What Is The Best 6 Person Family Camping Tent?

What would be the best 6 person family camping tent for the coming season? Here I argue that there is no way to make a unique ranking list, there are various types that cannot be compared and this is in particular in this 6-person size range which includes so many different types of tents.

What types of tents you can expect

If you look around on this site, you will realize that this particular group of 6-person family camping tents includes a plethora of very different designs. These include:

• Dome-type tents.
• Extended dome type tents.
• Instant tents.
• Cabin-type tents.
• Instant cabin type tents.
• Tunnel-shaped tents.
• Teepee tents.
• Screened tents. These include either a floorless screened porch or a floored screened room.
• 3-room tents.
• 2-room rents.
• Single room tents.
• Air-beam tents. These tents have been around for some time already, but this industry has been growing recently.
• Winter or cold weather tents. The meaning should be obvious.
• Insulated tents. This is a special sort, designed both for cold weather and for ordinary 3-season use.
• Dark rest tents. This is a new trend in the family camping tents industry.
• Tents designed for a wood stove. Yes, you are reading correctly, and you will see the best example of this type below.

The meaning of many of these types should be obvious, but you can read more about the cabin-type tents in my separate text. The instant cabin tents are described in this text. So all these models are presented here. You will see that some of the tents include several of these features. For example, you can have an instant cabin tent with 2 rooms, which therefore includes the three of the features mentioned above. Or you can have an extended dome tent with 2 rooms, so again three features in one tent.

There is an incredible diversity here also regarding the prices. It sounds incredible but the most expensive tent in the list is around 27 times more expensive than the most affordable tent.

1. Coleman Valdes Deluxe 6 XL Air BlackOut Bedroom Family Tent

This tent offers a floor area of 244.3 ft² (22.7 m²), and it has a fully closable porch that adds 75.3 ft² (7 m²). Because of these numbers, it is also in my list of extra large family camping tents.

It is a 4-room structure, but the mentioned porch is practically one extra floorless room. The tent can be described as a 3-season tunnel-type structure, it is with solid windows, and supported with inflatable beams. I have included it also in my list of best inflatable tents for camping.

The inner tents are from a very dark material so this is an excellent dark-rest tent as well. The tent is tall and it has many vents. The weight is substantial, it weighs 84.7 lb (38.4 kg).

2. Coleman Oak Canyon 6 Tunnel Tent

The Coleman Oak Canyon 6 Tunnel Tent is 6-person officially, but the floored area it offers is 239 ft² (22.25 m²). So if necessary, its fully protected living room can accommodate 6 more people. This is a 4-room construction.

There are two inner tents with 3 bedrooms and they are what they call the BlackOut design that blocks 99% of the daylight. This allows for climate and temperature control. This is why it is also in my list of best dark rest tents.

The tent can be used in all seasons. It is nicely ventilated, the fabric is with a huge waterproof rating, and the windows are solid. The weight is 60 lb (27.2 kg).

3. Crua Loj 6 Person Thermo Insulated Waterproof Family Tent

This incredible tunnel-shape tent offers no less than 235 ft² (22 m²) of the inner area, and the total protected area with the porch included is 300 ft² (28 m²). The tent is insulated, with a unique internal cocoon room that offers enough space for 6 people. But you also have a huge sitting room, completely floored, and the mentioned porch and vestibule in front of the tent.

This is a 3-room tent built from breathable materials, fully waterproof, and with an impressive waterproof rating. I have included it also in my text about dark rest tents because of its unique inner room, which is also soundproof. This tent offers full protection in all seasons, and it works equally well in a cold environment and for summer camping.

4. Outwell Hartsdale 6PA Prime Air 6 Man 3 Room Inflatable Tunnel Tent

This great tent has a floored area of 220.3 ft² (20.46 m²) organized into 3 rooms, plus a porch with 37.7 ft² (3.5 m²) of the area visible in the picture. So this is a camping castle for 6 users. No doubt it can accommodate far more users, but this is its official capacity.

The inner rooms of this tent are built from a dark material so it belongs to the group of dark-rest tents. This is also an inflatable tent, with air beams instead of classic poles, and this is why it is included in my list of best inflatable tents.

You have 2 external doors, plus inner doors with magnetic closure. Note also that it is equipped with solid tinted windows. The tent weighs 63.3 lb (28.7 kg), and its overall dimensions are 18.5 x 17.4 ft (565 x 530 cm).

5. Zempire Aerodome II Pro 6 Person Tent

The tent is for 6 people, but the large area is divided into 4 rooms plus a porch, and the inner floored area is 220 ft² (20.4 m²). The porch adds 90.4 ft² (8.4 m²). This is why I have included it also in my list of extra large family camping tents. The peak height is 90.6 inches (230 cm), and from the picture you realize that it is quite tall everywhere.

It has 3 doors, but one of them on the front you can open in a variety of ways, so it can be described also as a tent with 4 or 5 doors. As typical for their Pro series, it has an incredibly strong fabric and a high waterproof rating. Ventilation is excellent here, and the windows are tinted.

6. Vango Purbeck Tent 600

This Vango Purbeck Tent 600 is with an official capacity of 6 people, and imagine how impressive this is when you have  5 rooms. The area is incredibly large, it offers 208.6 ft² (19.38 m²) in the floored area plus 70 ft² (6.5 m²) under the porch. This is why it is also in my list of extra large family camping tents.

The tent has 6 + 2 solid windows. There are 2 external plus 4 inner doors. This is a tunnel tent with a huge waterproof rating, suitable for almost all seasons. The weight is 49.6 lb (22.5 kg)

7. Hi-Gear Hampton 6 Nightfall Family Tent

This tent has a total inner area of 202 ft² (18.8 m²) and the porch adds 41 ft² (3.8 m²). This is a 3 room structure that includes two bedrooms that are in the inner tent, and a large living room. There is also a porch visible in the picture. The bedrooms are dark rest type and the tent is also in my list of best dark rest tents.

It has large panoramic solid windows and it is also very tall. There are two doors, one under the porch and one on the side. The tent is nicely ventilated, and you also have an E-cable port. The weight is 56.4 lb (25.6 kg) and the overall dimensions are 19.5 x 12.47 ft (595 x 380 cm).

