-layer type and the doors are 3-layers. It comes also with an additional removable hinged door.
One of the layers in the windows is a solid PVC layer. But this is not all. It comes with an integrated stove jack and I have added it to my corresponding list of tents with a stove jack. The picture above shows its external ground flap to press with snow and to prevent cold drafts.
It has an awning included, a large gear loft, and several removable storage sets are included. Note also that you can order it together with a wood-burning tent stove.
20. Alprang Camping Tent 6

The Alprang 6 is a very simple tent with an easy setup, just two main poles that create the usual X-shape structure. The tent is with a partial coverage fly and due to this you do not have any vestibule or porch, just a small brim above the door. But you have a window on the front plus a large door with its own window, so the tent really looks cool.
The declared capacity is 6 people, but you have 90 ft² (8.4 m²) of the floor area, so this means 15 ft² (1.4 m²) per person. This is not a lot of the space, though 6 people can indeed sleep on the floor.
The waterproof rating for the fly is really impressive 3000 mm, so although this is not a full fly, this tent might do well even in more severe conditions. Please read more in my full review.
21. Big Agnes Tensleep Station 6 Tent

The floor area of this tent is only 90 ft² (8.4 m²) and this is why it is so high in the list here, but note that you also have two very useful vestibules that add lots of space and functionality to this tent. In fact, those vestibules are its best part. They allow for different configurations and you can see one of them in the picture above.
The tent is also a full coverage type, so the mighty fly will protect you in any weather conditions. You have two doors and the tent is with a roll-up feature so you can enjoy the views around when the weather is good.
Because of the extra pole added in front of one of the doors, the tent is basically an extended dome type, but you realize that this extension only adds the space to the vestibule and not to the inner area. For the same reason, it is not completely freestanding.
22. Mountainsmith Cottonwood 6P Tent

Here you have a nice dome-style type tent with a full-coverage fly and it is lightweight enough even to be carried on the trail. It weighs only 13 lb 5 oz (6.04 kg), and its capacity is 6 people. This is why I have included it in my list of best 6-person backpacking tents.
You have 90 ft² (8.4 m²) of the inner area plus a porch or vestibule area which is 29.5 ft² (2.7 m²). The waterproof rating is excellent, so you have 2000 mm for the fly and 5000 mm for the floor. The poles are 3 in total and aluminum. Bear in mind also that this is a very reliable brand so you can be sure about the quality of this item.
There are some unique features here, the tent is with windows on the fly. You should also know that this is a very affordable tent, only $160 as of the moment of writing this text. Please read more in the link below.
23. Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 Tent

This Flying Diamond is an extended dome with an extension on one side so the structure is with 2 rooms. The main dome part is with several poles that cross each other so the structure is very strong and stable. You have 2 doors and 2 vestibules, and the main vestibule allows for several different configurations.
It is incredible to see that this tent has 16 large pockets on the walls, so if you like to stay organized you will not find more in a tent of this type. You have quality materials and workmanship here, the poles are DAC and the fly is full coverage type and with 1500 mm waterproof rating. So you have full protection for 3-season use.
The tent offers 92 ft² (8.5 m²) of the inner floor area, plus 32 ft² (3 m²) under the two vestibules. This all comes at a price, the tent is quite expensive, please follow the link for more details and the price updates.
24. Kelty Discovery 6 Tent

This Kelty Discovery 6 Tent presented here is a simple dome and this is why it is here. This is the new version of the tent that has been on the market for many years. You have a full-coverage fly. The tent offers an inner area of 97.5 ft (9 m²) and 25 ft² (2.3 m²) under its vestibule.
It comes with 2 fiberglass poles and 1 door. Note that there are vents on the fly, you need such a feature with such a full fly. You will want to know that the tent is very affordable.
25. Marmot Halo 6 Person Tent

This Halo 6 is one of the full coverage tents, so the fly goes all the way to the ground and it also creates two vestibules. So the tent offers 96.7 + 64 ft² (9 + 6 m²) of the total protected area.
Although the waterproof rating looks a bit modest, you have 1800 mm, with such a design this is completely enough for 3-season use. The tent is with two large doors and you can create an awning shown in the picture.
The tent packs to a really small size, but it is quite heavy and you have 20 lb 1.3 oz (9.11 kg). So this is a camping tent to be used at places with a motorized access. Marmot is a top brand and this is a very reliable camping tool, please read more in my full review.
26. NTK Cherokee GT 5/6 Person Tent

