Last Modified: 02/01/2023

This Portal Outdoor Unisex’s Two Beta 6 Spacious 2 Bedroom Tent is an extended dome type 3-room structure with fiberglass poles, lightweight and roomy, and with a great price tag.

Key features & benefits

  • 3 Rooms.
  • 1 Door.
  • Extended-dome tent.
  • Awning configuration.
  • Fiberglass poles.
  • Great price.

What is in the name

This tent is under several slightly different names on the market and they make no much sense to me. So on Amazon-US, it is under the name given in the title above, i.e., Portal Outdoor Unisex’s Two Beta 6 Spacious 2 Bedroom Tent, while on Amazo-UK they call it Portal Outdoors Unisex’s Beta 6 Spacious 2 Bedroom Tent. On the manufacturer’s site, this is just Portal Outdoors Beta 6 Tent.

This is not the only confusing part of the description, more below. So I have no idea what they mean with this Unisex’s or Unisex’s Two, this is also grammatically awkward. But in any case, this is a 3-room tent, and you have two inner tents on the sides, plus one central living room. The picture below shows the floor plan and some of the most important dimensions.

The description by the manufacturer tells you that the floor is sewn-in, but it is not. The picture below shows a bit of the inner view with the living room area floor which is just a tarp, not sewn-in and not linked-in. But the two side inner tents are with their own sewn-in and sealed floors. The structure is a bit similar to this Coleman Ridgeline 6 Person Tent.

The tent is not freestanding, it has two side poles that must be staked to make the tent functional. There are no windows anywhere around, the picture below shows how it looks from the back side. So as you realize, this is a single-door tent, and it allows for an awning configuration shown in the picture above.

The tent is a hybrid single/double layer construction. The living room is under the shell, while the inner tents are a double-layer part. So this is a structure very similar to the NTK Explorer GT tent.

There are no floor vents here, but this is not essential because the floor in the living room is not sewn-in so you will always have enough air flow from the ground. There is also the top area under the central dome which is with mesh and a flap that attaches from outside, so this improves ventilation and allows for the vapor to escape. There is a wide gap between the shell and the inner tents’ walls, so ventilation should work well here.

The tent comes with a pair of extra poles and the door’s flap is with a dual zipper so you can raise it and create an awning as shown in the pictures. This extends the tent outside and you can sit under the shade and also use the space for cooking.

Materials

The poles

The poles are fiberglass and you have them four. This is not very durable material, but you would not expect more in such a budget-friendly tent. On the other hand, this material is commonly used even in much more expensive tents.

The picture above shows that you add the poles from outside, there are long sleeves for this purpose. I know that some people do not like sleeves, but there is a good side in this design. This allows for a dry setup, and this means that even if you are forced to pitch the tent when it is raining, the inner area will remain dry in the process. This is not so when you have to add the fly separately and the poles are attached to the inner tent.

The fabric

The shell fabric is 100% polyester, PU coated and with seams taped, its official waterproof rating is 4000 mm. They build it in three different colors shown in the pictures here.

The inner tent is also a breathable 100% polyester. The floor is polyethylene, this is a sort of plastic, and such materials are highly waterproof.

Who is it for

Regarding the capacity, officially the tent is for 6 people, and the floor plan shown above tells you what the manufacturer suggests for using the tent. You have a total area of 117 ft² (10.9 m²) and in the case of 6 people this means 19.5 ft² (1.8 m²) per person which is not bad.

Regarding seasons and climate, the tent could be described as a 3-season tent, the declared waterproof rating is very high but it is best to test the tent in controlled conditions before you go camping. This because of the strange statement that is available on Amazon about its “waterproof rating of 4000 mm which means it can resist light & moderate rain”. From my experience and knowledge about tents, a tent with such an impressive rating should “resist” any rain.

Regarding the weight & packed size, the tent is quite moderate in both. You can see the numbers in the specifications below. But you will need a car for transportation.

Regarding the price, this tent looks to me like a true bargain, as simple as that.

Specifications

  • Weight: 24.91 lb (11.3 kg).
  • Dimensions: 205 x 82.7 in (520 x 210 cm).
  • Area: 117 ft² (10.9 m²).
  • Peak height: 74.8 in (190 cm).
  • Packed size: (73 x 22 x 22 cm).
  • Poles: fiberglass.

Final thoughts

In the summary of this Portal Outdoors Beta 6 Tent review, I would stress that here you have a large and quite enclosed structure and its inner tents are well-protected under the massive shell. The living room’s floor is not sewn-in, but the good side of this is that when appropriate you can roll it to the side to use the space for camping chairs without thinking of possible damages to the floor.

The inner tents allow for some versatility, so you can remove one of them if you have only two people camping, and this will create a huge living room. You can also remove both inner tents and use the shell alone for some family events in the garden.

All the parameters are moderate as you will see from my rating below, and the tent is very affordable, so if you do not want to spend much and still have a large tent for occasional family adventures, you should not think twice.

Please see how I rate this Portal Outdoors Tent, the same criteria are used for all the tents here in the site for easy comparison:
