My list of best 3 room tents for family camping 

The tents in the list below are ordered by the protected floor area, from smaller to larger. As you will realize the declared capacity doesn’t always imply a big area; sometimes a 12-person tent can be smaller than a 6-person capacity tent.

 

From the text below you will realize that the list includes the following types of tents:

• Dome-style tents. Here you have some great examples like the Coleman Red Canyon 8, and Ozark Trail 10 tent.
• Tunnel-type tents – the Crua Loj 6 tent and the Vango Capri tent and many more.
• The other tents are cabin-style. You will see some that look like a house.
• Some of the cabin tents are also instant tents, see the Core 12, Ozark Trail 15, and the Ozark Trail 16 x 16 tent.
• Some tents are freestanding (practically all cabin tents), and some are non-freestanding (the dome-style tents and the Crua Loj tent). The dome tents are not freestanding because of the extended sections on the sides of the main dome.
• Most of the tents here, with the exception of the Crua Loj tent and the Vango tents, are summer-camping tents and I would not put them to a very harsh test. Those are 1 – 2 seasons tents, e.g., to be used in summer, late spring, and early autumn. They all have mesh on the ceiling and huge windows, and such structures do not keep the warmth. So use them in mild and relatively warm weather conditions and don’t be fooled with texts where you see them described as 3-season tents.
• The Crua Loj 6 tent is the only insulated tent in the list. This is a structure beyond comparison in many ways.
• Inflatable tents. So these are without any metal pools, see the Moose 6 Tent as an example, but there are more of them in the list.

Although this Robens Midnight Dreamer 4 Person Tent is designed for 4 users, you have 3 rooms here, and the total area is 101 ft² (9.37 m²). There are two sleeping rooms and a large front living room.

The tent is with a huge waterproof rating, solid windows, and aluminum poles. The floor is fully sewn-in and sealed. So you have full protection in any weather conditions. There are two large doors visible in the picture. The weight is 26 lb (11.8 kg).

2. Vango Ringstead Air Adult Mixed Inflatable Tent

This Vango Ringstead Air Adult Mixed Inflatable Tent is with an official capacity of 4 people, but for this you have an area of 110 ft² (10.2 m²) organized in its 3 rooms. It comes with inflatable beams instead of classic poles and I have included it also in my list best inflatable tents.

The tent has a huge waterproof rating and it is suitable more or less for all seasons. The construction is tunnel type and this is also what they call a lights-out design or dark rest tent with reduced glare and daylight. It is included in my list of best dark rest tents. The tent is large and heavy, it weighs 38.1 lb (17.3 kg).

3. Coleman Unisex Adult Weathermaster 4 Air Tent

This tent is here because of it 3 rooms, and two of them in the sleeping area are a blackout part that blocks 99% of the sunlight. This is why I have included it also in my list of best dark rest tents. 

The tent is tall and pleasant tunnel-type with plenty of great features. The peak height is 78.74 inches (200 cm). It has 3 inflatable beams instead of classic poles. 

The tent is well-ventilated, with an E-cable port, and a barrier-free access. There are storm straps visible in the picture, and the shell is with a huge waterproof rating. You also have 3 solid windows. The weight is 42.3 lb (19.2 kg) and the inner area is 113 ft² (10.5 m²).

4. Easy Camp Hurricane 500 Inflatable Tunnel Tent

This Hurricane 500 tent is a 3-room structure with an inner tent that has two sleeping units, and with one large front room. So the front room has a place for two more people if necessary. But note that the tent is compact and this is why it is high on the list here, the area is 116.3 ft² (10.8 m²), and the weight is 34.8 lb (15.8 kg).

This is a tunnel tent by shape but here you have inflatable beams instead of classic poles. They create 3 loops typical for tunnel tents. I have included it also in my list of best inflatable tents.

The tent has 2 doors in the living room, one on the front and one on the side. You also have clear PVC windows. One thing you might want to know that this is a very affordable tent.

5. Ferrino Flow 4 Family Tent

This Ferrino Flow 4 Family Tent is a tunnel type structure with three rooms. You have an inner tent within the shell tent with two sleeping units, plus a large living room under the shell tent. It offers an area of 117.5 ft² (10.9 m²).

But this is also a tent with inflatable beams instead of classic poles, and this is why it is added to my list of tents with air beams. The tent has 3 doors and its waterproof rating is huge. It weighs 28.66 lb (13 kg).

6. Portal Outdoor Unisex’s Two Beta 6 Spacious 2 Bedroom Tent

As you realize from the picture, this Portal Outdoor Unisex’s Two Beta 6 Spacious 2 Bedroom Tent is an extended dome type tent. It is here because of its 3-room structure, so you have two inner tents under the shell, plus a central living room.

The poles are fiberglass, the tent is lightweight with its 24.91 lb (11.3 kg), and it offers an area of 117 ft² (10.9 m²). There is one door only and the tent allows for the awning configuration shown in the picture. It comes with a great price tag.

7. Coleman Spruce Falls 4 Person Family Tent

This tent has two inner tents that represent two sleeping rooms, and there is also a central room with a linked-in floor. You have here one of the darkest tents on the market, it blocks 99% of the light in its sleeping rooms.

It comes with a solid window and an impressive waterproof rating. The tent is an extended dome type structure. It is supported by fiberglass poles, and it is nicely ventilated. The weight is 31.7 lb (14.4 kg). The official capacity is 4 people and for this you have an area of 119 ft² (11 m²).

8. Coleman Tent Meadowood Air 4 Person

The structure of this tent is typical for a 3-room tunnel-type tent. So you have an inner tent with a divider, plus a living room in front of it. Note that it is with inflatable beams, there are 3 of them. Only the short brim pole is solid.