8. Vango Stargrove II Air 600XL Tent

This tent is officially for 6 people but it offers an impressive floored area of 200 ft² (18.6 m²) organized into 4 rooms. There is also a fully protected porch with 75 ft² (7 m²).

As you see it is tunnel shaped but it has no solid poles, you have 5 inflatable beams. This is why it is also in my list of best inflatable tents. The waterproof rating is 3000 mm and all seams are taped. You also have EN ISO 5912 safety standard. There are 6 + 2 solid windows and E-cable ports.

It is quite heavy with its 56.2 lb (25.5 kg), but you have seen its size. The packed size is 31.5 x 18.1 x 18.1 inches (80 x 46 x 46 cm).

9. Berghaus Kepler 6 Nightfall Air Tent

The Berghaus Kepler 6 Nightfall Air Tent is huge with its 199 ft² (18.45 m²) of the floor area. It is also very tall with the peak height of 83.85 inches (213 cm).

You have skylight windows, and side mesh and solid windows. The structure includes 4 rooms plus a large porch. The bedrooms are dark rest type and the tent is supported by inflatable beams.

It is nicely ventilated and with an impressive waterproof rating. The weight is 83.8 lb (38 kg).

10. Crua Core Dome 6 Person Tent

This is a unique tent in the group. This is an air beam tent dome-shaped and this is one of its unique features. It offers 192 ft² (17.8 m²) of the inner floor area, but this is not all. You also have a porch which adds 67 ft² (6.25 m²) of the protected space. This is also the tallest tent here with a 7.5 ft (229 cm) peak height.

The Core 6 can be used in a combination which they call the Crua Clan that includes also the Cocoon Insulated tents and the Duo tents.

The waterproof rating is impressive 5000 mm so with such a tent you are safe in any weather conditions in a 3-season use. Please read more in my full review.

11. Outwell Woodburg 6A Air Tent

This Outwell Woodburg 6A Air Tent is a 6-person tent and this is why it is here. It offers a total floored area of 161.6 + 27.8 ft² (15.01 + 2.58 m²) and 52 ft² (4.83 m²) of the floorless porch area. This is also a tent with air beams, and it has 4 rooms in total, plus the mentioned porch. So  I have plenty of reasons to include it also in my list of best tents with 4 rooms.

The tent is tunnel-type with a huge waterproof rating for full protection from the elements. It includes 6 windows plus 2 external doors with 2 windows, there are also 6 inner doors, and many storage pouches. The tent weighs 54.7 lb (24.8 kg).

12. Crua Cottage Premium Quality 4-6 Person Family Tent

So you see from the official name of this tent that they describe it as a 4-6 person tent, but the floor area is 188 ft² (17.5 m²), plus the area in what they call the Sun Room where you have 67.3 ft² (6.25 m²). It has three rooms with a sewn-in and sealed floor plus the mentioned Sun Room that is without floor but fully functional as a room. It has also a porch.

The sleeping rooms are insulated, this is why I have included it also in my list of best insulated tents. These same rooms are also dark rest rooms because the light is completely blocked, and I have added it to my list of best dark-rest tents.

The tent has features of a cabin-type and a tunnel-type tent, and it is with a peak height of 8.2 ft (250 cm). So it is included in my list of very tall family camping tents. This is also one great example of poly-cotton tents, breathable and waterproof. All in all, this is a tent for all seasons and all climates. The weight is 172 lb (78 kg).

13. Coleman Tent Cook 6 Person

This tent is here because of its declared 6-person capacity. But it offers 184 ft² (17.1 m²) of the inner area in its 4 rooms. So this is a huge camping tent with lots of comfort. I have included it also in my list of best 4 room tents.

The tent has 3 doors, PVC windows, and a huge waterproof rating, and because of such a structure, it is also in my list of tents for cold weather camping. The floor is fully sewn-in, and it comes with an E-cable port. It is a very typical tunnel tent, and the poles are fiberglass.

14. Coleman WeatherMaster 6 Person Screened Tent

So why is this tent in the list? As the name suggests, this is a screened tent. It offers 9.2 + 6.7 m² in the main room and in the screened room.

This is also a tent with a hinged door. The tent is basically the cabin type, with very steep and high walls, the peak height is 80 inches (203 cm). The poles are very strong 19 mm thick steel. All in all, this is an incredibly livable summertime family camping tent.

15. Coleman Ridgeline 6 Person Tent

This Coleman Ridgeline 6 Person Tent is really nicely designed and it offers an area of 144 ft² (13.4 m²). The picture above shows that this is an extended dome type with extensions on the sides that look like tunnel-type structures.

So you have 3 rooms here. There are inner tents on the sides within the shell tent, each with a capacity for 3 people. The central area is with a removable linked-in type floor.

The tent is suitable for 3-season camping, you have a high waterproof rating and the poles are fiberglass. There are 2 doors and several solid windows. It allows for an awning configuration with included poles, see the picture. This is a very affordable tent.

16. OLPRO Orion 6 Berth Tent

Here you have a 6 person tent with a 3-room configuration. This is a tunnel-type tall tent with a peak height of 78.74 inches (200 cm). The awning can be set up on any of its 3 doors. It comes with 6 solid windows and with a huge waterproof rating.

Ventilation is very good, it has multiple vents, some are visible in the picture, and its doors are with full size zippered mesh. The poles are a combination of steel and fiberglass. The weight is 39.9 lb (18.1 kg) and the floored area is 142 ft² (13.2 m²).

17. Bushnell Instant Pop-Up 6-Person Tent

This tent is with the floor area of 138 ft² (12.8 m²) so this is quite enough for 6 people. It is also enormously tall and easy to use cabin type, the peak height is 94 inches (239 cm). This is why it is also in my list of very tall camping tents.

It has four integrated panels on three sides and on the roof, with X-crossed poles that are pre-attached to it. So you simply unfold the tent and then pull out those orange loops visible in the picture. This explains the words Instant and Pop-Up in its name. 