This NTK Cherokee GT 5 to 6 Person Tent is an easy to use and fully freestanding tent. This is because of its fly which attaches to its corners and there is no vestibule as you see from the picture. But the fly covers its three sides completely, and on the front you have a small awning that protects the door.
The tent is very reliable and lightweight with its 15.21 lb (6.9 kg) of weight. The area is 97 ft² (9 m²) and the tent is tall with a peak height of 68.9 inches (175 cm), but it is very aerodynamic and stable.
The waterproof rating is very good at 2500 mm, and this is a 3-season tent. You will want to know also that this is very affordable.
27. Columbia Modified 6 Person Dome Tent

This Columbia Modified 6 Person Dome Tent is a part of their series of freestanding tents with fiberglass poles, and magnetic door as a unique feature. The tent is very easy to use, versatile, and also very affordable.
You have one door here, the tent weighs 18.4 lb (8.3 kg) and the area is not bad, it offers 99 ft² (9.2 m²), this is why the tent is in such a position here in the list.
28. ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 6 ZF Tent

This ALPS Mountaineering Meramac 6 ZF Tent is a very typical dome structure with its two main poles creating the structure and its partial coverage fly. There are no vestibules and this is why it is a fully freestanding structure and very easy to use. There are two symmetric doors and both with windows, one is visible in the picture above.
They use a very durable fabric so you have a fly which is 75D 185T polyester and with 1500 mm waterproof rating. The floor is extremely thick 210D 110T nylon Oxford with 1500 mm multi-pass urethane coating. The poles are not particularly durable because this is fiberglass.
The weight is 16 lb 14 oz (7.65 kg) and the area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²). The tent is 72 inches (183 cm) high.
29. ALPS Mountaineering Taurus 6 Tent

This Taurus 6 tent offers the inner area of 100 ft² (9.3 m²), and you also have two vestibules which add 45.5 ft² (4.2 m²). This means that the total protected area is 145.5 ft² (13.5 m²). The tent is a simple 2-pole structure with a very easy setup. The poles are fiberglass. You have 2 doors and 2 great size vestibules. One interesting detail is that the fly has two narrow solid windows, you can see one in the picture.
The waterproof rating is 1500 mm for the fly and 2000 mm for the floor and this is all quite durable polyester. With such a full-coverage fly, this tent offers a full protection in a 3-season use. It comes with a great price tag. Please read more in my full review.
30. Bushtec Adventure Alpha Kilo 4000 Canvas 6 Person Bow Tent

This Alpha Kilo 4000 is a dome style tent of a particular type. This is a durable structure with spring steel poles and this is also a canvas tent. The fly which you see in the picture is a partial coverage type and it only protects the roof where you have two vents, but it also creates a pleasant and large awning shown in the picture.
This is an 84 inches (213 cm) tall structure, single room by the design and with a single door plus two side doors. All the openings are with mesh and panels. The tent is designed to be used throughout the year so it is equally good for warm-weather camping and for winter use.
Note that it is very bulky when packed and it is also very heavy, 90 lb (40.8 kg). The declared capacity is 6 people and it offers an area of 100 ft² (9.3 m²). Please follow the link for more.
31. Bushtec Adventure Nomad 6 Person Bow Tent

This tent is very similar to their Kilo 4000 tent but it is much lighter. This is again an incredibly reliable but simple dome structure, a canvas tent for all climates and all weather conditions, a true 4-season tent. I have included it also in my lists of cold weather tents for camping.
You have a strong structure with a spring steel frame, and it has 2 windows with mesh and panels on the sides, and a large door with the same double-layer design. Note also that the tent is very tall, it weighs 18 lb (8.2 kg), and the total floor area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²).
32. Coleman 6 Person Sundome Tent

The Sundome 6 is one of the simplest tents here, a freestanding dome created with two poles. Though there is yet another shorter pole which is there to raise the fly above the door. The fly is a partial coverage type and this is why you have two windows. So this is a very pleasant summer camping tent with a very easy setup, simple to use and lightweight, and with the great packed size so you can transport it even on a bicycle.
The tent is with the floor area of 100 ft² (9.3 m²), so this is quite reasonable, but note that there are no vestibules for gear storage. The peak height is 72 inches (183 cm) which is quite good for such a dome structure. But what makes this tent incredibly popular is its price, you will hardly find anything more affordable.
33. Coleman Longs Peak Fast Pitch Dome Tent 6 Person