This is also a large 3-season tent with the floored area of 118 ft² (11 m²), and with a huge waterproof rating. Its official capacity is 4 people only but you have plenty of space here.

Yet another great feature here is its dark rest design that block 99% of the sunlight. This is why it is also in my list of best dark rest tents. The tent has solid windows, an e-cable port, it is tall and very pleasant, but it is heavy with its 43 lb (19.5 kg).

9. Jack Wolfskin Great Divide RT Tent

This Jack Wolfskin Great Divide RT Tent is a 3-room structure and it is here for all the good reasons. You have two inner tents plus a central living room. This is a 3-season structure with aluminum poles and with a huge waterproof rating for full protection in all weather conditions.

The tent is a tunnel type and nicely ventilated, you have no less than 5 vents. There are also 3 doors and 4 windows. It weighs 28.2 lb (12.8 kg) and the area is around 118 ft² (11 m²). Officially the tent is for 6 people.

10. Coleman Rocky Mountain 5 Plus Tent

The Rocky Mountain 5 Plus is with a declared capacity of 5 people so a relatively small tent, but it offers 120.5 ft² (11.2 m²) of the area and this means 24.1 ft² (2.24 m²) per person. The tent is a tunnel type with a living room on the front and two sleeping rooms behind.

This is also a tent with blackout technology (also known as the dark rest, or lights out, or dark room). So it blocks 99% of the daylight in the sleeping zone.

You have 4 PVC windows and the tent is fully enclosed and with an impressive waterproof rating of 4500 mm. This is a very reliable camping tent suitable for any weather conditions in a 3-season use. Please read more in my detailed review.

11. Zempire EVO TM V2 Tent

This tent has 3 rooms and its total floored area is 121 ft² (11.25 m²). It is supported with 4 air beams and there are no solid poles here. This is why it is also in my list of best inflatable tents.

The tent is tall and pleasant, the peak height is 210 cm, and it is with tinted and mesh side windows, and with skylight tinted windows. It is also nicely ventilated with with double-layer doors and with numerous vents. It is suitable for year round use, you have a very high waterproof rating and durable materials. The weight is 53.4 lb (24.2 kg).

12. Coleman Da Gama Unisex Outdoor Tunnel Tent

This Coleman Da Gama Unisex Outdoor Tunnel Tent is with a declared capacity of 4 people only, yet this is also an impressive 3-room structure. The total inner area is 121.6 ft² (11.3 m²).

What you have here you have a very reliable 3-season tent with steel poles, solid windows, and a huge waterproof rating. This I why I have included it also in my list of tents for cold weather camping.

The floor is fully sewn-in, the tent has 2 doors, it comes with floor vents and an E-cable port. The tent is heavy with its 37.7 lb (17.1 kg) weight but you have seen its size and the quality of poles.

This Coleman Tent Vail 4 Person is here because of its nice organization of the inner area that is separated into 3 rooms. One of them is a large living room with no less than 4 solid windows and 2 large doors.

The tent is tunnel-type and originally built for the EU market, so you have huge waterproof rating and full protection from the elements. The mentioned solid windows make it fully enclosed and very suitable for a cooler climate.

The weight is 33.7 lb (15.3 kg) and the overall dimensions are 12.8 x 9.8 ft (390 x 300 cm). The total floored area is 125 ft² (11.7 m²).

14. Coleman Coastline Deluxe Tent 4 Person

This Coleman Coastline Deluxe Tent 4 Person is a tunnel type organized into 3 rooms, and this is why it is here in the list. With solid windows and a huge waterproof rating, this is a quite enclosed structure, and I have included it also in my list of tents for cold weather camping.

You have a stand-up height in the bigger part of the tent. One unique feature is its self-rolling window panels. Note also that it offers an awning configuration. The tent weighs 30 lb (13.5 kg) and the floor area is 127 ft² (11.8 m²). So as you see, this is a huge space in view of its official 4-person capacity.

15. Outwell Cedarville 5A Air 5 Man Tunnel Tent

This Outwell Cedarville 5A Air 5 Man Tunnel Tent is separated into a large living room and two sleeping rooms in the inner tent. It is supported by 3 air beams instead of classic poles, and I have included it also in my list of best inflatable tents for camping. The loops create a tunnel-type structure and this tunnel impression is increased because of its large front door that can be open completely as the picture above shows. The tent is tall with a peak external height of 82.68 inches (210 cm). 

The tent comes with solid and tinted windows with panels for privacy, and you also have E-cable ports and a huge waterproof rating for protection in any weather conditions. The weight is 37.26 lb (17 kg) and the inner area is 127.6 ft² (11.85 m²).

16. Outwell Chatham 4 Person Air Tent

This Outwell Chatham 4 Person Air Tent is here because of its 3 rooms that offer a floor area of 131.3 ft² (12.2 m²). But there is also a large porch so the total protected area is around 196 ft² (18 m²). As you realize from its name, this is all for 4 people, so this is a very luxurious option.

The tent is also without solid poles, you have inflatable beams instead. This is why I have added it to my list of best air beam tents. It comes with solid tinted windows, large doors, and a darkened sleeping area. The waterproof rating is huge so you have full protection from elements. The weight is 47 lb (21.3 kg).

17. Skandika Weatherproof Tonsberg Unisex Outdoor Dome Tent

This Tonsberg tent is a 5-person tent and a very generous 3-room structure with a large living area and two sleeping units with a removable divider. It offers no less than 135.6 ft² (12.6 m²) of floor area, and you have 3 entry doors to the living area, plus 2 inner doors to the sleeping area. The tent comes with a pleasant awning design and with two poles for such a purpose.