The tent is fully freestanding and very pleasant with its 8 windows. It is also nicely ventilated, you have both floor and roof vents, plus all those mesh windows and mesh ceiling. The weight is 37.8 lb (17.1 kg),

18. Robens Cabin 600 Adventure 6 Man Tunnel Tent

This Robens Cabin tent is with a declared capacity of 6 people. The area is 137 ft² (12.7 m²) so this is more than enough for such a number of users, and in fact, it can accommodate at least two people more.

The word Cabin in the name may be confusing because this is a true tunnel tent. I have added it to my list of best tunnel tents. The poles are aluminum with 16 mm diameter so this is a very strong construction. The tent weighs 34.4 lb (15.6 kg).

This is a 4-season tent. The waterproof rating is 5000 mm for the fly and 10000 mm for the floor, but the inner tents have their additional floors so the combined waterproof rating in this part is 13000 mm. It is tested for winds of up to 110 km/h, you have a fully sewn-in floor and 4 solid PVC windows. All vents and openings can be closed which is why I have added it to my list of tents for cold weather camping. But it also has numerous vents and the huge door is with one mesh layer so you can use it also for warm-weather camping.

The tent is with 3 rooms, a living room plus an inner area with two sleeping rooms separated by a zippered divider. This sleeping area includes two tents within the external shell tent. You can remove one of them or both if you wish and you can have a 2-room or a single-room structure.

19. WHITEDUCK Regatta Canvas Bell Tent Premium

This WHITEDUCK Regatta Canvas Bell Tent Premium is officially for 6 people and for this you have a large area of 132.7 ft² (12.6 m²). It comes with an integrated pipe jack, and it is included in my list of tents with a stove pipe. It is also a breathable and waterproof 100% cotton canvas tent suitable for all seasons. It comes with a sewn-in floor and 3 windows. 

The tent is also nicely ventilated with 4 vents, and it is very high, so this is why I have added it to my list of very tall tents. You have an E-cable port included. It weighs 66 lb (30 kg) and the diameter is 13 ft (400 cm).

20. Marmot Guest House 6-Person Tent

This tent is a luxurious option for 6 people with the inner area which is 129.3 ft² (12.1 m²) and with 3 vestibules so the total covered area is 163.3 ft² (15.3 m²).

The tent an extended dome by construction and offers 4 doors and 2 rooms. It is also very tall with a peak height of 76 inches (193 cm), and with many storage pockets, so this is a pleasant structure.

The poles are top quality DAC aluminum and the fly is with 1500 mm waterproof rating. The floor is with a 2000 mm rating. There are vents on the fly. I have included it also in my list of best tents with full fly.

21. Timber Ridge 6 Person Glamping Tent

This tent is for 6 people and for this it offers an area of 129 ft² (12 m²), so this looks generous for such a number of users. It weighs 33 lb (15 kg).

The tent is very tall and with an octagonal base, its peak height is 98 inches (249 cm). It is built as a single-layer structure, but it is nicely ventilated, this means that you have low and high vents, and also several large windows.

The fabric is a very durable polyester, and you also have a cable port. The price of this tent is hard to match.

22. Robens Klondike Tent

This Robens Klondike is a very exceptional tent in many ways. I have included it also in my list of tents for cold weather but this is also a true 4-season tent. You should know that it comes with an integrated stovepipe port on the top. It is also equipped with a floor zipper which you can unzip and roll the floor party to the side when you put a stove inside.

But you can remove the floor as a whole, it has yet another zipper that runs along the perimeter and it creates a bathtub structure. This means you can use the tent as a canopy only. There are 3 floor vents or windows and they are with mesh and canvas. But you also have 2 top vents with an integrated pulley system and you can open and close them from inside.

The peak height is 106.3 inches (2.7 m) and I have included it in my list of very tall tents for camping. The fabric is a blend of polyester and cotton, a waterproof material, but they did not use any coating so the tent is breathable. It is in the list here because of its declared capacity of 6 people and you have 127 ft² (11.8 m²) of the floor area.

23. Snow Peak Zekka Tent

It is not easy to properly position this tent here because it comes with only one inner tent that it offers around 5.8 square meters for three people. But you can order one more and attach it inside. On the other hand, the total covered space is more than 2015 ft² (20 m²).

In any case, this is an incredibly well-built and reliable and functional tent that offers full protection in all weather conditions and in all seasons.

You have top quality materials and a top-level craftsmanship. The tent is very tall and it comes with great panoramic windows and a skylight window. It is freestanding and supported with aluminum poles. Ventilation is also excellent here. A footprint for the inner tent is included.

The tent weighs 66.1 lb (30 kg) and its dimensions are 28.9 x 13.8 ft (880 x 420 cm). Its peak height is 7.5 ft (230 cm).

24. ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek Two-Room Tent

The Camp Creek Two Room tent is the larger 2-room version from the Camp Creek series which also includes a single room 6-person tent. So here you have more space and the tent is organized in two rooms each with its own entry door. This is a pleasant and very tall structure with a peak height of 84 inches (213 cm) and with many windows on all sides.

The floor area is 120 ft² (11.16 m²). The tent is with a decent waterproof rating of 1500 mm, and all materials are durable. The structure is cabin type as you realize from the picture so the tent is best used for summer camping.

25. Jack Wolfskin Great Divide RT Tent

This Jack Wolfskin Great Divide RT Tent is with an area of around 118 ft² (11 m²) and officially the tent is for 6 people. You have a 3-room structure that includes two inner tents plus a central living room. This is why I have included it also to my list of best 3-room tents.

This is a 3-season tent with aluminum poles and with a huge waterproof rating for full protection in all weather conditions. It is built as a tunnel type and it is nicely ventilated with its 5 vents. There are 3 doors and 4 windows, and the tent weighs 28.2 lb (12.8 kg).

26. Snow Peak Land Lock 6 Person Tent

The inner tent area which you have here is around 118 ft² (11 m²) but the total covered area is huge, it is around 270 ft² (25 m²). This impressive tent is a tunnel type but it is freestanding. It comes with 4 large entry doors, 2 inner doors, 2 awnings, 6 windows, and this is a 2-room structure.

I have included it in the list of cold-weather tents for camping but the truth is that it is more than that, this is a 4-season tent. The poles are strong aluminum and the waterproof rating is in the range of 1800 mm and 3000 mm. The inner tent under the shell is with all closed areas so you have complete protection.