As you realize from the picture, this Coleman Longs Peak Fast Pitch Dome Tent 6 Person is a very simple dome-style structure. They built it as a summer camping tent, it is freestanding and very easy to use. This is related to the words Fast Pitch in its name.
The tent is quite lightweight with its 15.3 lb (6.9 kg) of weight, and the area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²). Note that it is high for a dome tent, the peak height is 72 inches (183 cm). You might want to know that it is very affordable.
34. Pacific Pass 6 Person Family Dome Tent

35. Pacific Pass 6 Person Family Dome Tent with Screen Room

As you realize from the name, this Pacific Pass 6 Person Family Dome Tent with Screen Room is a dome tent and this is why it is here, but it is also a screen room tent. The screen room is floored and you have mesh for protection from insects, but it does not offer full protection from the rain.
This is a cool looking tent and well-ventilated. With its weight of 16.5 lb (7.5 kg), it can be described as a lightweight tent. The inner area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²) and the screen room area is around 29 ft² (2.7 m²). You will want to know that it is incredibly affordable.
36. Coleman 8-Person Dark Room Skydome Camping Tent

This Coleman 8-Person Dark Room Skydome Camping Tent is a very typical dome tent with a partial coverage fly. This is what makes it a fully freestanding construction. But you will want to know also that it blocks up to 90% of sunlight. So this is a dark rest tent and this is why it is included also in my list of dark rest tents.
Although this is a simple dome, this is a very tall and pleasant tent with a peak height of 6 ft 4 in (193 cm) and with steep walls. It is very easy to use, and also very affordable. The tent weighs 22.1 lb (10 kg) and it offers an area of 108 ft² (10 m²). The poles are fiberglass.

Yet another peculiar detail here is its hinged door which you can see in the picture above, so this tent is included in my list of tents with hinged doors. Note also that this tent has 3 windows, which is a luxury to have in a dome style tent.
Regarding the floor area, it is not so great for 8 people; you have only 10.4 m² and there are no vestibules here. So it is best to downgrade the capacity by half and you will have a nice summer camping tent. Note also that there is a 6-person version of this tent.

The tent offers a rather modest area of 112 ft² (10.4 m²), so although the declared capacity is 8 people, for a real camping it is best to downgrade this to 4 only. This is also a very affordable tent, and it is most suitable for summer camping. Please read more in my full review.

The inner area is 130 ft² (12 m²) so this is not much, but the vestibule creates an extra 32 ft² (3 m²) of protected space and this means a lot of area for all your gear. The vestibule allows for the awning configuration as one possibility shown in the picture.
The floor is with a 3000 mm rating and the fly is 1500 mm so this should be fine for any weather conditions. You have quality materials here and the poles are also DAC, so the best of the best. But this implies a rather steep price, please see more in my review.

The waterproof rating is 2000 mm and the frame structure is very strong, built from 4 poles that create 5 intersections. So the tent is able to withstand lots of pressure from any side.
But note also that it is unusually tall for a dome tent, with a peak height of 88 inches (224 cm), this might be the reason for the word Titan in the name. This is why I have included it in my list of very tall tents. Note that you have 2 rooms here and no less than 4 doors, quite remarkable features for a dome tent.
The tent is freestanding in the true sense, but it has plenty of guy-out lines to secure it against winds. It is a bit heavy, the weight is 30 lb 4 oz (13.7 kg).
50. Coleman Carlsbad 6 Person Tent

Here you have a really interesting design and a tent rich in features. This is a 2-room structure, so you have an inner room plus a screen room. The total area is 140 ft² (13 m²). The inner room is also with the dark rest design. But this is not all; you also have what they call the fast-pitch design with the hub element pre-attached to the poles so this makes the pitching faster and easier.
The tent is not fully freestanding because of the screen room and its extra pole, this part must be staked to the ground to be fully functional. They do not provide exact numbers for waterproof rating, but this is a summer camping tent and I would not use it in a very severe environment. Please see my full review.
51. Coleman Ridgeline 6 Person Tent

They built this tent originally for the EU market and it has been around for years, so all is known about it. The waterproof rating is huge, and the floor is fully sealed. The poles are fiberglass. 54. Semoo Water Resistant 9-Person 3-Room Family Tent

