What kind of tent is this

The Super Arizona GT tent is the largest of the tents from the Arizona series, hence the word Super in the name. You might want to know that they have recently launched their Arizona GT 7/8. The Arizona GT 9/10 you can see here. They all are quite different in style.

So this is a non-freestanding and 3-season tent, and it is a double-layer type. This means that you have an inner tent plus a full-coverage fly. This fly is what makes a big difference between this tent and many other tents of this size described here in the site. The Super Arizona tent provides a full and complete protection from elements.

By its shape, the tent looks like a tunnel type, see the picture below, but this is more a dome extended asymmetrically on the two sides.

The tent is designed with 2 rooms, again rather asymmetric in size. The divider is shown in the picture below, as you see you have a central zipper, and the divider is not sewn in. Many things are asymmetric in the design, including the 2 doors which are completely different in design; one is a side door and the other is on one of the front section of the tent.

The inner area can be divided into 2 rooms.

Who is it for

Sizewise, the manufacturer’s declared capacity of the Super Arizona GT tent is up to 12 people. So let’s see the numbers: the floor area is 210 ft² (19.5 m²) and this gives 17.5 ft² (1.63 m²) per person if used by such a number of people. This is hardly enough although the floor area is indeed large enough to accommodate 12 sleeping pads side by side, but this is by following the backpacking principle.

As I argued in my text about the tent’s capacity, if you want some normal comfort, divide this number by 2, as simple as that. So in the case of a family with kids, this is for parents with up to 4 kids.

Seasons-wise, this is a true 3-season tent. By this, I mean that it will definitely protect you regardless of the weather conditions in a normal 3-season use. I have a full confidence in its full coverage fly.

However, this is a Brasilian company and the tent is designed for a warmer climate. This you see from the mesh which you have everywhere around. This is all normal and you have it in most of the tent described here in the site. Such a mesh is excellent for air flow, but the tent does not preserve warmth, so I would not use it in a cold environment.

Regarding the weight and the packed size, you have 42 lb (19 kg) and the bundle is 28 x 16 x 14 in (71 x 41 x 36 cm). So clearly this is for places with a motorized access, you would not carry such a tent anywhere.

The full coverage fly is designed to create an awning, poles are included.

Materials & construction

The fabric

The fly is a PU coated polyester taffeta 68D 190T with 2500 mm waterproof rating. All seams are sealed. So these are very good properties and the fly provides a full protection.

The inner tent is 50% polyester mesh which protects from all insects and mosquitoes. The rest is taffeta panels. The floor is a heavy duty fully bathtub style waterproof anti-fungus seamless polyethylene with an inner silver coated layer.

In one of the pictures above you have seen a divider which is with toggles attached to the walls, so it is removable and it looks like a curtain, but it gives some privacy. Note that the two rooms created this way are not the same size, so the smaller can be used by parents and the bigger by kids.

All the materials used here meet CPAI-84 flammability requirements.

The poles

There are 5 tent poles plus 2 shorter for the awning setup. The material is fiberglass which needs some care. You also have an aluminum pin-and-ring system for an easy and quick setup.

There are two external doors on the inner tent and on the fly. Mesh is everywhere for ventilation and protection and you can see this in the picture below.

Ventilation

The tent is equipped with 3 vents and you also have mesh around on the walls, on windows, and on the doors. So ventilation should not be an issue in this tent.

Setting the tent up

There are many poles and the tent takes time but you need to get familiar with the procedure. Here are people who have just unpacked it and are setting it up for the first time, have a look:

NTK Super Arizona GT vs Competitors

The best way to realize the features of a tent is by comparing it with other tents from the same size range. So here it is, side by side with two other 12-person tents. The other two tents are cabin type and it is obvious that they provide less space. The NTK is with a full fly, so it offers better protection. Please follow the links in the table to see more.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

I would conclude this NTK Super Arizona GT Tent Review by stressing that this is a very reliable tent which offers complete protection with its full-coverage fly. On the other hand, its inner tent is with lots of mesh, so this is a ventilated design very suitable for a warmer climate.

The floor area is small for the declared number of users, but you have seen in the comparison table that it is much better than its competitors. The users’ experience is exceptionally positive. In fact, I do not remember seeing a negative review of this tent. I have included this tent in my list of best 12 person camping tents.

It may look expensive, but this is a top-quality tent. See how I rate it:

We just purchased a new NTK Super Arizona and it now has an electric cable port. We are excited to use it but so far appears to be an excellent tent that we would have purchased without the electric cable port.

Hi Mark, I am not sure what you are saying. It seems you read somewhere about its cable port, but as far as I know this tent does not have it.
