- Ozark Trail 12-Person 3-Room Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Room
- Ozark Trail Hazel Creek 20-Person Star Tent with Screen Room
The tents in the list include the following types:
- Dome-style tents.
- Cabin tents. Note that one of these is an instant tent, the Ozark Trail 9.
- Some of the tents are freestanding or semi-freestanding. For example, the NEMO Wagontop is with the vestibule which needs to be staked out while the rest is freestanding. The dome tents in the list are all semi-freestanding with screen rooms that need fixing to the ground. The only fully freestanding is the Coleman WeatherMaster.
About screen room tents in general, you can read in my separate text. See below some more details about the tents, most of them are described in detail in my separate reviews. Note that all the screen rooms are floored. If you need a tent with a floorless screen area, please check my text about best family camping tents with a screen porch.
1. NTK Texas GT up to 7 Persons Tent
This NTK Texas GT up to 7 Persons Tent is quite unique on the market in several ways. The structure is fully freestanding, with straight-leg poles so I would put it in the group of cabin tents. You have 2 doors and 3 windows. Note that it allows for 2 awnings and the poles are included for this purpose.
This is a 2-room structure, or if you wish one room plus a huge screened porch, and this is why it is in the list here. The base is a hexagon and half of it is its screen porch which is without a floor. But it comes with zippered panels on its huge screens.
The fly covers the tent completely, so I have included it in my list of tents with full coverage fly. Its waterproof rating is great 2500 mm.
The inner area is 63.5 ft² (5.9 m²) and the same size is its screened area. This is a very tall tent with 82.8 inches (210 cm) peak height. It is also incredibly affordable.
2. Coleman Cabin Camping Tent with Screen Room
I show this 6 person Coleman Cabin Camping Tent with Screen Room without the fly so that you can see how beautifully designed and pleasant it is. In spite of the official name, this is a tunnel-type tent, so it is included in my list of best tunnel tents for camping. It is most suitable for summer camping, with windows on all sides.
They build it in two different variants, without and with a waterproof porch. You have one door, one screen room in front, and an e-cable port. Note that the screen room is floored. The tent is very affordable. As for the numbers, it weighs 32.5 lb (14.74 kg), the inner area is around 97 ft² (9 m²).
3. NEMO Wagontop 6 Person Tent
This is a very particular design, unique among the tent here. The tent is freestanding and 2 meters tall, and its main body is a single layer. However, the front section is a completely screened porch, and here you have a fly that covers the porch completely and in addition, it creates a large vestibule. So this is the only tent with a vestibule here.
So although the floor area is 97 ft² (9 m²), you also have 27 ft² (2.5 m²) of the protected space in the vestibule, which is good for the storage of equipment and for cooking.
As you realize, the tent is a tunnel-shape, and you have large doors on both sides. There is a divider inside so you effectively have two separate rooms. This all makes the tent very livable and functional.
The poles are hubbed aluminum with a 14.5 mm diameter, and you have one extra loop pole in the middle. This is a truly reliable tent for family camping and for groups, perhaps the only tent here that is indeed for any weather conditions in a 3-season use.
The most important features
- Very particular design.
- Great space per person.
- Easy setup.
- 2-room tent.
- 2-doors.
- Single-wall type.
- Screened porch.
- The vestibule rolls up completely.
- Freestanding.
Note that they also have the Nemo Wagontop 8 Person Tent with similar features, and they have launched its new version for the season 2020, so you can see it in the picture:
4. Stoic Tunnel Tent and Screen Porch 6-Person
This is a well-designed, freestanding tent ideal for summer camping. With an inner floored area of 97 square feet (9 square meters), it comfortably accommodates six people, providing 16.2 square feet (1.5 square meters) per person.
Its Y-type support loops make it fully self-supporting, ensuring stability and ease of setup. The tent features three doors, each with a dry-entry design, and multiple mesh windows for excellent ventilation.