This is an extended dome type tent, so you have the central area under the dome plus two extensions on the sides. Due to such extensions, you have 3 rooms here and doors are on all four sides.
The tent is large, you have 148 ft² (13.8 m²) of the floor area, but the declared capacity is 9 people, and this implies only 16.4 ft² (1.53 m²) per person. So as usual, downgrade the number of users by half.
This is a summer camping tent with a waterproof rating of 1000 mm, this looks modest but it is quite enough for such a purpose. One important fact to stress here is its incredible price; it is $120 as of the moment of writing this text.
55. NTK Laredo GT 8 to 9 Person Tent

This Laredo GT 8/9 is an extended dome tent with the main dome supported by two poles and two extensions with one loop pole each. This is why it is not freestanding. This is a single room and a single door structure, and you have one mesh window on the door. There is an E-cable port as well. The waterproof rating for the fly is 2500 mm and the floor is tough polyethylene so you have full protection from the elements. The tent weighs 23.59 lb (10.7 kg) and the area is 150 ft² (14.3 m²).

The tent comes with an E-cable port, and it is very affordable as usual with this brand. The tent weighs only 23.1 lb (10.5 kg) and the total inner area is 155 ft² (14.4 m²), so you realize it is almost the same size as the Great Basin tent from the same brand shown below.
57. Wenzel Great Basin 10 Person Tent

This Wenzel Great Basin tent is at such a position in the list because of its large area for a dome tent, 159 ft² (14.8 m²). This is a very affordable extended dome type tent that has been on the market for a number of years already. The declared capacity is 10 people.
The tent is with a single door and it has windows on all sides. Note that the windows are with mesh and with zippered panels. The poles are fiberglass and the tent is with a partial coverage fly. You have an e-cable port, Light Reflection System, and a gear loft is also included. There are two removable dividers, so the tent is formally a 3-room structure.
I see it best suited for summer camping, this is because of the ceiling which is all mesh and this is good for a warm climate. The packed size is 27 x 10.75 x 10.75 inches (69 x 27 x 27 cm) and it weighs 28 lb 2 oz (12.8 kg).
58. Coleman Red Canyon 8 Tent

This Red Canyon is with the declared capacity of 8 people, but it offers 170 ft² (15.6 m²) of the floor area, which means 21.2 ft² (1.95 m²) per person. So they have been more generous with the capacity than the other manufacturers here in the list.
This is a non-freestanding extended dome, so you have two extensions, and this is all to have 3 rooms inside. There is only one entry door and you have windows on the two longer sides. The packed size is really great, but the tent is a bit heavy, you have 22.4 lb (10.16 kg), though this is normal in view of its size.
They do not provide the rating for the material, but this is a summer camping tent. The setup requires some work, there are several poles, two of them are for the side extensions which you see in the picture. Note that this is one of the most affordable tents of this size, so you can imagine it is a very popular item on the market.
You might want to know that they have recently launched yet another very similar tent under the name Coleman Oasis 8-Person Dome Tent so have a look.
59. Mountain Trails Grand Pass 10 Tent

This is a tent with the declared capacity for 10 people, and it is organized in two rooms, so you have a divider in the middle which is removable. There are two front doors so each of the rooms is with its own entrance. As you realize from the picture, the tent has two extensions on the sides, they have added extra poles and this is what creates a relatively large structure with the area of 170 ft² (15.8 m²). For 10 people this is not much so as usual for practically all of the tents here, reduce the number of users for a real summer camping.
The tent is not freestanding, and the fly is partial coverage. They did not provide the waterproof rating, but this is a summer camping tent and I would not use it in severe weather conditions. Note that the tent is truly affordable so if you are on a budget and need something for occasional adventures with your family or with friends, this is the tent to consider.
60. NTK LARAMI GT Tent

This Larami GT tent is an extended dome type tent with a central dome and two extensions supported by extra poles. You have three separate rooms created by removable dividers. It offers 180 ft² (16.2 m²) of the fully covered area and this is an impressive and tall structure with 210 cm peak height.
The fly shown in the picture is almost full coverage type, only the area around the door is without the fly. But the door is waterproof so the tent offers a full protection. The waterproof rating is great 2500 mm and the floor is a thick fully waterproof polyethylene so you have all the protection from elements.
The tent has an E-cable port in the design. The poles are fiberglass and you have them 4 plus a short pole for the brim above the door. The door is designed with the mesh window so you can still have some view around with such a massive fly.
61. Crua Core Dome 6 Person Tent