It is very tall with 86.6 inches (220 cm) of the peak height and I have included it in my list of very tall tents. There is some confusion about the name, I use it as suggested by the manufacturer so the word dome is in the title. In fact, this is a very typical cabin-style tent with straight walls.

The tent is a bit heavy, 33.07 lb (15 kg), but this is expected from such a tall structure and its 8 steel poles and several fiberglass poles. Note that the floor is fully sewn-in and the waterproof rating is 4000 mm for the fly and 2000 mm for the rest.

18. Ferrino Meteora 5 Tent

This Meteora 5 Tent is here because of its 3 rooms. So the area is organized into a front living room and two sleeping units on the back. But it offers an area of 136.7 ft² (12.7 m²), so this is a luxurious camping option. The sleeping area is an inner tent within the shell tent.

So you have a tunnel-type structure for 3-season camping, and it is equipped with 2 doors and 2 separate windows, and with 4 roof vents. This is a very tall and pleasant tent with fiberglass poles and a great waterproof rating. It weighs 28.2 lb (12.8 kg). I have included it also in the list of best tunnel tents.

19. Robens Cabin 600 Adventure 6 Man Tunnel Tent

This Robens Cabin tent is a 3-room structure of a particular type. So you have a living room plus an inner area with two sleeping rooms separated by a zippered divider. This sleeping area is tents within the external shell tent. So you have two inner tents and you can remove one of them or both if you wish and you can have a 2-room or a single room structure.

The name may be a bit confusing because this is a true tunnel tent with three main poles creating arcades. Note that the poles are aluminum with 16 mm diameter so this is a very strong construction.

You have an impressive waterproof rating here. The fly is 5000 mm and the floor is 10000 mm, but the inner tents have their additional floors so the combined waterproof rating in this part is 13000 mm. The tent is tested for winds of up to 110 km/h, the floor is fully sewn-in, the windows are solid PVC, so this is a 4-season tent for a full-protection in any conditions. There are many vents and mesh is on the door, so you can use it also for warm-weather camping.

The tent weighs 34.4 lb (15.6 kg) and the area is 137 ft² (12.7 m²), more than enough for the declared 6-person capacity.

This Vaude Family Tent Badawi is a unique 3-room structure, an extended dome style tent with a base that is Y-shaped. So you have a living room under the dome and two side rooms for sleeping. It is officially a 4-person tent but it offers an area of 137 ft² (12.7 m²).

The tent comes with quality DAC aluminum poles. The fabric has a huge waterproof rating, so the tent will protect you anywhere in a 3-season use. The peak height is 84.6 inches (215 cm) and the tent weighs 26.8 lb (12.15 kg).

This is a 3-room structure with an area of 140 ft² (13 m²) and it is officially for 5 users. But this is also a very tall and pleasant tent with a peak height of 82.7 in (210 cm). It is supported by air beams and this is why it is also in my list of best inflatable tents. You have a double-action manual pump included.

The pleasant feeling is increased with its solid windows, and you are fully protected with its shell that has a huge waterproof rating, and its fully sewn-in floor. You also have an E-cable port. A few numbers that you might want to have, the weight is 40.9 lb (18.55 kg), and the packed size is 27.6 x 15.7 x 14.6 in (70 x 40 x 37 cm).

Ventilation is very good, it has vents and its doors are with full size zippered mesh. The poles are a combination of steel and fiberglass. The weight is 39.9 lb (18.1 kg) and the floored area is 142 ft² (13.2 m²).

This Coleman Ridgeline 6 Person Tent is a really nicely designed 3-room structure and this is why it is here in the list. As you realize from the picture, this is an extended dome type with extensions on the sides that look like tunnel-type structures.

So you have inner tents on the sides within the shell tent, each with the capacity for 3 people. The central area is with a removable linked-in type floor. The tent is suitable for 3-season camping, with a high waterproof rating and lots of space and comfort for users.

There are 2 doors and several solid windows. It allows for an awning configuration with included poles. The area is 144 ft² (13.4 m²), and the tent is very affordable.

24. Coleman Waterfall 5 Deluxe Tent

This tent is relatively small if you compare it with the giants in the list below, but this is a beautiful 3-room extended dome structure, and this is why it is here in the list. The declared capacity is 5 people, and it offers 144 ft² (13.4 m²) of the fully protected floored area.

So you have a large living room, plus an inner tent with two sleeping units. Note that these bedrooms are darkened for reduced glare, and they have a double floor structure.

They built it originally built for the EU market and it has been around for years. The waterproof rating is huge, and the floor is fully sealed. The poles are fiberglass. The tent has an e-cable port, solid windows, stand-up height, awning setup with the included awning poles, and many more great features.

The area of this tent is organized into three separate rooms and the tent offers a floor area of 145 ft² (13.5 m²), so these are good reasons for having it here in the list. This is a tunnel-shaped structure supported by three air beams and this is why it is included in my list of best inflatable tents.

The tent has 4 doors and multiple vents, and there are many storage elements for your small items. It weighs 25.6 lb (11.6 kg) so this is for places with car access.

26. OLPRO Abberley XL Breeze 4 Berth Inflatable Tent

The inner area of this tent is organized into three rooms, so this is why it is here. You have an inner tent with two sleeping units, and a large front living room. A sewn-in floor is in place, and a full fly that protect its inner area.

There are three solid windows and two large double-layer doors. The tent is supported with three inflatable beams, but it comes with a short brim pole that creates a dry entry on the side, and a pair of solid poles for the awning. Because of these features, I have included it also in my list of best inflatable tents.

The waterproof rating is huge so you have a full protection in any weather and climate. The total floored inner area is around 151 ft² (14 m²), and the peak height in the living area is 72.83 inches (185 cm).