The front of the tent includes a screened room area with a removable floor, offering additional space to enjoy views while being protected from insects. However, this area lacks full rain protection, making it less suitable for gear storage during wet weather.
The tent’s materials include fiberglass poles and a 66D 190T polyester fabric with a 1000 mm waterproof rating, which is adequate for light summer rains.
Despite its modest floor area and bulky packed size, the Stoic Tunnel Tent offers great value for money, making it an excellent choice for casual campers seeking a spacious and affordable shelter.
5. Gazelle T4 Plus Hub Tent with Screen Room
This tent is a semi-instant and also semi-freestanding 2-room structure with both rooms the same size, and with a removable floor. So the front room can be used as a screen room but you have panels for protection and privacy.
The floor attaches to the tent with a Velcro tab that runs along the perimeter and it also goes some 3 inches above the ground creating a bathtub structure so you are safe from groundwater. There is also the skirt visible in the picture above for additional protection.
The poles are fiberglass and they are preattached to the tent, there are 7 hub elements on the walls and on the ceiling. But there are a few other poles that must be added around the main door. The area is 110 ft² (10.2 m²) and the tent is rather heavy, it weighs 47 lb (21.3 kg).
6. Outbound 8-Person Tent with screen porch
This Outbound 8 tent is a simple tunnel-type construction with fiberglass poles and one main room. But it has the porch shown in the picture and this is why it in the list here. The porch is like a screen room, supported by one extra pole and it comes with a removable floor.
This is a summer camping tent with a single door and two windows under the porch. The waterproof rating is minimal. The tent weighs 18 lb 8 oz (8.39 kg) and it provides an inner area of 112 ft² (10.4 m²). You might want to know that this is a very affordable tent.
7. Coleman Camping Tent Skydome 8 Person with Screen Room
This Coleman Camping Tent Skydome 8 Person with Screen Room is with a fully protected screen room so this is a true 2-room tent. The structure is an extended dome, tall and pleasant, you have a peak height of 6.3 ft (192 cm).
The tent weighs 24.97 lb (11.3 kg), the total floored area is 114 ft² (10.6 m²), and the screen room area is 37 ft² (3.4 m²). There are an E-cable port and several wall pockets. The fly covers most of the tent. They use their standard WeatherTec design and technology.
8. Wenzel Eldorado 8 Person Tent
This Wenzel Eldorado is a cabin-style 2-room structure and both rooms have one entry door. This is a convertible design and this means that the screen room has panels with zippers, so you can use it just like the other room, there is no difference in the level of protection.
With its peak height of 86 inches (218 cm), this is also a very tall tent and I have included it in my list of very tall family camping tents. Being a cabin tent, it is very easy to use. It comes with an E-cable port.
The area is 126 ft² (11.7 m²) and the declared capacity is 8 people. You might like to know that this is also a very affordable tent.
9. Pacific Pass 6 Person Family Dome Tent with Screen Room
As you realize from the name, this Pacific Pass 6 Person Family Dome Tent with Screen Room is here because of its screen room which you see in the picture above. The screen room is floored but it does not offer full protection from the rain, you will see that it is very similar to the Coleman tent shown below.
This is a cool-looking tent, well-ventilated, and lightweight. It weighs 16.5 lb (7.5 kg). You will want to know that it is incredibly affordable. The inner area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²) and the screen room area is around 29 ft² (2.7 m²).
10. Coleman Skydome 6-Person Screen Room Camping Tent with Dark Room Technology
This tent is a two-room configuration, and its front room is built with mesh on its three sides. But it is also with closable panels. So this is a fully protected room, and it doubles also as a screen room. This area is of around 40 square feet (3.7 m²) and its floor is fully sealed.
But as you realize from the name, this tent is also with a dark rest design. This means that in the bedroom up to 90% of daylight is blocked.