This is an impressive construction and a modular design that you can use also for family events at home. In such a case you simply detach the inner tent and you have a great shelter in the garden. Please follow the link for much more.

27. Browning Echo 6-Person Tent

This tent is light enough even to be carried on the trail, it weighs only 13 lb 3 oz (6 kg), so I have included it also in my list of 6 person tents for backpacking.

Note also that it is ultra compact. It can be described as a true 3-season tent with its full coverage fly and 2 vestibules. It offers 100 ft² (9.3 m²) of the inner floored area, but under the vestibules you have additional 15 + 15 ft² (1.4 + 1.4 m²). So this is lots of extra space for storage of gear.

The tent is supported with quality aluminum poles. You also have two doors, and there are two fly vents as well. All in all, this is a nicely built and reliable tent from a renown brand.

28. Bushtec Adventure Nomad 6 Person Bow Tent

This tent is with an official capacity of 6 people and for this you have a floor area of 100 ft² (9.3 m²). This is an incredibly reliable but simple dome structure, a canvas tent for all climates and all weather conditions, a true 4-season tent. I have included it also in my lists of best dome tents and cold weather tents for camping. 

The tent is a breathable canvas structure with a spring steel frame. It has 2 windows with mesh and panels on the sides, and a large door with the same double-layer design. The tent is very tall and it weighs 18 lb (8.2 kg),

29. Coleman 6 Person Sundome Tent

This is the most affordable of all tents in the list and this is the main reason for having it here. As of the moment of writing this text, its price is from $63 and up, so follow the link below to see more. This tent is with a partial-coverage fly which protects mainly the ceiling. So you do not have vestibules, but you still have a lot of the inner space.

This tent is for very mild summer weather conditions and I would not use it if you expect a lot of rain; see the models above if this is the case. The setup is very easy, typical for the dome-style tent, so you have only two main poles here, plus a short ridge pole that creates small awnings on the front and on the back.

Note that the tent has windows, and due to the awnings, they can be kept open all the time. So you will not have condensation issues with this tent.

The tent is suitable for 3 seasons, and it is nicely ventilated with fly and floor vents. It is supported by fiberglass poles, and it has 3 + 1 windows. The weight is 20.5 lb (9.32 kg) and the inner area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²). The peak height is 6 ft (183 cm).

This Eureka Copper Canyon LX 6 Family Tent is a cabin-type freestanding family camping tent. Its design is such that you should use it in moderate summer conditions, and the main reasons for including it to the list are its livability and great design.

This is a tent for mild summer conditions without too much rain. But in the case of rain, all these huge windows and the door are with waterproof panels, so you will just zip them up.

The tent is without the vestibule, so all the protected space is inside, and because of this, you might downgrade it to 4 – 5 people only.

The tent is very tall and its steep walls are such that you can put any bunk cots here. In such a case you can easily have the prescribed number of people in this tent.

The official capacity is 6 people but the floor area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²) so it is best to downgrade this by half. The tent is heavy, it weighs 68 lb (30.8 kg) and it is also bulky when packed. This is a non-freestanding design, and you have 18 steel stakes included in the package to stake it down properly. You have two doors, and two separate mesh windows are double-layer structures with mesh and panels.

34. Pacific Pass 6 Person Family Dome Tent with Screen Room

This Pacific Pass 6 Person Family Dome Tent with Screen Room is here because of its declared capacity of 6 people. But this is also one of the screen room tents as you see in the picture above. The screen room is floored but it does not offer full protection from the rain, you will see that it is very similar to the Coleman tent shown below.

The inner area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²) and the screen room area is around 29 ft² (2.7 m²). This is a cool-looking tent, well-ventilated, and lightweight. It weighs 16.5 lb (7.5 kg). You will want to know that it is incredibly affordable.

35. White Duck Outdoors Family Explorer Deluxe 10 x 10 Camping Tent

This White Duck Explorer Deluxe is here in the list because of its declared 6-person capacity. So what you have here is a canvas camping tent with a flex-bow steel structure and the total area is 100 ft² (9.3 m²). Note also that and the tent is quite heavy, it weighs 89 lb (40.4 kg) and it is also bulky when packed, 49 x 14 x 10 inches (124 x 36 x 25 cm). However, if you are familiar with canvas camping tents, you will know that these numbers are quite typical.

This Robens Green Castle 6 Person Tent offers an area of 100 ft² (9.27 m²). You have a tunnel-shape 3-room structure with some interesting and unique features. The tent can be described as a shelter for all seasons. Its waterproof rating is huge and the poles are quality aluminum.

There are 2 doors both visible in the picture above. You can have an awning configuration with the door flap. The floor in the central room is not sewn-in, and it extends under one of the inner tents.

The tent weighs 21.2 lb (9.6 kg), its overall dimensions are 181 x 92.5 inches (460 x 235 cm), and its peak height is 61 inches (155 cm).

The declared capacity of this Bushnell Shield Series 11′ x 9′ Instant Cabin Tent is 6 people, and for this you have the inner area of 99 ft² (9.2 m²). The tent is nicely designed with its 5 windows and the front awning. It comes with steel poles so this is a very strong and stable construction. Multiple storage pouches are on the front underneath the awning.

This is a tent with the declared 60 seconds setup time. So I have added it to my list with best instant tents for camping. It comes with an E-cable port, gear loft, reflective fly for UV protection, and a large door. It weighs 26 lb (11.8 kg). Note also that this is a very affordable tent.

38. Columbia Modified 6 Person Dome Tent

This Columbia Modified 6 Person Dome Tent offers 99 ft² (9.2 m²) of the floor area and this is why it is in such a position here in the list. This is one of their series of freestanding tents with fiberglass poles, and a magnetic door as a unique feature.

You will want to know that the tent is very affordable, and it is easy to use and versatile. There is one door, and the tent weighs 18.4 lb (8.3 kg). I have included it also in my separate list of dome tents.

39. Core 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent

This is the first of the instant tents here, and it is also the cabin type. So you have an incredibly easy setup under one minute. If you are on a cross-country tour or any other tour where you change the place frequently and need an easy setup tent, this is the one to consider.