27. Wenzel Great Basin 10 Person Tent

The Wenzel Great Basin tent comes with two removable dividers with zippers so this is a 3-room structure. This is an extended dome style tent with the main dome section and two extensions on the sides. It offers 159 ft² (14.8 m²) of floor area. You might also want to know that this is a very affordable tent that has been on the market for a number of years already. The declared capacity is 10 people.

There is one door only and the windows are on all sides. You have mesh and zippered panels on all the windows. The poles are fiberglass and the tent is with partial coverage fly. It comes also with an e-cable port, Light Reflection System, and a gear loft is also included.

This tent is best suited for summer camping, the ceiling is all mesh and this is good for a warm climate. The packed size is 27 x 10.75 x 10.75 inches (69 x 27 x 27 cm) and it weighs 28 lb 2 oz (12.8 kg).

28. Vango 5 Person Odyssey Air 500 Tent

This tent is designed for 5 people only, but it still has 3 separate units, one large sitting area and the sleeping area with 2 rooms separated by a divider.

The tent is without metal poles, you have air beams instead. So this is an innovative design with a very easy setup. You also have what they call a “lights out” design, the sleeping area is a dark rest area so glare is reduced and you can seel longer in the morning.

The waterproof rating for this tent is impressive, you have 4000 mm here.

This is a quite unique design here. The tent is instant and cabin type, but it comes with a bonus front awning. More importantly, you have an extra addition on the back, which is a separate private room that offers lots of privacy.

The main cabin part is with a removable divider, so this is what makes the tent a 3-room design. The setup is very easy, you have telescopic poles so the tent is ready in a couple of minutes.

Here you have an incredibly affordable extended dome type tent with the area organized into three rooms. Note that there are three doors here, so I have included it also in my list of tents with 3 doors.

The tent is with an interesting fly that offers a large vestibule and star gazing configurations. It is supported by fiberglass poles and the fabric is with a 1200 mm waterproof rating. The weight is 26.4 lb (12 kg), and the inner area is 160 ft² (14.9 m²).

31. Vango Woburn 500 Tent

The Woburn 500 is a 5-person tent that is organized in one large living area plus the sleeping zone which is an inner tent within the external shell and where you have two sleeping units. You have here what they call ‘lights out’ design, which is just a different phrase for the dark rest design.

The tent offers 160 ft² (14.9 m²) of the area, and this means 32 ft² (3 m²) per person. So this is plenty of space for a family camping. The tent is with PVC windows which you see in the picture, so this is a rather enclosed design suitable for a cooler environment. The waterproof rating is impressive, so you have 4000 mm for the fly and 10000 mm for the floor. 32. Ferrino Proxes 5 Advanced Family Tent

This Proxes 5 Advanced is here in the list because of its 3 rooms. So it offers 161 ft² (15 m²) of fully protected space and it can accommodate far more. Space is organized as follows. The sleeping area on the back is a tent within the tent, and here you have a removable divider inside. The front part is a large living room.

There are 3 doors in total, two are in the living room and visible in the picture, and one on the rear narrow side behind the sleeping area. There are also two inner doors both with panels and mesh.

The poles are fiberglass. The waterproof rating is very good; the shell tent is 2000 mm for the fly and 10000 mm for the floor, and the inner tent has its additional floor with a 2500 mm rating. Please follow the link to read more.

33. Outwell Nevada 5 Man Privilege Tent

Obviously, the Nevada 5 person tent is here because of its 3-room design. But this is a tent packed with some user-friendly features. It offers 15.16 m² (163.2 ft²) of the fully protected area, and this means 3 m² (32.6 ft²) per person if the tent is used by 5 people. But this is a fully floored construction with a sewn-in and sealed floor, so several more people can sleep in its large living room if necessary.

This is a tunnel-shape design with three main fiberglass poles creating arches and you have tinted PVC windows. There is no mesh here, except on the three doors that are double layer type with mesh and with waterproof panels. So this is a construction that keeps the warmth and it is suitable for cold weather camping.

34. Ferrino Proxes 6 Family Tent

This Proxes 6 person tent is here in the list because of its three rooms. So you have a large front living room and the sleeping area which is a tent within the tent with two rooms with a removable divider.

This is a 3-season tent with a waterproof rating of 2000 mm for the shell and 2500 mm for the inner tent, plus more than 10000 mm for the shell floor that is fully sealed. So protection from groundwater is at its best. The poles are fiberglass and you have them 3 all the same size for easy pitching.

The tent has 3 external doors and one window, plus the same number of inner doors. You have 4 vents for ventilation. The tent’s area is 167 ft² (15.5 m²) and it weighs 32 lb (14.5 kg). Please follow the link for more.

There are 3 rooms here and the tent offers a huge floored area of 168 ft² (15.6 m²), plus the porch area of 33 ft² (3.1 m²). This is an impressive tent built in a typical tunnel-shape, but it is with inflatable beams instead of solid poles. Its peak height is 84.6 inches (215 cm).

 Its high waterproof rating is a guarantee for full protection. It has solid windows and there are also plenty of storage pouches in every room. The weight is 62.4 lb (28.3 kg), and the packed size is 33.5 x 22.8 x 19.3 inches (85 x 58 x 49 cm).

36. Coleman 8 Person Red Canyon Tent

This is an extended-dome type tent with an impressive floor size of 170 sq ft (15.6 m²), yet it is designed for 8 people so you have almost 2 square meters per person.

Because of the extensions on the two sides, the tent is not freestanding, so you have to stake it down properly to be fully functional. The tent packs down to 25.6 x 11 x 10.2 inches (65 x 28 x 26 cm) so you can transport it even on a motorbike.