The overall structure is an extended dome supported with fiberglass poles. There is an E-port as well. The tent weighs 18.34 lb (8.3 kg), and its total floored space is 125 ft² (11.6 m²). The peak height is 72 inches (183 cm).
11. Coleman Evanston 6 Screened Tent
Here you have a structure with the main part being a dome-style tent, with an attached screened room. So this is a very stable and aerodynamic configuration, relatively low, with 68 inches (173 cm) peak height. As such, this is a great tool to use at places where you expect some wind, but bear in mind this is a summer camping tent, not for harsh weather conditions.
The total floor area is 140 ft² (13 m²), so this looks a lot, but the porch has no full rain protection so the effective protected area is not particularly big. Thus, the screen on the porch offers protection from insects, but this is not a completely dry area although you have a full floor everywhere.
The tent is not fully freestanding, the screen section must be staked out to be fully functional. Note that under the dome part you have two mesh windows protected by panels, but you can keep them open most of the time.
The poles are fiberglass and the tent and fly fabric is polyester taffeta 75D, and the floor is a durable tarp-type polyethylene with the bathtub design.
The most important features
- Lots of space for 6 people.
- Pleasant tent.
- 2 windows on the dome part + screen room windows.
- Stable dome structure.
- The screen room is with the floor but there are no waterproof panels.
12. Coleman Carlsbad Fast Pitch 6-person dome tent with screen room
This dome-style tent looks like the previous tent from the same brand, but it has several features that make them different from its competitors. The words ‘fast pitch’ in the name suggests that you have pre-attached, color-coded poles and hub, together with a snag-free Insta-Clip suspension which lets you set it up 50% faster than a comparable Coleman tent with a standard setup.
The tent comes with what they call the Dark Room technology, so the tent blocks 98% of sunlight to keep the tent darker. This is for the situation you or your kids want to sleep while the sun is up. This same technology reduces heat accumulation in the tent by up to 11%. See more about this in my separate text.
They use the WeatherTec system here like in their other tents, so you have patented welded floors and inverted seams. The fly protects the windows so you keep them open all the time and this makes ventilation really good here. There are vents on the roof as well which add to the good ventilation.
This is a tent for 2 seasons maximum, so for summer, late spring and early autumn. The structure must be staked out to be functional so the tent is not freestanding although it may look so.
The area is large, so you have 10 x 9 ft (3 x 2.7 m) in the main room and 10 x 5 ft (3 x 1.5 m) in the screen room. This makes almost 13 m², plenty of space to organize your life in the camp. The center height is 5 ft 8 in (173 cm), so this is quite high, but bear in mind this is the dome shape so the volume is not so great.
The most important features
- Fast pitch design.
- Dark Room technology.
- Reduced heat in the tent during the day.
- E-Port for electrical power inside the tent.
- Easy setup in about 7 minutes.
- The interior has room for 2 queen airbeds.
- Not freestanding.
- Weight: 22.5 lb (10.2 kg).
- Packed size (L x D): 65 x 26 cm.
13. Ozark Trail Instant Cabin Tent with Built-in Cabin Lights
This Ozark Trail Instant Cabin Tent with Built-in Cabin Lights is here because of its screen room which is with mesh and zippered panels on all sides, fully floored and protected.
It comes with integrated lights and this is why I have included it also in my list of lighted tents. This is a 2-room freestanding construction and it is an instant tent and I have added it also to my list of best instant camping tents.
You have a steel frame, an E-cable port, a media pocket, a gear storage system, 2 doors, and 7 windows. The area is 140 ft² (13 m²) and the weight is 32.6 lb (14.8 kg).
14. Wenzel Klondike 8 person tent
This tent is a large family camping tent with two separate rooms that provide 158 square feet (14.7 m²) of the total floor area. This includes the main room plus the screen room which is completely floored, so you have the same functionality as in the main room. But this area provides more comfort because of the mesh everywhere around. When needed, for privacy or against the rain, you will use the panels which you have around.