The Core 6 is something totally unique. This is a tent with inflatable beams, and with many doors. It can be used in a combination that they call the Crua Clan that includes also the Cocoon Insulated tents and the Duo tents.
But you can use this Core 6 tent alone. In such a use, you have 192 ft² (17.8 m²) of the floor area, plus the huge porch area which adds 67 ft² (6.25 m²) of the protected space, see the picture. This is also an incredibly tall tent with 7.5 ft (229 cm) peak height.
The waterproof rating is truly impressive, you have 5000 mm. This is a tent for any weather conditions in a 3-season use. Please read more in my full review.
How to choose – buyers guide
This particular group with dome-style tents includes a variety of very different models so it may be difficult to choose. This is mainly because of their frames. So you have simple domes with X-shaped poles that support the tent, but there are also structures with extensions on the sides that look very different.
Freestanding or not
Having a freestanding structure allows you to pitch it anywhere. But this does not mean that you should not stake it down, do not ever miss to do so. But this feature typically implies that there are no vestibules so indeed the structure is simple and easy to use, but there are downsides of this as well.
I mentioned extensions, so if a dome is with extensions, it is normally not freestanding and it must be staked properly to be functional.
Storage areas
There is never enough space when you are in the camp. Therefore it is essential to have some storage space. These are large tents so you will use them perhaps with the car, and the car can serve the purpose of a storage area. But having vestibules makes a lot of difference. This offers space to store your boots and shoes and many other things which would otherwise be kept in the tent.
This is also related to the freestanding feature of a tent. When you have vestibules, you will have to stake the structure properly so such tents are only partly freestanding.
Protection
When it comes to protection, we first think about the fly and this is normal. You need a shelter from the rain and the fly is crucial. Having a full coverage fly implies the best possible protection, assuming that it is waterproof and that tapes are sealed of course. Such a fly normally creates vestibules, so this is related to the features mentioned above.
But there are other elements of the protection. What about the floor? Groundwater is a big deal as well. So having a strong and sealed floor is also crucial. Tents with polyethylene floor are normally fully waterproof and you will be safe. Such materials are also physically strong and durable.
Then there is protection from flying and crawling insects. This implies that all openings should have mesh as a second layer. This includes the inner tent structure and its doors and windows.
How about poles? If the tent collapses in strong winds, you will be in trouble and your camping will be ruined. Budget tents come with fiberglass poles, but this is not the best material for tent poles, see more in my separate text.
Capacity
The issue of the tent capacity is discussed in my separate text in detail. Here I would like to stress that the declared capacity should be taken with a grain of salt. The manufacturers use the backpacking principle and measure how many sleeping pads can fit on the floor. But for a family camping this cannot work, so it is best to downgrade the declared capacity by half.
Having large vestibules or a porch adds a lot to the capacity, so the inner area’s declared capacity in such a case makes sense.
Comfort
There are many factors that determine comfort. The mentioned capacity is one of them so these features are related. The same holds for the protection as well. By this, I mean that if you have a full coverage fly, you will be protected, but such a design does not allow for windows.
I mentioned features like a porch and a vestibule, but you can have a screen room as well. This adds a lot to the livability and comfort of a dome tent.
On the other hand, dome tents tend to be lower than some other types, but there are great exceptions of course. Even if they are tall, they do not offer lots of volume. So in general, dome tents are not the most comfortable on the market. If comfort is your priority, go for some cabin style tent but bear in mind that many windows and doors which you normally have with such tents are for warm weather and not for harsh conditions. You see the point.
Ease of use
Simple dome structures are normally very easy to use and this holds in particular for fully freestanding tents. There are even instant tents that are dome-shaped so those are incredibly easy to use and suitable for people who change the camping place frequently. But the mentioned extensions add some work when you have to pitch such a tent.
Final thoughts & Editor’s Choice tent
So this was my list of the best dome camping tents currently available on the market. It will be updated regularly so bookmark this page and check from time to time. Note that not all dome-style tents are included here, there are many more in the dome tents Category which you can see here in the site.
Not every tent here is for all weather conditions; some are built to be pleasant and livable and those are for summer camping. Some other tents offer more protection, those are the models with the full fly, but they are without windows and usually offer less inner space but they have vestibules.