The tent is very pleasant and livable, with huge windows and a huge door. But note that you do not have a vestibule here for the storage of the gear. Though the inner space is really good, and if you use the car to keep some gear there, you will be doing great with this tent.

40. Core 6 Person Instant Cabin Tent with Full Rainfly

This tent is from a new series which this brand launched recently. It combines several useful features. You have an instant setup cabin style tent, but its name also tells you that it comes with a full coverage fly for a complete rain protection.

As you know, cabin type tents with such a fly are not so frequent on the market. From the picture you can also see that the fly is designed so that you can roll it up and have views around when it is not raining.

The tent is fully freestanding, and supported with a strong steel frame. You have 3 separate windows, plus one on its door.

Here are a few numbers. The tent weighs 23 lb (10.4 kg) and its floor area is 99 ft² (9.18 m²).

41. Marmot Torreya 6 Person Camping Tent

Here you have a very typical dome-style tent that is also very tall, the peak height is 80 inches (203 cm). This is a 3-season-plus two-layer outdoor shelter with quality aluminum poles. It offers 2 doors and 2 vestibules created by its full-coverage fly. This is why the tent is in my list of best tents with a full fly.

The tent comes with a pair of extra poles for the awning shown in the picture. The weight is 22 lb 4 oz (10.09 kg) and the inner floor area is 98 ft² (9.1 m²). The two vestibules add 25 + 12 ft² (1.9 + 1.1 m²). So this is quite a good space for 6 users.

42. Coleman Cabin Camping Tent with Screen Room

This is a 6 person tent and this is why it is here in the list, and it offers an area of around 97 ft² (9 m²). The tent is nicely designed as a tunnel-type structure in spite of the word Cabin in the name, so it is included in my list of best tunnel tents for camping. It is beautifully designed and pleasant, most suitable for summer camping, with windows on all sides.

Note that they build it in two different variants, without and with a waterproof porch. The tent has one door, one screen room in front, and an e-cable port. It is also in my list of best screen room tents. Note that the screen room is floored. The tent is very affordable. It weighs 32.5 lb (14.74 kg).

43. Marmot Halo 6 Person Tent

This tent has been on the market at least 7 – 8 years already, always very popular and highly appreciated. But they have modified it recently and further improved it, so what you see here is its latest 2018 version.

As you realize, this is a full fly tent and I have included it in my list of full-coverage tents. The tent is also dome-style but it has an extra pole on the front which adds lots of space on the front of one of the doors. There are two doors here and two vestibules, and you have 96.7 + 64 ft² (9 + 6 m²) of the protected area.

The tent packs nicely to only 25 x 14 in (64 x 36 cm) so you can transport it even on a motorbike, but it is quite heavy. The waterproof rating is quite good, so you have 1800 mm on the fly and 3000 mm on the floor. With this and the full fly, you will be protected in any weather conditions. 44. NEMO Wagontop 6 Person Tent

This is a very tall and livable, 2-room family camping tent, and the word `wagontop’ describes its unusual shape which looks like old wagons. The tent offers 9 square meters of the area in the inner zone plus 2.5 square meters in a very functional vestibule.

This is a cabin-type tent with vertical walls, so here you can use bunk beds and save the space even more. You have 2 doors, one on each side.

Ventilation windows are above both doors, equipped with storm flaps, but you can also keep them open all the time, they are protected by the vestibules. So you will not have issues with condensation.

This tent offers an inner area of 96 ft² (8.9 m²), and you also have a vestibule that adds 21.5 ft² (2 m²). The tent is not only with a full coverage fly, it is also a true double-layer suitable for cold weather camping.

This is a feature-rich dome type tent with 3 doors, reliable YKK zippers, fiberglass poles, an E-cable port, and unique cup-holders, plus plenty of storage pockets on the walls. The tent is with a high waterproof rating and a strong frame. The tent weighs 33 lb (15 kg),

46. Snow Peak Amenity Dome Tent L 6-People

This tent offers an inner area of 94 ft² (8.7 m²), and it has 2 vestibules with 38.8 ft² (3.6 m²) + 6.5 ft² (0.6 m²). So the total covered area is 139.3 ft² (12.9 m²). This is a uniquely shaped extended dome tent and the unique feature is its main vestibule which is asymmetric and rotated so that it offers the side door which you see in the picture. But there is also the front door which allows an awning configuration, plus the back door.

The poles are strong aluminum and the inner tent is 68D polyester taffeta, so it is fully enclosed but there is a triangular section on the ceiling which can be closed to preserve warmth in a cooler environment. So this is why I have included this tent in my list of tents for cold weather camping, but this is a true 4-season tent.

The inner doors are both with panels and with mesh for air crossflow, and there is also a vent on the fly. So this should work well even in a warm environment. The fly is 75D polyester taffeta with PU coating and water resistance 1800 mm minimum. The floor is 210D polyester Oxford with PU coating water resistance 1800 mm minimum.

47. Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 

There are many reasons for having this tent on the list. This is the new version of the iconic tent which has been on the market for many years. You might say that this is an extended cabin-type tent. So you have the main dome plus an extended section, and the tent comes with a divider so this is a 2-room tent.

The tent offers 8.5 square meters in the main two rooms + 3 square meters in the 2 vestibules, so this is all protected space here.

It is declared as a 3-season plus tent so you can use it in conditions close to winter type. There is no tent on the list which would match its storage features which include 16 huge storage pockets plus two vestibules.

48. Big Agnes Mad House Mountaineering Tent 6 Person

They have built this tent as a 4-season version of their Big Agnes Flying Diamond tent, so what you have here is an incredible 2-wall structure with mesh sections that are all equipped with zippered panels. The picture above shows it without the fly so you can see the mentioned mesh areas.

This is a 2-room, 2-door, and 2-vestibule structure, an extended dome supported by quality aluminum poles. The fly is a full-coverage type and you have no less than 6 vents.

There are 16 storage pouches to keep the gear off the ground. The weight is 21 lb 8 oz (9.75 kg) and the floor area is 94 ft² (8.7 m²). The two vestibules add 25 + 6 ft² (2.3 + 0.5 m²) of the protected area.