There is only one door here, and it is partly protected by the fly so the mesh window on the door can be kept open even when it is raining. There is a ventilation opening close to the floor, and the ceiling is a mesh protected by the fly, so you have good enough air circulation.

This Ozark Trail 12-Person Cabin Tent with Screen Porch is included in this list because of its two floored rooms plus a screen room. But note that the screen room is not floored, it provides protection from flying insects. It is with a roof so you can sit in the shade and use the area for cooking as well, this is why I think it deserves to be included in this list.

This is a tall construction with a peak height of 90 inches (229 cm). This is why it is added also to my list of very tall tents for camping.

All in all, the tent is a pleasant structure with 6 windows, 2 doors, and an E-cable port. The poles are a combination of steel and fiberglass, and this is a freestanding construction. It weighs 44 lb (20 kg) and the floor area is 168 ft² (15.6 m²).

38. Ozark Trail 12-Person 3-Room Instant Cabin Tent with Screen Room

The Ozark Trail 12 is a 3-room structure and this is why it is here in the list. One of the rooms is a screen room and I have included it in my list of tents with screen room. Note that the screen room is also fully protected, with the sealed floor and panels on all sides, it just gives more comfort than the other two rooms.

The total area is 168 ft² (15.6 m²) and the declared capacity is 12 people. The tent is with instant setup and in spite of its size, you can raise it in 2 minutes only. You have the design with the poles pre-attached to the tent and they are telescopic so the setup is easy. The packed size is 50 x 12 x 12 inches (127 x 30 x 30 cm).

The poles are steel and the peak height is 76 inches (193 cm). The fly is minimal, and also the waterproof rating is only 600 mm. So this tent is perfect for warm weather summer camping in an environment without much rain and wind. Please follow the link for more.

39. Coleman Mosedale 5 Family 5 Person Tent

The area of this tent is organized into 3 rooms, with an inner tent within the shell. The bedrooms are in the inner tent and these are dark rest bedrooms that block 99% of daylight.

This tent is officially for 5 people, but it offers 170 ft² (15.7 m²), so if necessary, it can accommodate 5 people more in its living room which is also fully protected.

It is nicely ventilated and suitable for at least 3 seasons. The fabric is with a very high waterproof rating, the windows are solid, and the poles are fiberglass. The weight is 37.9 lb (17.2 kg).

40. Coleman Tent Pinto Mountain 5 Plus

This Coleman Tent Pinto Mountain 5 Plus offers 170 ft² (15.8 m²) of the floor area in its 3 rooms, so imagine how much comfort this tent offers in view of its official capacity that is only 5 people. Clearly, it can accommodate far more people if necessary.

Coleman is also very known for its dark-rest tents and this is one of its champions They claim that it blocks up to 99% of the daylight. I have included it to my list of best dark rest tents.

As you see from the picture this is a tunnel-type pleasant structure with 2 doors that are double-layer with mesh and panels. It has a huge waterproof rating, solid windows, floor and roof vents, and much more. The tent weighs 37 lb (16.8 kg).

41. NTK LARAMI GT Tent

This Larami GT tent is here because of its three rooms. So this is an extended dome type tent with a central dome and two extensions supported by extra poles. You have two removable dividers that create its rooms. It offers 180 ft² (16.2 m²) of the fully covered area and this is a very tall structure with 210 cm peak height.

The poles are fiberglass and the picture shows you that the fly is almost full coverage type, only the area around the door is without the fly. But the door is waterproof so the tent offers full protection. The waterproof rating is great 2500 mm and the floor is a thick fully waterproof polyethylene.

The door is designed with a mesh window so you can still have some view around with such a massive fly. Note that you also have an E-cable port in the design.

42. Ozark Trail 10 Person Tent 3 Rooms 20 x 10

This Ozark Trail 10 Person Tent 3 Rooms 20 x 10 is a large, tall, pleasant tent. This means that its dimensions are 20 x 10 ft (610 x 305 cm), and its area is 175.5 ft² (16.3 m²). The center height is 78 inches (198 cm).

For such a size, it is lightweight, it weighs only 27.6 lb (12.5 kg). You have 3 rooms and this is why it is here, there are also 3 doors and 3 windows. An E-cable port is available as well. The tent is very affordable.

43. Core 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent

This is an instant tent, so the frame is pre-attached to the tent and all you have to do is to unfold and extend its legs. The tent is also a cabin type as you realize from the picture. More about instant cabin tents you can see in my separate text.

The tent comes with a huge floor area of 180 square feet (16.7 m²) and its peak height is 80 inches (203 cm). As you realize from the picture, huge windows are on all sides and you have a feeling of being at home. There are two doors, on the opposite sides. It comes with a gear loft, and with an electric cable port.

This is a freestanding structure so you can pitch it on any terrain, but it is so boxy and tall so it is best to stake it down whenever possible. The tent is with large vents close to the floor, so ait circulation is guaranteed. All the windows are with waterproof panels for protection and for privacy. The 2 dividers are included so you can create 3 separate rooms inside.

The Ozark Trail 18″ x 10′ Instant Cabin Tent with Integrated Led Light is here because of its three rooms. But the tent has plenty of useful features.

As you realize from the name, it has integrated lights. The awning shown in the picture is supported by 2 poles that are included. The tent is officially for 12 people, and for this it offers 3 rooms and an area of 180 ft² (16.7 m²).

You have 2 doors and 6 separate windows. The tent is very tall and pleasant with its 80 inches (203 cm) peak height. The weight is 47.87 lb (21.7 kg), and its overall dimensions are 18 x 10 ft (549 x 305 cm).

45. Ozark Trail Hazel Creek 12 Person Cabin Tent

This Hazel Creek 12 is here because of its 3 rooms, but it is much more than that. You have an area of 180 ft² (16.7 m²) plus 5 mesh windows, an E-cable port, and LED lights that work with 6 AAA batteries. So it is included in my list with lighted tents.