The tent is clearly cabin style, with all the usual advantages of this design. The ceiling in the main room and in the screen room are different and the roof poles are all fiberglass, while the vertical poles are steel. The peculiar detail inside the tent is the round door between the two rooms, it is with a zipper so the rooms are pretty much separated and they offer quite some privacy. The sizes of the rooms are such that 5 people can sleep in the main room and 3 in the screen room.
Note that the tent is not freestanding and the setup time is around 20 minutes. The main entrance is through the large door on the screen room.
The ventilation will never be a problem with such a tent. You have plenty of mesh around and on the ceiling, and in addition, there is a ventilation opening close to the floor on the back side of the main room.
The most important features
- Large floor area.
- Two separate rooms, the main room + the screened room with the floor.
- Very pleasant and livable tent.
- Non-freestanding.
15. Coleman 8-Person Carlsbad Dark Room Dome Camping Tent with Screen Room
This tent offers around 108 ft² (10 m²) in the inner room and around 70 ft² (6.5 m²) in the screen room. Both are floored but the screen room offers no full protection from the rain.
This is also a dark-rest tent that blocks 90% of sunlight, it is included in my list of best dark rest tents. The tent is easy to use and pleasant, it is also very affordable. The weight is 26.55 lb (12 kg) and its peak height is 6 ft (183 cm).
16. Ozark Trail 14 Person Spring Lodge Cabin Camping Tent
This tent is here because of its screen room which is shown in the picture. Note that the screen room is convertible to a fully protected room because of zippered panels on its three sides, and it is also fully floored. The total floored area is huge, around 189 ft² (17.5 m²), and it includes 2 rooms.
But it also has 2 cabinets, one is visible in the picture above, and it is included in my list of best tents with cabinets. These closets come with mesh shelves and they are fully floored, and their doors are with zippers from inside the tent.
The tent is freestanding and it has 6 mesh windows on all sides. You might want to know that this is a very affordable family camping tent.
17. Coleman Skylodge 10-Person Instant Camping Tent With Screen Room
In this tent you have combines several great and useful features mentioned in its official name. Most of the frame is pre-attached, so it can be described as an semi-instant camping tent.
The area is organized in two rooms, and the front room is with removable panels on its three sides, so you can use it also as a screen room which is the reason for having it here in the list.
The tent is tall, you have a 6.6 ft (201 cm) peak height, and it is nicely ventilated. The frame is a steel and fiberglass combination. The fabric is a polyester with their WeatherTec System with inverted seams.
The weight is 44.27 lb (20.1 kg), and the inner area is around 155 ft² (14.4 m²).
18. Coleman Skylodge 12 Person Tent with Screen Room
This Skylodge 12 is a 2-room cabin-style huge and tall pleasant structure with windows on all sides. So the area which you have here in its two rooms is 190 ft² (17.6 m²), and the tent’s peak height is 7.4 ft (225 cm). This is why I have included it also into my list of very tall camping tents.
It is here because of its front room which is with mesh on all sides, but you also have zippered panels as you realize from the picture. The room is also floored and this means fully protected. The tent is with a ground vent for situations when you have to keep the panels closed. The weight is 45.31 lb (20.6 kg).
19. Core 11 Person Cabin Tent with screen room
This nicely designed tent is very new on the market and it has received excellent reports and reviews. My own rating of this tent is among the highest here in the site.
You have one main room plus the screen room, but this screen room is with a floor and completely protected by panels so that it represents a real room for sleeping and sitting. So the rent is a functional 2-room structure.
As you realize from the picture, this is a cabin-type tent, with very tall and almost vertical walls and the ceiling reaching the height of 86.4 inches (219 cm).
The tent is not freestanding, to have it fully functional it must be staked out. The total floor area is 204 square feet (18.96 m²) and this implies 1.72 m² per person if used for 11 people. The two rooms are of such a size that 4 people can sleep in the screen room and 7 in the main room.