49. Coleman 6-Person Connectable Tent

This is, without doubt, the most unique tent here in the list, a connectable tent that can be zipped to three other tents of this type or with smaller 3-person tents from the same series. The picture above shows this 6-person tent connected with a 3-person tent.

So this is a new series by Coleman, a fully freestanding cabin-style tent with 4 doors and two separate windows. Note that those doors are double-layer structures so they have windows on them as well. Three of the doors are used to connect the tent with other tents.

This is a Fast Pitch design with a hub element attached to the tent, with steel legs poles and fiberglass roof poles. The area is 90.4 ft² (8.4 m²), and the peak height is 76 in (193 cm). Please follow the link to read my full review.

50. KAZOO Family Camping Tent Saturn

This KAZOO Family Camping Tent is with the declared capacity of 6-8 people but this is unrealistic and I have included it in the group of these 6-person tents. This is a nicely built instant tent, freestanding cabin with a full-coverage fly so I have added it to my list of tents with full fly. It comes with a high waterproof rating and aluminum poles so you have full protection in a 3-season use.

The tent has 2 fly windows, one is visible in the picture above, 2 huge doors, and it is very tall. The weight is 17.85 lb (8.1 kg) and the area is 90.3 ft² (8.4 m²).

51. Mountainsmith Cottonwood 6P Tent

This is a 6 person tent so let’s see what it offers. The inner area is 90 ft² (8.4 m²) and you also have a porch or vestibule area which is 29.5 ft² (2.7 m²). The tent is with a full-coverage fly and it so lightweight that I have included it in my list of best 6-person backpacking tents, note that it weighs only 13 lb 5 oz (6.04 kg).

You have a great waterproof rating here, 2000 mm for the fly and 5000 mm for the floor. There are 3 poles and they are all aluminum. The structure is a simple dome plus a pole that supports the porch. There are also some unique features; the tent is with windows on the fly. Note also that this is a very affordable tent, only $160 as of the moment of writing this text.

52. Coleman Carlsbad 6 Person Tent

Here you have a tent that incorporates several extraordinary features:

• The dark test technology.
• The fast-pitch design.
• The screen room.

You have a total area of 40 ft² (13 m²), though the screen room is not fully protected, so the truly protected zone is the inner room with the dimensions 10 x 9 ft (3.05 x 2.74 m) which means 8.36 square meters. This can accommodate 6 sleeping pads on the ground.

The tent is dome-style so a bit low, with a peak height of 68 in (173 cm). The packed size is great 26 x 11 x 11 inches (66 x 28 x 28 cm), and the same holds for the price. Please see more in my detailed review.

This Columbia Mammoth Creek 6 Person Cabin Tent is a cabin-style tent as you realize from the picture above. It is freestanding and beautifully designed, with tall and steep walls. This is a pleasant summer camping tent with 3 windows and a floor vent. The fly is minimal and it clips to the corners.

The total area is 90 ft² (8.36 m²) and this is why the tent is in such a position here in the list. The peak height is 72 inches (183 cm). The tent comes with fiberglass poles, a floor vent, and with an E-cable port.

54. Ozark Trail 6-Person Dark Rest Instant Cabin Tent

This is the most typical dark rest tent here in the list and this is the main reason for adding it here. So it is built of dark materials and the ceiling is a 3-layer design that includes the fly, the mesh ceiling, and dark panels with zippers. With such panels, you can regulate the amount of sunlight in the tent. Note that you also have vinyl windows on the fly, which is a distinctive feature of the tent.

Many of the features of this tent are already in its name. So as you realize this is an instant tent and cabin-type as well, so you can set it up in 60 seconds. This makes it a great choice for people who change their camping place frequently. But its main feature is its darkroom design of course, and I would add the price as well; with its $111 price tag, this is one of the most affordable tents here.

This is dome tent in spite of the word Cabin in the name, and it is very tall tent with an incredible 84 inches (213 cm) peak height. It is nicely ventilated and supported with thick aluminum poles.

As you realize from the picture, the fly is a full coverage type and with a great waterproof rating for a full protection in a 3-season camping. 

The tent weighs 34 lb (15.4 kg) and it has one door and one vestibule.

56. CORE 6 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent 10′ x 9′

This CORE 6 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent 10′ x 9′ is a nicely built reliable and freestanding structure. You have 5 windows with mesh and panels, and one door. Note that the tent has two floor vents, one is visible in the picture above, so it offers excellent ventilation. This, as well as its shape, makes it perfect for summer camping.

The weight is 18.6 lb (8.4 kg) and the area is 90 ft² (8.3 m²). The poles are a combination of steel and fiberglass. Note also that this is a very affordable tent.

57. Core 6 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent with a Screen Room

Here you have a nicely-ventilated tent with 2 floor vents and lots of mesh on the ceiling and on its 5 windows. So it is very suitable for summer camping. The picture above shows it without the fly, but it has a fly that covers the ceiling. The poles are steel and fiberglass. The front screen room is without a floor and there are no panels on the walls.

The tent weighs 24 lb (10.9 kg). The floored area is 90 ft² (8.3 m²), and the screen room is 50 ft² (4.6 m²). This is a nicely built and reliable tent.

Here you have a 6-person tent that offers a floor area of 90 ft² (8.3 m²). This is an easy to use freestanding summer camping tent, and its name and the picture above tell you that it is built in the cabin style. Being an instant tent, as expected, it is with a pre-attached frame, so only the fly is a separate part.

You have two separate windows, plus two windows on the door. All of them are with mesh and with zippered panels.

With such great windows and a mesh ceiling, the tent offers lots of ventilation. But in the case of rain, when you close all this, you also have a floor vent.

The most interesting detail is that overhanging fly that is supported with extended eaves. It partly protects the door and the windows.

The tent weighs 25 lb (11.3 kg), and its peak height is 72 inches (183 cm).

59. Mountain Hardwear Bridger 6 Tent

This Mountain Hardwear Bridger 6 Tent comes with a full coverage fly that creates also a porch and two vestibules. The inner floored area is relatively small, you have 89.4 ft² (8.3 m²). But note that the total covered area that you have here is more than 17 square meters.

With such a huge protected space, the tent is relatively lightweight with its 23 lb 15.4 oz (10.9 kg) weight. There are incredibly many storage pouches, only in the porch area you have them 6, plus several more inside.

