The Caddis Rapid Screenhouse Shelter is a freestanding and very easy-to-use screen shelter with a 1 minute setup time and 2 zippered doors.
Key features & benefits
- 2 Doors.
- Freestanding.
- Instant setup design.
- 1 Minute setup time.
What this is about
If you are familiar with the Caddis Rapid 6 Person Tent, then you should know that this is a very similar structure. So you have a cabin-style construction with straight and steep walls, and with a great peak height of 85 inches (216 cm).
But this is a screen house as the name tells you so you have mesh walls everywhere and 2 doors on the opposite sides. The screen house is supported by 4 telescopic leg poles that are permanently attached to 4 roof poles that converge to the top hub element. The structure is very similar to the Coleman 10×10 Instant Screen House.
So this is an instant-setup shelter and its official setup time is one minute. This is completely realistic, all you have to do is to unfold it and to extend the legs poles. There is no fly to attach, the roof is already there. One person can do this easily.
Materials
The fabric is polyester and this applies to the roof taffeta and to the no-see-um mesh walls. The mentioned poles are steel and you have 23 mm diameter legs and 17 mm roof tubes.
There is a peripheral drape that helps seal the space in the case of uneven ground. The same you can see in my YDYL screen house. A carry bag is included.
Who is it for
Regarding the size, you have a square that measures 10 x 10 ft (305 x 305 cm). So the area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²) and this is large enough to accommodate at least 4 people with camping chairs and a camping table.
This is large enough to put it above most of the fixed tables with benches in picnic spaces around. I see it also as a great annex to a family camping tent, you can use it as a dining and cooking room.
You can even set it up above a smaller camping tent and have a shade, and an environment free from flying insects.
Regarding the weight, this screen house is not really lightweight with its 20 lb (9.07 kg). But such a weight is quite normal for instant-setup structures. This is because of massive leg poles that also have some overlapping sections that add weight.
The same holds for its packed size which is not so great, it measures (L x D) 50 x 9 inches (127 x 23 cm). So this is a shelter for places with a car access only.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
So this Caddis Rapid Screenhouse Shelter is nicely proportioned with is 10 x 10 ft base and 7.09 ft peak height. It is incredibly easy to set up, but bear in mind that it is quite long when packed and it is not very light. I have included it in my list of best camping screen houses.
Below you can see the summary of my pros and cons and my rating. As you realize, it stands good against my rating criteria:

What is the best way to store the screenhouse, in or out of the carrying case.

Hi Don, it is about dust, this is why I would keep it in the carry case. It must be dry of course. But you can surely keep it stored without the carry case.