There are no less than 13 poles here, and 6 of them are steel, the others are fiberglass. The tent is a stable structure but it is best to use it for summer camping only.
The most important features
- Two rooms: main room + screen room.
- Very large area.
- Very tall and livable tent.
- Electricity access port.
- Gear loft included.
- Good ventilation system.
- Not freestanding.
20. Ozark Trail 12-Person 3-Room Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Room
This Ozark Trail 12 person tent is a 3-room design and the screen room is one of them. But note that the screen room is completely protected just like the other two rooms, the only difference is that it offers more comfort. So the complete tent is floored and the floor is sealed and the screen room is with mesh on three sides but you also have panels for protection and privacy.
The total area is 168 ft² (15.6 m²) and the declared capacity is 12 people. As you realize from the name, this is also an instant tent and the setup time is 2 minutes only. The poles are steel and they are preattached to the tent and this is a telescopic design, so you simply extend them to their full length.
The peak height is 76 inches (193 cm), the fly is minimal, and the waterproof rating is low. So this is a tent for summer camping at places without much rain and wind. You have lots of mesh everywhere and the ceiling is all mesh so ventilation is perfect and this is a tent for a warm environment.
21. Ozark Trail Hazel Creek 20-Person Star Tent with Screen Room
This Ozark Trail Hazel Creek 20-Person Star Tent with Screen Room is here because of its screen room, this is the part on the right in the picture above. But this tent also has 5 inner rooms. This is why it is also in my list of best 5-room tents.
The tent has 13 windows in total, 5 doors, 4 E-cable ports, and many storage pouches. The total inner area is 279 ft² (26 m²) plus the screen room area of 61 ft² (5.7 m²).
It is included also in my list of extra large family camping tents. The weight is 60.2 lb (27.3 kg). You will want to know that it is very affordable.
Final thoughts
So this was my list of the best family tents with a screen room, all of them are currently on the market and they will be the main tents of this type in the coming years.
Obviously, the numbering above is not a ranking, they are all different sizes and with distinct designs, so no one can be singled out as the best. This will depend on what you actually need.
I would only point out again, some are with a very easy setup but some need a bit more time. So if you are on a cruise tour, this would not be your first choice. You would be doing much better with any of the instant tents in the list.
In any case, you have plenty of options here, those are great tents for summer camping. Thank you for reading. Please use the comment box below if you have any comments or questions. Have a nice day.
Tyler Hussey says
We have a family of 4 plus one big dog 🙂 Ideally want a divider to separate us and the kids and would be nice to have a porch. I stayed in the Northwest territory tent you have here but I see it is discontinued now and hard to find. Any suggestions on where to buy this one or any suggestions on other tents to consider? I like the ozark 3 room you have on your list one as well as the ozark trail 18 by 10. My head is starting to spin with all the options. If you got advice, I’m all ears. Thanks and good article here
JV says
Hi Tyler, the two tents you mentioned are definitely good options if you want a tent with such a screen room. Otherwise, you can have a look at my list of 3-room tents, but this is a much longer list.
It may be helpful to let me know what type of tent you would want, cabin, dome, or tunnel, and for what sort of climate. Then I could suggest something.
Tyler Hussey says
awesome, thank you… I am looking at cabin or dome style. We live in Arizona… dry climate out here and can be hot in summer months, but camping in northern AZ can be cold in winter months.
JV says
For the dry and hot areas, the two tents mentioned by you earlier are a good option. But these tents are definitely not for a cold climate.
Josh says
The market is so crowded and blurry. I have a family of 5. I want a solid well made great waterproofing 3 season tent with screen room that has floor. My head hurts. I didn’t know it’d be this difficult to find. Max budget of $600.00 thanks for any help you can give.