The tent is supported with quality aluminum poles, and you also have a bonus footprint included. The peak height is 73 inches (185 cm), so the tent is relatively low profile and aerodynamic, and it will perform great even in very windy places.

61. Coleman 6 Person Instant Tent 

There are several good reasons why this tent is on the list. This is an enormously popular tent which has been on the market for a number of years already. The tent includes several features mentioned in the introduction above, so it is instant, and it is a cabin-type tent. In addition to this, this is a tent with an integrated fly. So this is a single-layer type with a waterproof roof, but if you want extra protection they sell a fly separately.

Obviously, the tent is very livable with such great windows, but it is without a vestibule, so space is what you have inside.

The windows and the door are with waterproof panels which you will use when it is raining, otherwise, you keep it open with the mesh on, so you have full protection from insects.

From the picture you realize what this is about. So this is a lightweight, compact, and easy to use simple dome type tent, fully freestanding and suitable for a 3-season camping.

It is supported with two main fiberglass poles, and it has one door and one window visible in the picture. 

Here are a few numbers you might want to know. The weight is 13 lb 14 oz (6.29 kg), the area is 87.6 ft² (8.1 m²), and the peak height is 68 inches (173 cm). So the tent is relatively low profile and aerodynamic.

63. Kelty Wireless Tent 6 Person

This Kelty Wireless 6 tent is relatively low here in the lust because of its modest inner area which is 87.2 ft² (8.1 m²). So this is just enough for 6 people. But note that it offers an extra 32 ft² (3 m²) under the two vestibules combined, and this is a useful space to store your camping gear.

The tent is from their new series launched for the season 2020. So this is a quite typical dome tent but it is surprisingly tall for such a type with a peak height of 76 inches (193 cm). The weight is 17 lb 3 oz (7.8 kg).

Here you have a feature unique to Kelty, and they call it Quick Corners design. It is without the usual grommets in the corners. They have added some sleeves that keep the poles in place and they will not jump out when you go to the other side to fix the pole in another similar corner.

64. Kelty Rumpus 6 Person Tent

This Kelty Rumpus 6 Person Tent is one from extended dome-style tents here. It has a full fly and it offers two doors and two vestibules. It is very tall for a dome tent, the peak height is 75.5 inches (192 cm).

The poles are fiberglass and the fabric is durable polyester. With such a fly you have a reliable tent for 3-season use. The tent weighs 18 lb 7 oz (8.37 kg) and its floored area is 85.7 ft² (8 m²). You also have a huge vestibule area of 42.9 ft (4 m²).

65. Kelty Tallboy 6 Person Tent

This Kelty Tallboy 6 Person Tent is what its name says, a 6-person tent and for this, you have a floor area of 86 ft² (8 m²). So this is a very simple and easy to use dome structure with one door and one window. The tent is fully freestanding, and the meaning of this is that the fly attaches to its corners so you can move it around even when the fly is on.

But this also implies that there are no vestibules for storage. You have fiberglass poles and the tent is lightweight with its 14 lb 1 oz (6.38 kg). So how tall is this Tallboy 6? Well, you have 72 inches (183 cm) peak height.

66. The North Face Wawona 6 Tent

You have only 86.11 ft² (8 m²) of the inner floor area here but there are a vestibule and a huge porch and they together give 21 ft² (2 m²) + 44.7 ft² (4.2 m²), respectively. So the total protected space is 151.8 ft² (14.2 m²), and per person, this gives 25.3 ft² (2.4 m²). As you realize, this is lots of space for a family camping.

The tent is a single-layer type and an extended dome. They do not provide the number for the waterproof rating but they claim it is with double-sided coating and fully waterproof. You have top-quality materials here and the tent is built to last. It will protect you in any weather conditions in a three-season use. Please read more in my full review.

67. Coleman Skydome 6 Tent with Full Fly

The Coleman Skydome 6 Tent with full fly and vestibule is here because of its official 6-person capacity. For this you have a floor area of 85 ft² (7.9 m²), and the mentioned vestibule area is 40 ft² (3.7 m²).

This is an affordable dome-shaped tent suitable for 3-season camping. The tent is supported by fiberglass poles, three of them in total. It has one door. The tent weighs 9 lb 5.4 oz (8.77 kg), and this is quite a tall tent for a dome, you have 72 inches (183 cm) peak height.

68. Coleman Montana 6 Person Tent

This Montana 6 has been on the market for many years and it is incredibly popular. This is not surprising when you see its price. So this is one of the extended dome tents with one door and one room. The total area which you have is 84 ft² (7.8 m²). 

The tent comes with fiberglass poles, you have an E-cable port, a pleasant awning supported by its own pole shown in the picture, and with side windows. The peak height is 68 inches (173 cm). Please follow the link to read more.

69. Sierra Designs Nomad 6 Person Tent

This Sierra Designs Nomad 6 Person Tent may look small because of its 84.4 ft² (7.84 m²) of the inner area, but there are also two vestibules so the total protected area is 120 ft² (11.1 m²). I would say this is impressive for the weight which is only 12 lb 13 oz (5.81 kg). I have included it in my list of best 6-person backpacking tents.

The tent is with a full-cover fly, and I have included it in my separate list with such tents. It has two doors you also have a vent on the fly. It comes with top-quality DAC aluminum poles. Note that it has an integrated window on the fly.

70. REI Base Camp 6 Tent

This tent is low in the list here because of its relatively small floored area of  83.7 ft² (7.78 m²), but it has also two vestibules that add 27 + 17 ft² (2.5 + 1.6 m²). So the total protected space is 127.7 ft² (11.9 m²) and for 6 people this is far from bad. Note that there are many storage pouches inside.

This is a 2-layer tent with a full fly and inner taffeta with floor vents and roof vents. All the openings can be closed. This is why it is included in my list of tents for cold weather camping.

This is a strongly built dome with quality aluminum poles that create 7 cross points, so the tent can withstand lots of wind or snow pressure. The weight is 20 lb 10 oz (9.36 kg), so this is indeed a basecamp tent and not to be carried anywhere.

