CORE Lighted 10 Person Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Room is a 3-room semi-freestanding and semi-instant tent from a new 2019 series with an integrated light system.

What this is about

Core brand has launched a blue series of their cabin-style tents for 2019 with the integrated light system and there are three tents currently on the market. So this Lighted 10 Person tent is equivalent to their Core 10 Person Instant tent that has been around for a number of years already.

Note that they have yet another 10-person and lighted tent under the name CORE 10 Person Lighted Instant Cabin Tent, so do not mix them.

This is partly freestanding cabin tent and also partly instant tent. The reason for the word ‘partly’ is the screen room. To have it functional, you have to stake it down. The main entrance to the tent is through this screen area. While the main part of the tent comes with the frame pre-attached, the poles on the screen room must be added separately. So you realize this is a hybrid type, but the setup is still quick and easy and under 2 minutes’ time. Note that all instant tents of this brand are listed in our separate text.

The rooms

There are two inner rooms separated by a divider and in front of them is the screen room as the entry area. There is no floor in the screened area and it has only mesh on the walls. So this is an area for sitting in the shade and for cooking, the fly covers it partly.

Each of the two rooms is with two large windows plus a large door with a mesh window. Observe also that this is an incredibly tall tent with a peak height of 84 inches (213 cm) in both of its inner rooms.

The lighting

This is a completely new feature in Core tents. The system operates on 4D batteries or 5V (the batteries are not included). You have the following operation settings:

• High: 950 Lumens, 50 h run time.
• Medium: 300 Lumens, 110 h run time.
• Nightlight: 35 Lumens, 250 h run time.

The LED lights are built into the roof poles of the tent. The light switch is mounted to the tent wall (see the picture) and it also illuminates so you can see it in the dark.

The tent comes also with an E-cable zippered port so you can use the external power if it is available in the camp, see the picture above.

Who is it for

Space-wise, the total covered area is 203 ft² (18.9 m²). This is a lot of area but this includes the screen room as well. The official floored (and fully protected) area is 140 ft² (13 m²). The declared capacity of 10 people would imply 14 ft² (1.3 m²) per person and this is far from enough. This tent is perfect for two couples or for parents with up to 3 kids.

Note that each of the rooms has its door and the size is 10 x 7 ft so you can have a queen size beds inside of each of them. The screened room you can use as a sitting area because you have the fly above, and the mesh around and above protects you from flying insects.

Seasons-wise, I see this tent as a summer camping tool only, most suitable for warm weather conditions and without winds and strong rains. The waterproof rating is rather low.

The tent is with plenty of mesh on all the openings and on the ceiling, and vents are available, so you will have great ventilation at all times, see the picture of the tent without the fly. But these same features do not make it suitable for a cold environment. Weight-wise, this is a heavy item with 47.8 lb (21.7 kg) of weight so you would not want to carry it anywhere. Its packed size is 49 x 16 x 11.5 inches (124 x 41 x 29 cm) and you will need a car for transportation.

The materials

The poles & stakes

The poles are steel and this is what makes the tent heavy. You also have 30 steel stakes included, 7 inches long.

The fabric

The waterproof rating for this tent is 600 mm and the seams are taped. So it gives some protection but this is not for heavy rains. The wall and fly material is a 68D polyester and the floor is 115 g/m² polyethylene.

Ventilation

I already mentioned this above. So all the openings are with mesh and panels, and the ceiling is mesh. They have added two vents as well, one on each of the two rooms. This guarantees a good vertical airflow even if you have to keep the panels closed. So this is an excellent design for warm-weather camping.