JV says
Hi Josh, you have plenty of options here in the list for the budget you mentioned. All the tents here are big enough for 5 people. It will depend on how many rooms you want and how much space in general, do you want a dark-rest tent, etc. If you tell me more I might be able to help. But in any case, nothing can go wrong with a tent of Core or Nemo, you have their tents here in the list.

hi thanks for the awesome reviews but the name of the first tent is missing can you tell us
JV says
What is missing please?
Eric says
Hi JV, we’re looking for a tent with comfortable space for 2 adults and 3 kids, 3-season, probably cabin or tunnel-style, screened porch or covered vestibule would be nice, good waterproofing, quality construction. What would you recommend?
JV says
Hi Eric, there are plenty of options here in the list. It is difficult for me to recommend due to several reasons. Cabin tents are usually with lots of mesh on the ceiling and they are not really 3-season tents because kids may feel cold in such a structure. Then there is a matter of rooms, it depends on how you want to have space organized, there are tents on the market with 4 rooms and also with 5 rooms. Then there is the issue of price. How about materials, canvas or synthetic, climate, etc.
So give me more information and I shall be able to help you.
Eric says
Thanks, JV! Sounds like a tunnel-style may be better than a cabin tent. Probably around 120 square feet. The number of rooms is not terribly important to us–might be nice to have two. For price, we’d like to stay under $600 or so. Open to suggestions on material. We’re in Northern California, so I would estimate camping in temperatures ranging from the high 30’s overnight all the way up to a California summer with daytime heat in the 90s. Thanks so much for your help!
Eric
JV says
Hi Eric, for such a wide range of temperature the best option for you would be a canvas tent. Such tents are the closest to what can be described as true 4-season tents. They are cool for summer camping and give some insulation as well. The fabric is breathable and the atmosphere is pleasant. You can find them in the price range you mentioned, but if you want a tent with rooms then those are more expensive.
But if you would rather take a synthetic tunnel tent, check this REI Kingdom 8, or perhaps this Robens Midnight Dreamer 4 Person Tent.
Eric says
Thank you so much!
Juan says
Hi. I have 2 tents: The Coleman Weathermaster 6 and the Coleman Cabin Camping Tent with Screen Room 6 person (the second was a gift). I used the first one once, but the other time I haven’t used it yet. Which of the 2 do you consider to be better and why?
I have looked for comparisons, but I have not found any, and since I am not an expert on the subject, I would like to know your opinion
Thanks!
JV says
Hi Juan, I might write a comparison text, these are popular tents and this would make sense. It is hard to say which is better because this is more a matter of preference. The tents are of different types, the WeatherMaster has straight walls so it looks like a cabin tent, then there is a hinged door, it is taller.
The WeatherMaster is without a floor in the screen area, the second tent has a floor. The level of protection is similar. The second tent packs much better.
Juan says
If you had to choose, which one would you choose and why?
JV says
The editor’s choice is given in the text. But this is not simple to answer, there are many different designs. It depends on: i) The number of people I have with me. ii) The means of transport, some tents are long when packed and they need a car, but some can be transported on a motorbike. iii) Climate. It is important to choose an appropriate screen room and the tent as a whole.
Becky says
Hello! What is the name of the tent in the top photo?
JV says
As fas as I know this tent is not available on the market. You have the same concept in this Chinook Twin Peaks Guide 6-Person Plus Tent.
destin says
Wow. Such an informative post you share that gives the visitors full guideline.
JV says
Many thanks.
Your mom says
Wont let me copy the name of a tent to post in amazon cause website owner thinks your “stealing his work” by trying to easily look up his suggestions
JV says
Hi, sorry for the bad experience. This is introduced for people who build their sites by copy-pasting texts from other sites. We shall consider your experience and perhaps remove this feature to avoid having disappointed readers. But no need to copy the name of a tent, just follow the links given in the text.
Geodesic tent says
Excellent product, I know a company such a patriot who make such tents on different occasions, if you need someone then you can contact them.
JV says
Hi, not sure which tent you are referring to.