The picture above shows the tent without the fly so you can see its cabin-style framed construction. The poles are steel. Note also that it has two cabinets with their own support poles, they are floored and sealed, and equipped with mesh shelves. So I have included it in my list of tents with cabinets. 46. Pacific Pass Camping Tent 8 Person Family Dome Tent

This Pacific Pass Camping Tent 8 Person Family Dome Tent is here because of its 3 rooms created by two removable dividers. This is an extended-dome type tent most suitable for summer camping.

With a weight of 23.32 lb (10.6 kg), it could be described as ultralight, and it is also ultra-packable. Above all, it is incredibly affordable. You have one door, 3 windows, an E-cable port, a gear loft, and many storage pockets. This is a large tent with a total area of 180 ft² (16.7 m²).

47. Eurohike Rydal 600 Family Tent

This is yet another tent from Eurohike and yet another from their Rydal series. This is a nicely built 3-room tent which offers 181 ft² (16.8 m²) for 6 people. So as you realize, this is a luxurious camping option but really budget-friendly because you pay only around $186 (as of the moment of writing this text).

There are two large doors here and two PVC windows, no less than 5 vents are available and around 18 storage pockets at several places in the three rooms. The floor is fully sewn-in and the sleeping rooms have their additional bathtub style floor. The waterproof rating is 2000 mm. Note also that this is a dark rest design. 48. Zempire Aero TL PRO Series Tent

This tent has 3 separate rooms plus a fully protected but floorless porch, so it can be described also as a tent with 4 rooms. The inner floored area is 187.2 ft² (17.4 m²) and the porch adds 54.9 ft² (5.1 m²). The bedrooms are dark rest type.

It is very tall with its 89 inches (225 cm) peak height. It is supported by air beams, so I have added it to my list of best inflatable tents. The tent is also incredibly ventilated, with solid tinted and mesh windows combined, and with many doors.

You can create an awning with solid poles that are included. The fabric is with a very high waterproof rating. The weight is 70.5 lb (32 kg).

49. Vango 6 Person Odyssey Air 600 Tent

Th1s tent has a large sitting area plus a sleeping zone which is a tent within the tent, and this area is a cocoon with a divider, so this is what makes it a 3-room tent. The total floor area is huge so this is a luxurious option for family camping in any weather conditions in a 3-season use.

The tent is more suitable for a cooler environment because you have no mesh here, even the windows are solid PVC material. The inner tent design is such that it belongs also to the group of dark rest tents.

50. Ozark Trail 16 x 16-Feet 12-Person 3 Room Instant Cabin Tent

This is a huge structure that needs a 16 x 16 feet ground area to set it up. But it may be overlooked that this is not the actual sleeping area. In fact, the tent is L-shaped, so you have three separate cabins of the same size and they provide around 192 square feet (17.8 m²).

But you also have an awning area (see the picture) roughly the size of one of the cabins, and this altogether makes it 16 x 16 ft as the name of the tent suggests. This front awning is a great place for relaxing under the shade and it adds lots of value and livability to this tent. This area is very large, roughly 8 x 8 ft (2.4 x 2.4 m²) and covered, and the stuff stored there will be partly protected from the rain.

So this is yet another instant tent here in the list and it is also a cabin style tent. It may sound unbelievable but this tent can be pitched in under 2 minutes. This is because of the pre-attached poles, so just unfold and extend the leg poles.

The tent is obviously freestanding, but stakes are included, and don’t miss to use them, such a huge and 208 cm tall structure is not the best thing in a strong wind.

The packed size is not so great, you have 52.4 x 14.2 x 12.6 inches here (133 x 36 x 32 cm), and you need a car for transportation. But this is normal for instant tents because of their telescopic legs and preassembled frame which folds up creating such a bundle.

You have an electric cord port and the tent is also with ground vents that fit air conditioner, this is good to have regardless if you have electricity in the camp or not. The rain fly and carry bag are included of course.

This great tent offers a total covered area of 230 ft² (21.4 m²) and this includes the porch as well, while the inner area is 192 ft² (17.8 m²). So you have 32 ft² (3 m²) per person in the inner area divided into three separate units.

The tent is with many great features and those include 2 external doors and 2 internal doors, 5 windows, a porch, and an awning configuration, see the picture.

The tent is with a tent within the tent, and the inner fabric is from a darker material so it belongs to the group of the dark rest tents.

52. Bushnell Shield Series 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent 18 x 11 ft

This Bushnell Shield Series 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent 18 x 11 is here because of its three rooms. This is the largest from their Shield series which also includes a 6-person tent and a 9-person tent, all built differently, note that all of them ar6 instant setup tents. The area which it provides is 198 ft² (18.4 m²) so this is a large construction.

This is a cabin type tent with 8 large windows, an awning, and multiple storage features. Note also that it is tall, with 80 inches (203 cm) peak height. The tent is best suited for summer camping without much rain and wind.

53. Bushnell Sport Series 12 Person Cabin Tent 20 x 10

This tent comes with two removable dividers that create 3 separate rooms. Each of them has its own door. There are 7 windows in total and the peak height is 84 inches (213 cm). So this is a very pleasant family camping tent built in the cabin-style.

Note also that the area is very large, it offers 200 ft² (18.6 m²) of the area and this is large enough to be added also to my list of extra large family camping tents. The declared capacity is 12 people.

With this tent you also have an E-cable port, a large gear organizer, a floor vent, and a few wall pockets. The weight is 48 lb (21.8 kg). Please follow the link for more.

