Coleman has many tents on the market in all shapes and sizes, and here you have my selection of the best Coleman 8 person cabin tents with some interesting features.
The tents in the list are ordered by the floor area, from the smallest to the largest:
1. Coleman Camping Tent Skylodge Instant 8-12 Person
This tent is just a representative of a series of several tents built in the same style, i.e., the Skylodge Instant 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 person tents and all of them are available at the same place on Amazon.
Note that they also have this Skylodge series that is not instant, and on the first look they look almost the same, so it is very easy to get confused.
All these tents are tall and pleasant, with large double-layer mesh and panel windows, and with a minimal fly that covers only the roof. They can also be described as freestanding because the fly attaches to the frame.
These are tents for calm weather and without much rain, most suitable for up to two-season camping in the warmer part of the year. The focus here is on the 8-person version, so the area is 112.5 ft² (10.45 m²), and the peak height is 6.5 ft (198 cm).
2. Coleman Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch 8 Person Tent
This tent offers a floor area of 117 + 4 ft² (10.85 + 0.37 m²), and those extra 4 square feet are from a special feature here and this is the cabinet that they have added. You can see it in the picture above. Note that it is completely connected to the tent and the access to it is only from the tent.
You have a very typical cabin type tent here, most suitable for summer camping and for a warmer climate. The fly is partial coverage type and this is why the tent offers nice views around through its large double-layer windows.
One more specific feature of this tent is its hinged door. This means that it has a peripheral frame and Velcro tabs, so you do not have to use zippers all the time. The frame is what they call the fast-pitch design so the roof poles pre-attached to a hub element. This makes setup faster and easier.
3. Coleman Octagon 98 Full Fly Tent
This tent is a rare example of a cabin type tent with a full coverage fly. So you have the usual comfort of a cabin tent plus a full protection because of its massive fly. The fly is with vertical zippers on multiple places on the sides, you can see them as those orange lines in the picture, so you can unzip them and have views around when the sky is clear.
The tent is with a divider so this makes it a 2-room structure, and each of the rooms has its own door. But note also that one of these doors is the hinged type. There are small awnings above each of the doors, so you can keep the mesh openings on the doors open even when it is raining.
With such a design the tent is freestanding and it is supported with steel poles. You will need some numbers, so the weight is 49.3 lb (22.4 kg) and the diameter is 13 ft (4 m), while the floor area is 122 ft² (11.3 m²).
4. Coleman Octagon 98 8-Person Outdoor Tent with Half Fly
This tent looks very similar to their Octagon 98 full fly tent, but there are some functional differences. The most obvious is the fly as indicated in its name. So it goes half way down the tent, but here again you have the same side zippers so you can create windows.
Because of this, the weight is different, so the tent weighs 39.9 lb (18.1 kg). But note also that the doors here are the usual with zippers, so you do not have a hinged door design here.
The tent is freestanding, with 2 doors and 4 windows, and the peak height is 81.9 inches (208 cm). The area is 122 ft² (11.3 m²).
5. Coleman 8 Person Instant Camping Tent
This tent is from their best known series of three tents, and this is the largest of them. The floor area is 140 ft² (12.9 m²) so this is enough for 8 sleeping pads on the floor.
From the official name you realize this is a tent with an instant setup. This means that the poles are pre-attached to the tent, so you just unfold it and extend the telescopic poles and the tent is ready in a minute or two.
Obviously, it is here because of its cabin-type shape as you realize from the picture. So the walls are very steep and straight, and the tent is almost two meters tall. It has seven windows and two doors.
Observe also that this is a single-layer type tent so it is with a built-in rain fly. The tent is fully freestanding so you can pitch on any terrain, and you can even move it around or rotate it even after it is set up. The weight is 36.3 lb (16.5 kg).
Final thoughts
So this was my selection of the best Coleman 8 person cabin tents, the list will be updated whenever I find an 8-person cabin tent from this brand that is worth adding here. This is why you might want to bookmark this text and visit it occasionally, this will keep you informed.
Regarding ease of use, you have instant and non-instant type here, so it is not complicated to decide if this is the feature that is important to you. You will not find a tent that is easier to use than the Coleman 8 Person Instant Camping Tent presented above.
On the other hand, if you know your camping will be in places with lots of rain, it is best to go for a tent that has a full fly. For warm and dry conditions, choose a tent with a minimal fly and with windows for ventilation and views. But here you have options that will work well in any weather because of the zippers on the fly.
