MOOSE OUTDOORS 6 Person Inflatable Family Tent For Camping is a design without metal poles, the tent is supported by air beams instead. You just use the included pump and inflate them in 7-8 minutes.
Addition June 2019: I have noticed this tent is currently not available on the market, you might want to check their new tent launched recently with the 10 person capacity and very similar air beam technology.
Key features & benefits
- Air beams instead of classic poles.
- Very easy setup.
- 3-room tent.
- Plenty of space for 6 people.
What kind of tent is this
Here you have an innovative design with air beams instead of classic poles. So this is an inflatable tent which you can raise from the ground in some 7 minutes or so with the help of a pump which is included in the package.
The tent is tunnel type with four arches created by the pre-bent air beams. This is what they call the Qwikframe system which creates a strong and rigid tent structure. Such a design means that it is tall throughout its length and in most of its width, you have 200 cm roof here and no problems with standing up.
Regarding the inner structure, this is a 3-room tent, with two sleeping zones on the two sides and the central sitting zone with two entry doors on the opposite sides. The floor plan is shown in the picture below.
Who is it for
The declared capacity of this tent is 6 people, and the total area is 150 ft² (13.8 m²), which gives 25 ft² (2.3 m²) per person. The width is 230 cm, so indeed this is enough for 3 sleeping pads side by side in each of the two sleeping sections. With the addition of the central sitting area, this is plenty of space for 6 people. See the floor plan which clearly shows this:
This is a great tent for groups of friends and for families. It can be used also with two couples, the two sleeping areas are such that they can accommodate queen size beds each. The separate sleeping sections are with inner walls and with zippers so you have the best possible privacy which you can expect in a tent.
By its design, this is a 3-season tent, there is no much mesh here so it is better suited for a cooler and wet environment.
Materials and inner design
You have 100% polyester here with 40D 238T, and it is PU coated. The waterproof rating is quite high, so you have 3000 mm here. If you are not familiar, and ordinary umbrella is around 400 mm, and many quality winter tents are 3000 mm. So this is a quite high rating, definitely good enough for any 3-season use. Though 40D is not so impressive.
Note that the PE floor in the central sitting room is not sewn-in, it is linked-in, so it is also removable.
There are two windows in the sitting area, and those are solid PVC panels so space is closed and without mesh. But the tent is equipped with two vents on the narrow sides.
The two external doors are without mesh but the inside doors are with mesh.
What is included
You have the following in the package:
- Air pump.
- Polyester carrying bag.
- Pump bag.
- 24 stakes.
- Repair kit.
In the case of a leak, the air beams are repaired just like any inner tyre on a bicycle.
Good and less good features
Here is my short summary:
- Very comfortable.
- True 3-season use.
- Good organization.
- A bit heavy.
- No mesh on the external doors.

In the table below I give the Moose Outdoors 6 tent side by side with two other tents with the same air beam technology. Obviously, it offers less floor area than the other two tents. The prices are, respectively, $529, 318, 440. So in such a context, this tent is a less affordable option.

air beams + pole
The MOOSE OUTDOORS 6 Person Inflatable Family Tent For Camping is somewhat similar to other air beam tents currently available on the market, see in particular this Vango Odyssey 8 tent. So the structure is elongated and with sleeping areas on the two ends. This design offers a lot of privacy in the two sleeping zones, more you cannot expect in a camping tent.
You do not have lots of mesh here, the complete tent body is built waterproof, and it is best to use such a tent in a cooler climate. If you need something for ordinary summer camping in a relatively warm area, better find something with mesh on the ceiling and with large meshed windows.
There are many tents of this type described in the site, just look around. You might want to check this Wenzel Vortex 8 tent built in the same air beam style, which is far more affordable, and also this Vango Odyssey Air 500 Tent and Vango Capri 500 XL. More inflatable tents are available in this list. For a dome-style inflatable tent, check this incredible Crua Core 6 tent.