54. Ozark Trail 20 x 10 Dark Rest Instant Cabin Tent

This Ozark Trail 12 tent is with a declared capacity of 12 people, and its floor area is 200 square feet (18.6 m²). It incorporates several great features that you see already in its name. Obviously, the reason for being here in the list is its 3 rooms created with two removable dividers. But it has much more.

This tent is in the group of dark rest tents, and this implies a dark material used in its construction, plus the dark panels which are zippered underneath the ceiling mesh. With these panels, you can regulate the amount of light in the tent. But you also see in the picture that it comes with skylights on the fly.

Yet another great feature is its instant setup; two people can put it up in 2 minutes. This is due to the frame which is pre-attached to the tent body in the factory. So you just unfold the tent and extend its telescopic legs. Please read more in my detailed review.

55. Skandika Gotland Group or Family Tunnel Tent 5 Person

The area of this Skandika Gotland Group or Family Tunnel Tent 5 Person is organized in three rooms and this is why it is here. But see the numbers, it offers 201 ft² (18.68 m²) and this is officially for 5 people only. You realize from the picture above that this is a tunnel-shaped tent, and it is in my list of the best tunnel tents. There are 3 doors and 6 windows and these are 2-layer structures with panels for privacy and protection.

The tent is with a huge waterproof rating for full protection in a 3-season use. There are an E-cable port and storage pouches on the inner walls. The weight is 40.8 lb (18.5 kg), and the poles are fiberglass.

56. Hi-Gear Hampton 6 Nightfall Family Tent

The 3 rooms of this tent include two bedrooms that are in the inner tent, and a large living room. There is also a porch visible in the picture. So the total inner area is 202 ft² (18.8 m²) and the porch adds 41 ft² (3.8 m²). The bedrooms are dark rest type and the tent is also in my list of best dark rest tents.

You have large panoramic solid windows and it is also very tall. There are two doors, one under the porch and one on the side. The tent is nicely ventilated, and you also have an E-cable port. The weight is 56.4 lb (25.6 kg) and the overall dimensions are 19.5 x 12.47 ft (595 x 380 cm).

57. Tahoe Gear Ozark 3-Season 16 Person Large Family Cabin Tent

This Tahoe Gear Ozark tent is a cabin style and freestanding structure, but you should not miss to stake it down. It offers a floor area of 204 ft² (19 m²). When you compare it with the Texsport tent above, you realize that the declared 16 people capacity implies that there is not much room left if you have them all sleeping on the floor. So I would downgrade its capacity quite dramatically, to a maximum of 7-8 people.

The floor plan includes a very large main room which is a sort of sitting area with huge windows and 2 large doors, and the inner area is with a removable divider so you can create two additional smaller rooms. This total inner area is nearly the same surface as the front room.

Note that the whole area is floored so there is no difference between the rooms. The windows are all with mesh and with panels for protection. When you see this tent from inside you have a really great feeling of space and comfort.

The tent body is a durable 1200 mm polyester and the same material is also in the fly, while the floor is polyethylene. So these are good materials and a very reasonable waterproof rating.

58. Coleman Valdes Deluxe 4 XL Air BlackOut Bedroom Family Tent

This is a 4-person tent, and its inner floored area includes two sleeping units and a large living room. The sleeping rooms are a tent within the tent, and this is a dark rest design. This is why it is included in my list if best dark rest tents.

It offers 215 ft² (20 m²) of the inner floored area, plus a fully closable porch with extra 49.5 ft² (4.6 m²). The tent is fully closable but with numerous vents. You have all solid windows, and with inner shatters for privacy.

It is supported with air beams, and for this you have a manual pump included. So in spite of it huge size, one person can set it up easily. This is why it is also in my list of best inflatable tents. 

The tent weighs 67 lb (30.4 kg), and its peak height is 84.6 inches (215 cm). The packed size is 30.7 x 22.8 x 18.9 inches (78 x 58 x 48 cm).

59. Outwell Hartsdale 6PA Prime Air 6 Man 3 Room Inflatable Tunnel Tent

The area of this tent is organized into three rooms and the total floored space is 220.3 ft² (20.46 m²), but from the picture above you realize that it also has a porch that adds 37.7 ft² (3.5 m²) of the covered area. Note that its official capacity is 6 people, so imagine how much space you have per person.

The inner rooms are built from a dark material so it belongs to the group of dark-rest tents. This is also an inflatable tent, with air beams instead of classic poles, and this is why it is included in my list of best inflatable tents.

You have 2 external doors, and the inner doors are with magnetic closure. The tent is equipped with solid tinted windows. It weighs 63.3 lb (28.7 kg) and its overall dimensions are 18.5 x 17.4 ft (565 x 530 cm).

60. Vango IRIS 600 XL Tent

This is an impressive tent with its 226 ft² (21 m²) of floor area that is organized in 3 units which include a huge living room and two sleeping rooms each for 3 people. So the tent is with the declared capacity of 6 people and it offers enough area to accommodate twice as many users.

You have two entry doors and 7 solid PVC windows. The waterproof rating of 4000 mm is such that you will definitely have full protection in a 3-season use. The floor is fully sewn in, so this is a rather enclosed space and very suitable for a cooler environment. Note also that the sleeping zone is what they call the lights out design, so the daylight is considerably reduced. Please read more in my full review.

61. Ozark Trail Hazel Creek 16 Person Family Cabin Tent

This tent has a floored area of around 230 ft² (21.4 m²), and this space is organized in three rooms, and each of them has its own door. The base is T-shaped and total dimensions are 22 x 16 ft (670 x 488 cm). I have included it also in my list of extra large family camping tents.

The tent has 9 large windows, many storage pouches, a gear loft, 3 E-cable ports, and a lot more. The packed size is excellent, the tent reduces to 28 x 12 x 12 inches (71 x 30 x 30 cm) only. The weight is 43.7 lb (19.8 kg).

