The Berghaus Dome Shelter is tall and freestanding, with two doors and a highly waterproof canopy, and supported with a steel frame.
Key features & benefits
- Steel frame.
- Two mesh doors.
- Two mesh side walls.
- Freestanding.
- Very tall.
What this is about
This Berghaus Dome Shelter should not be mixed with their Berghaus Air Shelter which is a very different item although on the first look they may look similar.
So this is a dome structure as its name suggests, and it is tall with its 86.6 inches (220 cm) peak height. It can be described as freestanding and the structure is quite unique. It has A-frame poles in each corner, and there are also eave loops that go from one corner to another, plus the roof poles.
The shelter has two doors on the opposite sides, shown below, both with a central zipper. On the other two sides you have mesh windows. Two removable panels are included and you can close any of its sides.
Below you can see how it looks with furniture inside, observe that the side wall is closed. You can also see one of storage pouches on the walls, they are located between the mentioned A-poles in the corners. There are also lantern hanging points available.
Materials
The poles: You have a steel frame here, I already mentioned some of its features. This is one of the differences when you compare it with its mentioned cousin the Berghaus Air Shelter. So it needs assembly and this is the same as with any solid poles tent.
The fabric: They claim this is a premium polyester but there is no information about its denier value. However, the official waterproof rating of 6000 mm is truly impressive. The seams are taped.
The walls are mainly mesh, but there are lager taffeta areas in the corners, they cover the mentioned A-frames. The previously mentioned two panels you can attach on any of the four sides.
With this you have versatility regarding protection from the wind because it may change the direction, so no need to move the shelter as a whole. This is also useful when you want to create a sunshade in certain direction as the sun moves. It is useful for privacy if suddenly you get neighbors who were not there when you pitched your shelter.
Who is it for
Regarding the area & best use, I would describe it as a medium sized scree house. It is big enough to be placed above most of the picnic tables in the parks. The picture below gives you some idea about its size when sitting on the ground, this is enough space for 4-5 people.
As usual, it is always good to compare. So the size is similar to the Sierra Designs Outdoor Magnetic Screenhouse bit the shape here is square. It is larger than the CAMPROS Screen House Room.
You can use it as a dining room in the camp, as a ventilated cooking area, and even as a storage space. With mesh on all sides, you are safe inside from flying insects. This can be a nice addition to an RV as well.
Regarding the weight, it is considerably heavier than most of its competitors. But this is because of its strong and stable frame which I described above. This is a camping shelter so it is not built to be carried far from the car.
Regarding the price, it is quite high but this is a quality product. It is available at several online sellers so check the links below and compare.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons
In summary, this Berghaus Dome Shelter comes with a very strong steel frame and with an unusually high waterproof rating that is rare even in tents. It is tall, pleasant and versatile. Setting it up needs some work and you would not want to move frequently with it. Fully recommended. I have included it in my list of best camping screen houses.
Below you can see how this shelter stands against my standard rating criteria. I apply them consistently to all the products of this type here in the site so that you can easily compare:

Hi Jovo,
Your review is super helpful. Do you recall how long it takes to set up and take down this shelter? Your review suggests this item is not ideal for frequent relocating which is what we need it for.
Many thanks,
Kay

For frequent relocation it is probably better to go for an air-beam shelter of this type. This brand has one, the Berghaus Air Shelter.
But this does not mean that this Dome Shelter is useless. Cannot suggest exact setup time as this will depend on how many people are helping with it, but there are more complicated shelter of this type on the market for sure. It needs assembly, you have seen those unique A shaped poles in each of the corners, but this is all easily done.