This is a is very tall and pleasant extended dome type tent with three large windows. The peak height is 78 inches (198 cm). It offers a huge vestibule that has two doors, one is visible in the picture above.

In the inner tent you have a removable divider to create two bedrooms, and each of them has its own inner door. The tent comes with many storage elements, a cable port, and a great price tag. It is supported with fiberglass poles.

Here are a few numbers. The weight is 25.53 lb (11.6 kg), the inner area is 84 ft² (7.8 m²), and the porch area is impressive 62 ft² (5.8 m²).

This great tent is built with high-level workmanship, meticulously, and with attention to detail. This is one of the most reliable tents in the group, designed to last for years. This is a double-layer dome-style freestanding tent type at its best, an improved version of the tent that has been on the market for many years already.

The tent’s inner area is relatively small, but you have two asymmetric vestibules which add 3.6 square meters of a fully protected area for gear. All materials are of superior quality, and the design is such that it looks almost like a cabin tent, so it provides lots of volume.

You have two doors and two asymmetric vestibules that allow for the awning configuration shown in the picture above. It comes with top-quality aluminum poles and a full-cover fly and it is included in my list of best tents with a full fly.

This is a versatile design that allows for several different configurations, including a unique shelter mode configuration and a unique carry bag design. Note also this is a very tall tent with 81 inches (203 cm) peak height.

74. Coleman PEAK1 6-Person Dome Tent

From the position in this list you may guess that the inner area of this tent is not so large, so indeed it measures 120 x 100 inches (305 x 254 cm) and the inner area is 83 ft² (7.7 m²).

This is a nicely designed tent and its official capacity is 6 people, but the inner floor area is not so large, you have 83.3 ft² (7.7 m²), and the vestibules add 16 + 16 ft² (1.49 + 1.49 m²). The tent is a very typical dome-type construction supported by two X-crossed poles. This is a reliable and nicely ventilated tent with a full-coverage fly that creates the two mentioned vestibules.

The poles are aluminum poles and the waterproof rating is very good. Here are a few more numbers. The tent weighs 13.93 (6.32 kg). It is quite tall with its 6 ft (183 cm) peak height and it is very aerodynamic.

76. Eureka Space Camp 6 Person Tent

This Space Camp 6 is a new tent on the market which Eureka launched for the 2019 season. This is a strong structure with thick aluminum poles, a dome-type tent with legs poles that are almost straight, and pre-bent ceiling sections. As a result, it looks like a cabin-style tent.

The inner area is 83 ft² (7.7 m²) and this is not much for the declared 6-person capacity. But the tent is with two vestibules so the total area is 122.5 ft² (11.4 m²). The vestibules offer various configurations with their doors. The ventilation is excellent, there are 3 vents on the fly, plus a low vent configuration with one of the vestibule’s door.

This Dog House 6 is from the new series that Big Agnes launched recently. It provides a floor area of 81.8 ft² (7.6 m²) so this is why it is in such a position in the list.

This is a very light tent for its size, the minimum trail weight is 13 lb (5.9 kg), and the packed weight is 13 lb 7 oz (6.1 kg). Note also that the tent is very tall, the peak height is 80 inches (203 cm). 

This is a single-layer construction and this is partly behind its great weight. So as you see from the picture, you add the poles from outside. This is what you might call a dry setup, convenient if you have to pitch the tent when it is raining. You have quality fabric and DAC aluminum poles.

In view of its position in the list, this tent does not offer much of floored area. You have 82 ft² (7.6 m²). But its full coverage fly creates two vestibules that offer 15 + 15 ft² (1.4 + 1.4 m²) of useful storage space for gear. 

The tent is a dome-type and very tall with for its overall size, the peak height is 80 inches (203 cm). You have two doors, and the tent is very easy to use and reliable. It is supported with quality aluminum poles. Note that you have 8 storage pouches on the walls. The weight is 15 lb 4 oz (6.92 kg).

How to choose your 6-person family camping tent

So this was my list of the best 6 person tents for camping that are on the market now. As you realize, there are many different groups and types here, so how to choose?

• If this is about summer camping and in areas without much rain and wind, go for some of the cabin-style tents from the list above. The reason is that such tents have lots of mesh on the ceilings. They usually have mesh on windows, so this should give lots of air circulation which you need in such a climate.
• But if you expect strong winds or you plan to camp above the tree level, it is best to choose one of those dome-style tents with a full-coverage fly. Such tents are more aerodynamic than any other type, and they are usually low profile. Do not expect the best ventilation in such tents, many of them come without vents on the fly. So again, try to find one that has fly vents, this helps a lot in fighting condensation which cannot be avoided.
• If this is about camping in areas with lots of rain, then again go for the mentioned dome-style tents with a full-coverage fly. Yet another good option for such an environment is tunnel tents from the EU manufacturers, like tents from Vango. These tents are with vents, they are usually large, and they come with a high waterproof rating.
• If this is about camping in desert areas, this can be a bit difficult to choose. On one hand, you would want an enclosed design that protects you from dust. This you have in many of the tunnel-type tents here in the list, they come with PVC windows. This should work best in cold desert areas.
• On the other hand, if this is a warm desert area, you will need a tent with lots of vents that can be closed when necessary to protect you from the dust. So the mentioned tunnel tents with PVC windows are again a good option. But think about using canvas tents as well, they are suitable more or less for any environment and any climate.
• For cold weather camping in general, you have plenty of options in the list above. Definitely do not choose cabin tents, most of them have too many mesh areas that cannot be closed, so this is not the option for you. Therefore, go for canvas tents, and for tunnel tents with PVC windows. There are dome tents with a full fly that have inner tents with closable mesh sections, this is also the type you want in a cold area.
• If you will be moving a lot from place to place, after some time setting up the tent can become annoying. If so, then consider the instant tents shown above.
• If you plan some motorbike tours, you will want a nicely packable tent. So remember that instant tents are usually long when packed. This is why your best option should be some dome-style tent. Its other features should correspond to the area where you go.
• If you are in a sunny area, you might want to think about dark-rest designs. In such tents, you can sleep longer in the morning.
• Need a backpack-portable tent that can be carried on the trail? There are a few options in the list above, just to know those are always dome-style tents, they pack best and they are lightweight.