62. Texsport Highland 8 Family Camping Cabin Tent

This is a huge tent for the declared 8 people capacity. So the floor dimensions are roughly 16 x 15 feet (4.9 x 4.6 m) and you have 240 ft² (22.3 m²) of the floor area here.

This tent includes a large sitting area with huge screen rooms and an inner area is with a removable divider. This creates two inner rooms that can accommodate 2 people each, and 4 people can sleep on the floor in the sitting screened room. Clearly, this tent provides plenty of space for 8 people sleeping on the floor.

The floor is ripstop polyethylene and the walls and the rain fly are a heavy-duty PU coated taffeta. The poles are steel and fiberglass on the roof. The tent is cabin-type so the main steel poles are straight and the peak height is 86 in (218 cm). It is freestanding as well. The packed size is not so bad, but the tent is heavy, no less than 21 kg.

63. Wenzel Mammoth 16-Person Family Dome Camping Tent

This tent is here because of its three rooms, and it offers 248 ft² (23 m²) of the inner area. I have included it also in my list of extra large family camping tents. It is perfect for large families and also for three couples.

This is a quite unusual extended dome tent, with extensions on three sides, and it has features of a tunnel tent as well. Each of the rooms is big enough to accommodate a queen-size bed. The waterproof rating is not so impressive, only 600 mm, so this is a tent for summer camping in quiet weather conditions.

The packed size is excellent, 29 x 11.5 x 11.5 in (74 x 29 x 29 cm), and the weight is not bad at all when you compare it with its main competitors, it weighs 37.5 lb (17 kg). Note that it is incredibly affordable. Please follow the link to read more.

64. Ozark Trail 15 person instant tent

This huge tent comes with sewn-in dividers between the rooms so this is a design that offers the maximum privacy for a tent. It is an instant tent, cabin type as you see from the picture, and it is freestanding. It is designed for 15 people sleeping on the floor, and this is indeed so because it offers 1.55 m² per person and it can definitely accommodate this number of users. 65. Crua Loj 6 Person Thermo Insulated Waterproof Family Tent

This tent is presented in detail in my separate review, and it has so many features that giving just a few here would be a pity. But I still give the most important of them below. As you realize, this is the heaviest, the bulkiest, the priciest, the most durable, and the largest of all tents in the list.

This is the only tent with insulation, and it is hard to find any tent on the market, in any category, which would be even a remote match for this system. So this is a 4-season tent in the true sense, it has an inner cocoon which you would use in winter conditions; in the summertime, you would use only the waterproof tent shell.

This Ozark Trail Hazel Creek 18-Person Cabin Tent with 3 Covered Entrances is with a huge area of 255 ft² (23.7 m²), organized into three separate rooms. I have included it also on my list of extra large family camping tents.

The peak height is 86 inches (218 cm) so it is on my list of very tall tents. This is a gigantic and tall tent with 4 doors and 3 of them are protected by brims, there are 4 separate windows, 3 E-cable ports, and lots more. The weight is 48.3 lb (22 kg) and you will want to know that it is very affordable.

How to choose a 3-room tent 

So this was my list of best 3 room family camping tents. All these tents are very popular and currently available on the market. But some new great models may appear during the year and they will be added here for sure. So stay tuned, bookmark this page, and do come back again to check.

The issue of capacity

Now, how to choose? I would stress first the following which holds for most of the 3 room tents for camping given here: ignore the declared capacity. In most cases, it simply makes no sense.

The same holds for the Tahoe Gear Ozark 16 tent which is only 1 square meter larger than the Texsport 8 tent. Yet the former is apparently for 16 people while the latter is a luxurious option for 8 users.

The point is, look at the actual floor area, plus some storage area if it is available (like a porch, an awning, or a vestibule). This will tell you how much space you really have per user.

Take as an example the Core 12 person tent above. It has enough space for 12 people to sleep on the floor. But where are they going to put their camping stuff, boots, and shoes, etc? So it is best to downgrade this tent to 8 people or even less.

But there are positive examples as well. The Crua Loj 6 tent has far more space than needed for the declared 6-people capacity. In fact, it can easily accommodate 12 people, and you have a porch plus. The same holds for the Vango Capri 6 tent and the Vango Odyssey tent. See the Moose 6 tent with lots of space.

The issue of setup time

If you are on a cross-country tour with your friends or family members, you will probably be pitching the tent every evening. So you will need something that is easy to set up. Clearly, your choice should be some of the instant tents above, like the Core 12, Ozark 15, or the Ozark Trail 16 x 16. But this will depend on the number of users, and also it may be of importance that the former is a more compact structure that needs less ground area.

But if you are going to stay a longer time in the same place, then take the largest possible options, with porch or awning configurations. You have a few such options above.

Is the price an issue

There are big differences in the prices here, so it makes sense of choosing carefully. But in general, those are really affordable tents except the Crua Loj tent. The true champion is the Ozark Trail 10. It is only $105 at the moment of writing this text, and it is 22 times cheaper than the Crua Loj 6 tent.

Are they 3 seasons tents or not

This I already pointed out above, so here just to add the following. If you want a true 3-season tent or a 3-season-plus tent, either of the following applies:

• The Crua Loj 6 tent is a true 4-season tent, you can use it anywhere, literally. So it is very much suitable for 3-season use as well. But it costs a lot.
• The Vango Capri 600XL is a very reliable 3-season tent, with an impressive waterproof rating, so you can definitely rely on it. The same is with the Vango Odyssey 600 tent, the Moose 6 tent, and Vango Odyssey 500 tent, and a few more.
• But most of them are for summer camping.
